Chapter 700: Chapter 451 Ancestral Will!_1
Brother Bao’s mind was entangled in a frenzy over "who exactly did I see?"Seeing Brother Bao’s unusual reaction, everyone around couldn’t help but wonder, especially when he inquired about Feng Yi in such an agitated manner at a time like this.
"Brother Bao, Brother Bao? Does Feng Yi have something to do with this?" someone next to him asked.
Only after being called twice did Brother Bao slightly snap back to reality and handed back the phone, though his voice remained unsteady,
"No, just worried about Feng Yi, he... as long as he’s fine, don’t disturb him anymore!"
The psychological impact that shook his worldview was far greater than that of the explosion itself!
Brother Bao slowly looked around the noisy surroundings, his gaze settling on the old building where the alley was located.
The old building in his memories had now become a pile of rubble, burying many memories and emotions with it.
However, at this moment, Brother Bao wasn’t filled with nostalgic emotions.
He looked at the location where the underground bar used to be, at the place that had collapsed due to the explosion, his gaze deep and somber.
The surrounding buildings were damaged to varying degrees, but fortunately, no unrelated personnel were hurt.
His mind seemed full of thoughts, yet at the same time, it felt blank.
His familiar subordinates could clearly see that Brother Bao was really out of sorts!
Worried that the explosion had caused him other injuries, they didn’t dare delay, promptly sending Brother Bao and a few other injured personnel to the hospital.
During the transport to the hospital, Brother Bao was lucid, occasionally discussing plans for handling the aftermath. But aside from that, he would still zone out, appearing absentminded, reacting a beat too slowly.
His subordinates were particularly worried about Brother Bao’s ominous mental state.
Could it be that he had suffered damage to his brain nerves?
Since the incident, Brother Bao remained in a state of confusion and angst, gripping the shirt over his chest tightly, sometimes briefly letting go for treatment, but then quickly clutching it again.
His subordinates also worried that he had sustained serious internal injuries.
It wasn’t until they reached the hospital and saw the results of the examination that they relaxed a bit.
But they only felt slightly relieved, as Brother Bao’s condition hadn’t much improved.
While the physical injuries were not serious, they were concerned that Brother Bao couldn’t get over the betrayal by an old friend, mentally.
Didn’t the movies always say that psychological wounds are the most painful?
Even though they rationalized that Brother Bao’s psychological resilience shouldn’t be this weak, the fact was, Brother Bao was still not himself!
Did this indicate that the incident was too much of a blow for him?
Perhaps at times like this, family members are needed for comfort?
When Brother Bao called his family to assure them of his safety, he was lucid, and though still somewhat emotional, his speech wasn’t gloomy.
After the call, Brother Bao still clutched at the shirt on his chest.
At this time, his subordinates realized that what Brother Bao was actually holding onto was the gold chain pendant he wore, which he hadn’t taken off.
"Brother Bao, you need to rest," a subordinate said softly.
Maybe a good sleep would calm him down. This state was too alarming.
However, Brother Bao didn’t want to sleep; he was very agitated, thinking about many things.
But the subordinate’s reminder made sense; he indeed wasn’t in a state to calmly analyze the situation. Having arranged affairs, Uncle Bao lay on the hospital bed and closed his eyes.
As the medication took effect, he finally fell asleep.
And he slept soundly.
He had many dreams. About his childhood, about the present, about old friends, and about the night’s events.
And that scene which had caused him such a great psychological shock—
Everything seemed to revert back to the underground bar in the old building.
All around was darkness.
The sunken floor, twisted steel, fallen debris,
the fleeting sparks of electrical equipment.
And then, that indistinct figure in the gloom.
It kept cycling over and over.
He kept looking at that figure in the dim light.
And it seemed more and more...
that the figure was very much like Feng Yi!
Just like Feng Yi!
Brother Bao’s eyes snapped open.
The curtains in the hospital room were drawn, the light not too blinding, but looking at the time, it was already daytime.
After waking up, Brother Bao remained in the posture he woke in, quietly reminiscing the scene that kept recurring in his dreams.
"It really looked like Feng Yi... it really happened..."
he murmured.
The subordinate watching by his side didn’t catch what he said, but the sound alerted them that Brother Bao was awake.
After a sleep, Brother Bao appeared much calmer than the day before.
This reassured his subordinates even more.
Brother Bao asked about what had happened while he was asleep.
His subordinate reported everything one by one.
"The police have been here..."
"Hmm."
No need to say more; they all knew how to handle it. They’d dealt with the N City police for more than a day or two.
"Feng Yi has been here too..."
Upon hearing about Feng Yi, Brother Bao nearly leapt off the hospital bed.
"He was here? Where is he now?"
"Brother Bao, you were sleeping, he asked about your condition and stayed for a while before leaving."
"Where is he now?"
"At this time, he should have returned to the hotel. Brother Bao, want to contact him again?"
"...Never mind, I’ll call him later."
Brother Bao felt he needed some mental preparation; otherwise, he didn’t know what to say.
He inquired about others, including the injured subordinates.
Aside from him and Ryan who had gone into the building, those guarding the entrance of the alley were also affected.
"They’re all okay, K was standing at another end of the alley, closer inside. He couldn’t get out immediately during the explosion. He said it seemed like someone, in a daze, had yanked him aside, thinking a known brother had rescued him. But after asking around, no one matched up; it must have been some other person nearby who saved him."
