Chapter 617: Chapter 404: Snake God_2

Feng Yi and the others first prepared supplies, food and drink could be bought from locals, but other things had to be prepared themselves.

Once the supplies were ready, everyone went out for a meal together and slept for a while in Cai Bing’s store before setting off.

Feng Yi, accompanied by Jia and Ding, with Feng Shou on his own and plus Cai Bing, a group of five people, first drove to one place, then transferred to a plane flying to their destination.

When flying to Wula Village, because the plane wasn’t flying very high, Feng Yi could see the vast green forests below.

However, as they passed some areas, he could also see patches of orderly plantations below.

"So many forests have been turned into plantations, it’s only because the regulations got stricter later that the planting area didn’t expand," Cai Bing said.

Continuing forward, as they got closer to their destination, the sight reached a point where plantations could no longer be seen.

"Oh, we’re almost there!" Cai Bing said, looking down.

Feng Yi saw it too.

Below, on a hillside, one could clearly see a smooth, green runway.

The location of this runway was very cleverly chosen; perhaps when deciding to build it here, the slope was also taken into account. Taking advantage of the terrain, the natural slope allowed the plane to ascend along it upon landing, utilizing the upward resistance to stop.

They also saw the residential buildings below. Hearing the noise of the airplane, some residents had already run out, possibly thinking that supplies were being delivered again.

However, once the plane landed and they saw its model and style, they realized it wasn’t a cargo plane, but they weren’t too disappointed—just a bit wary and also curious as they watched the people disembarking.

Occasionally, outsiders would fly to their village, some to film movies, others to shoot documentaries, or for scientific expeditions.

These people from the outside could bring greater benefit to them, but not every team could get along pleasantly with them, and there had been some unpleasant conflicts.

Therefore, when Feng Yi stepped off the plane, he sensed the inquiring emotions from the people.

There was both liking and rejection, but more than anything, it was a scrutiny to see whether this stranger was good or bad.

With Cai Bing’s intervention in negotiating, and Feng Yi giving a box of supplies to the locals, the atmosphere became much more harmonious, although there was still no direct communication between the two parties.

Cai Bing led Feng Yi and his companions toward the village; they needed to secure a place to stay first.

As they walked, Cai Bing told Feng Yi about the local customs and culture. Some things had been mentioned before coming, but being there made everything clearer, and it was good to remind him again of things to be careful about.

When speaking with Feng Yi, Cai Bing spoke in Chinese. Although the villagers did not understand, Cai Bing still kept his voice down:

"The locals worship snakes, or, to be more precise, they worship a snake god with many heads..."

Having said that, Cai Bing felt that "snake god" wasn’t the right way to describe it.

So he added, "The snake god they worship has many heads, oh, it looks like that!"

Feng Yi looked in the direction Cai Bing was pointing.

Not far away was a statue that was very roughly carved, but one could make out the general shape.

The "snake god" statue only showed the upper body. It roughly resembled a human figure, with snake heads emerging around the human head.

When Feng Yi heard Cai Bing talking, he thought it was indeed a deity with many heads, but now, looking at the statue, he knew that the so-called "many heads" were snake heads, not human heads.

Feng Shou asked beside him, "Brother Yi, do you think there really is such a person... a god, or some other kind of... um, creature?"

Like a mythical monster of some sort.

They had entered the locals’ territory, and some things were better left unsaid to avoid offending people. Even if they couldn’t understand the conversation, it was always good to be cautious.

Feng Yi thought for a moment, "Is it possible that this so-called ’god’ just liked to handle snakes, wrapped with many snakes on his body, and due to the ancient people’s limited drawing skills, it was easy to be misunderstood, and through generations, the original image became completely different?"

Before Feng Shou could respond, Cai Bing, with a tone of amazement said, "Oh! So that’s how it is!"

Walking a little further, they could see more densely packed residential buildings.

Made mostly of bamboo and wood.

It was indeed a very primitive style.

Curious, Feng Yi asked, "They’re not completely isolated from the world here, yet they still maintain such primitive living conditions?"

Cai Bing pondered for a moment, "There should be a reason for that. I think there are mainly two reasons: one is that they have lived here for generations and have gotten used to it. The second reason is that people have built better houses here before, but as you know, due to limited conditions, the ’better’ is definitely only relative. To outsiders, they don’t look very impressive and lose the local characteristics."

"There was once a documentary filmmaker who came here and didn’t even bother to look at the sturdier, better house; in the end, he chose to stay in the kind of house built by the locals with bamboo, wood, yellow mud, and thatch."

"The ones here are built on the ground. If you go further into the forest, some houses are built up in the trees. If you’re interested, you could try staying in a treehouse; I think it’s quite nice. Brother Yi, what’s your choice?"

Feng Yi glanced at the faint outline of the treehouses in the distant woods and without much hesitation, he replied, "Let’s stay in the one built on the ground."

After all, the ground felt more solid beneath his feet.

"Alright, this way then, I’ve already arranged it."

Cai Bing led Feng Yi a short distance further and stopped in front of a house that looked similar to those around it.

At first glance, it looked similar, but this house was constructed with some stones as well, and the space was slightly larger, belonging to the category of slightly higher-end houses.

"These houses are mainly for outsiders to live in. But given the limitations, the beds inside are still pretty hard. Do you want to go in and have a look first?" Cai Bing looked at Feng Yi and then at the two people behind him.

Usually, at times like this, bodyguards or life assistants would go in first to tidy up the room and make sure there was no danger, while the sponsor only needed to rest.

As he was thinking this, Cai Bing saw the sponsor pass his backpack to the side.

The younger-looking assistant reached out to take it.

Feng Yi walked into the house first, and after a while, he came out holding a snake.

It was one of the local common venomous species!

Cai Bing: !!!

Holy shit! There was actually a venomous snake inside!

Lucky he didn’t go in!

Huh?

He almost forgot, this guy was indeed rich, but at the same time, he was a true expert!

Certified by the Conservation Bureau, a snake handling master!

What was a venomous snake to him? Wasn’t it as simple as catching earthworms?!

Cai Bing instantly felt safer.

Before, he had only seen the news online and heard how good this guy was at catching snakes, but he never had a firsthand experience. Now, seeing it with his own eyes, Feng Yi handled the situation as if he was admiring scenery, so casual and effortless!

Just like that, a venomous snake was caught!

He was just about to fire off a few flattering remarks when he suddenly remembered something, had a brainwave, and quickly reminded, "Even if you catch snakes here, you can’t kill them! Don’t play around too much with it, it’s not about protecting the species or any of those regulations from the outside, which don’t have much impact here. What I mean is, the people here worship the snake god, and they have a kind of distorted affection for snakes."

If Feng Yi was seen playing around with the snake by the locals, they would definitely think he was disrespecting their snake god. With emotions running high, conflicts could arise.

They couldn’t afford for Feng Yi, the big sponsor, to have any trouble here!

If he had brought more bodyguards it’d be fine, but with only two people, they couldn’t handle the anger of the local residents.

"The saying that ’even a mighty dragon cannot suppress a local snake’ applies here. We should be a bit more discreet. Um, we could be gentler in our methods," Cai Bing said.

Upon hearing this, Feng Yi nodded, then loosened his fingers, no longer grasping the snake, allowing it to coil and crawl on his own hand.

Cai Bing: !!!

Cai Bing was so scared that his hair was about to explode.

I told you to be gentle, not to let it go completely!

That’s a venomous snake, damn it, you can’t even find antivenom right now!

Quick, grab it tight!!!
