Chapter 683: Chapter 441: Severe Convective Weather Warning_2
I’m a different breed of cool!
Feng Yi had returned the director’s call, intending to attend the exchange meeting. However, his plan differed from what the director had expected.
From the beginning, his goal was the high-level database of the United Insurance Bureau. He didn’t care much for academic influence. The United Insurance Bureau valued capability and comprehensive evaluation; papers were not decisive.
Feng Yi would deepen his knowledge, but that would not occupy his main focus.
Attending an exchange meeting wouldn’t take much time, and even though he felt somewhat less confident in front of these formidable researchers, the supplementary materials he had been writing lately were not for nothing!
Feng Yi took a long, relaxed breath.
He suddenly felt like a real "expert," slowly being accepted by the true academic circles.
His background as an outsider seemed to have been a distant memory that nobody mentioned anymore.
Yeah, before delving into the tropical rainforest, he would first thoroughly research the legacy left by his ancestors!
In the residence, everyone was preparing for the trip.
When Feng Yi decided to buy the black diamond, he had determined to visit the island, and preparations commenced immediately upon his return.
The travel party was arranged, with Yi staying behind to attend to some matters at home. Others, including the butler, would accompany Feng Yi on this trip.
Feng Yi was concerned about the butler’s age and whether he could handle the back-and-forth travel. Moreover, many buildings on the island had been demolished, and the lodging conditions were far from what they used to be. The elderly man, meticulous in every aspect, might not adapt well.
But the butler insisted on seeing for himself.
He wanted to ensure that the construction team had not misinterpreted or distorted his design plans for the island.
Returning after some time to his first purchased island, Feng Yi was in high spirits.
Although the infrastructure was still under development, he felt relaxed and free, as if even the air was imbued with freedom.
The island was tidied up neatly, and a significant sum had been spent to rent a transport plane to remove all the construction waste.
The construction team had just finished the first phase of work. Feng Yi had given the workers a few days off, which he used to "archaeologically" explore the island.
With the construction team gone, only Xin was waiting at the airport on the island.
Xin’s aversion to others had eased slightly, as he now had clear goals and directions for effort. He was willing to try interacting with more people to soften his approach to communication.
During Feng Chi’s recording on the island, as the highest authority there, Xin had to interact with the production crew.
From Feng Chi, Feng Yi learned the crew’s impression of Xin: a bit aloof but decent and responsible.
Compared to before, Xin had significantly improved his social anxiety. It was evident that Xin had been working hard and adapting quickly during this period.
His eye contact had increased, and when speaking, he would look at the person instead of avoiding their gaze. His Mandarin had become more fluent too.
He was now able to engage in normal human interactions more naturally.
"You’ve done well!" Feng Yi said to Xin with a smile.
In front of Feng Yi, Xin’s expression was completely different than when facing others; it wasn’t that stiff formality, but rather a bit of excitement, and he spoke faster: "This is what I should do! The accommodation has been arranged, but it’s rudimentary."
"As long as it’s livable, that’s fine. Oh, and take extra care of the butler. Prepare some additional things later. I’m going to check over there, and you go greet your colleagues. We have a new colleague this time."
Feng Yi went to inspect the temporary accommodation, while Xin approached the other colleagues with less vibrancy than before, but he was still quite cordial.
The new employee, Ren, observed Xin, who was said to be a bit socially anxious.
He did indeed appear robust, but in a way that was different from Bing’s robustness, accurately fitting the description of a "bronze steak" that Bing had mentioned.
Ren took the initiative to approach, mimicking Feng Yi’s tone of voice, expressions, rhythm of steps, micro facial expressions, and the angle at which the corners of his mouth lifted. The smile in his eyes seemed finely adjusted:
"Hello."
Xin’s demeanor visibly cooled, the tone stiff: "Hello."
Ren’s eyebrows lifted slightly as he said, "I’m the new guy; you can call me A’ting. I’m wondering, do you see any similarities between me and the boss in your eyes?"
Without hesitation, Xin replied, "None."
Ren: "Not even a little? My tone? My expressions? My presence?"
Xin: "Nothing."
Ren: "Why? I think I’ve mimicked him quite well! Is it the hairstyle that breaks the immersion for you?"
Xin: "Different species."
After pondering for a moment, Ren had an epiphany: "Indeed, different species. In front of someone in the know, there’s no point in trying to cross species. Even if a cat imitates a dog’s bark perfectly, it’s still a cat."
Xin’s expression remained stiff.
Ren: "Show some reaction, come on. What I’m saying is what you mean, right?"
Xin tightened his face, "No! I didn’t say the boss is a dog!"
His tone was exceptionally firm.
"I didn’t either..."
Ren noticed something was amiss and, seeing Xin’s gaze sweep behind him, tensed up and slowly turned around.
He saw the butler’s eyes, smiling faintly.
Ren: "..."
When did you get here?!
Weren’t you following the boss to check out the living quarters?!
Ren was called over by the amiable-faced butler for a talk.
Xin wiped the sweat from his forehead and quickly went to find Feng Yi. Indeed, he preferred communicating with the boss.
After Feng Yi had seen the temporary living place, he strolled around the island with Xin, listening to what had happened on the island during this time.
Only when facing Feng Yi did Xin’s ability to express himself become much stronger than at other times.
Feng Yi learned the situation from the island manager, and overall, everything was proceeding according to plan and was quite smooth.
After discussing these things, Xin, with a confused look, said, "I don’t know if it’s because the island has been too active recently, the variety show crew rented the place and finished filming, and right after that, the construction team started to rebuild. Until now, even though we’ve been very careful to protect the environment but..."
Xin looked towards the nearby beach.
"Although the surrounding seawater is still very clean, I always feel that compared to when I first arrived here, the seawater lacks a bit of vitality."
This discovery had been pressing on Xin, worried that he was not doing his job well.
However, the tests for pollution in the seawater didn’t show anything.
Others might doubt their own observation and assume it was an illusion.
But Xin trusted his own findings.
Was it caused by external factors or some other reason that couldn’t be explained by common sense?
Now that the Island Master had returned, he mentioned this discovery.
"Vitality?" Feng Yi looked towards the sea.
There were no other abnormalities.
He quickly realized that what Xin was referring to must be the slight active factors contained in the seawater, right?
Feng Yi thought about the potential anomalies that the study of the black diamond might cause that evening. According to his past experience, the energy dissipation accompanied by active factors might once again fill the seawater with vitality.
"Don’t worry, it’s not a problem with your work. Take another look tomorrow."
Although he hadn’t analyzed the black diamond yet, Feng Yi knew through instinct what might happen.
Thus, during dinner with everyone, Feng Yi told the group:
"Tonight, make sure to close your doors and windows when you sleep, and don’t go outside."
Everyone looked at Feng Yi.
Feng Yi: "Don’t be nervous, nothing else, just that there might be strong convective weather tonight, reminding everyone to be careful."
Jia and the others nodded adeptly, "Alright, we’ll go outside later to see if there’s anything that needs to be brought into the storeroom."
New employee Ren, who was not very familiar with the boss’s other side, ate in silence.
"Strong Convective Weather"
After dinner, when Ren returned to his room, he looked at the sky outside.
Although he was no expert in meteorology, he had studied many related subjects in the past.
The sky just didn’t seem like it was about to experience strong convection anytime soon.
The seawater, set against the sunset, bore the calm romance that belongs to the sea.
The last glint of the sunset sank into the horizon, and employees stopped lingering outside, staying in their rooms obediently.
Ren packed his things and went to the window to feel the air outside.
He didn’t feel anything special.
He closed the window, but unlike Jia and the others, he didn’t put on headphones.
As a professional stunt double, he had to observe everything quietly!
