Chapter 591: Chapter 386 The Main Pet’s Deep Affection_1
Snakes and lizards—most people prefer to keep their distance from these two creatures.
However, if the two were placed together, people would generally tolerate lizards better than snakes.
In other words, given a choice between snakes and lizards, people would rather encounter lizards.
In the southern region, where project managers and Director Cui, who frequently visit project sites, have seen a lot and dealt with various situations, the fear of snakes and lizards is not intense. Actually, as long as it’s not a venomous snake, it makes little difference to them; either creature can be dealt with a stick, and a bite poses no threat to their life.
But even non-venomous creatures must be guarded against.
When Feng Yi caught the lizard, the project manager reminded him, "Don’t get bitten. Who knows how long it’s been out in the wild, or if it’s carrying any diseases?"
The lizard had seemed aggressive when it burst out, but when Feng Yi picked it up, it became motionless as if it were fake.
There was a space enclosed by a high fence next to the small garden, originally designated for decoration, but construction had not yet started.
Feng Yi placed the lizard there, then said to Jia, "Watch over it and get it some fruit or vegetable leaves it can eat."
Then he told Director Cui, "Check the garden. Some plants have been gnawed on; replace those that need replacing, and just prune the others."
Turning to the project manager he said, "Continue with the construction. I’m going out for a walk and will be back later."
Donning sunglasses and dressed in casual clothes, Feng Yi followed the scent to search for the source of the lizard.
This species of lizard was commonly known as a green iguana.
There used to be many types of American iguanas all referred to as green iguanas, but after people realized that some of these were protected species while others became overpopulated, they reclassified "green iguanas," splitting them into subspecies to protect the ones that needed it and control the population of others.
One such species that was once popular in the pet market and is now rampant in many areas, posing a threat to the local ecology like bandits, is the Rhinoceros Iguana.
The lizard Feng Yi caught in the small garden was of this kind, with tiny horns on its nose and a large conspicuous circular scale below the tympanum on each side of its head.
The lizard seemed fierce and wild; if Feng Yi hadn’t been there to subdue it, it would have shown an aggressive stance towards anyone else. Feng Yi sensed that this one was also domesticated; judging by its size, it had been raised for at least five years.
The place where it was kept wasn’t too far from the museum.
Leaving the construction area and following the scent for about twenty minutes, Feng Yi came upon a residential community.
The community consisted of row houses and detached villas, but they were built quite a while ago, the environment was not very lively, and the property management seemed neglectful.
Without directly entering the community, Feng Yi traced the scent along the edge of the compound until he stopped near a section of the perimeter fencing.
His gaze pierced through the metal barrier, looking inward.
There, sat a young man.
The guy appeared to be about Feng Yi’s age, possibly younger by two or three years. He was sitting in a chair, staring blankly in the direction outside the fence.
Startled by Feng Yi’s approach, the young man shifted his gaze.
Feng Yi said, "Hello, I am..."
Regaining his composure, the young man replied with a steady expression, "I know, you’re Feng Yi, an expert from the Union Protective Agency."
Feng Yi gave him a look and asked, "Did you lose a pet by any chance?"
The man did not deny it; instead, there was an air of resignation, as if a shoe had finally dropped, and he let out a self-deprecating chuckle, "You saw it?"
Feng Yi said, "It broke into my garden and nibbled on the plants."
With a sigh, the man responded, "Sorry, I will compensate for the damage."
Feng Yi nodded and reached for his phone to make a call.
The man hastily stood up, "Wait! There’s no need to call the police. I’ll go myself. I admit the fault! I’ll take the initiative, I will cooperate!"
Feng Yi explained, "I’m not calling the police. I’m asking a UPA investigator to come over for some documentation. We need to follow procedures and gather information."
"Okay... okay," the man said upon hearing the words ’UPA investigator,’ unable to hide his nervousness.
Unlike other institutions, the Union Protective Agency takes these matters very seriously, and this is usually how people react when dealing with them.
Compared to the UPA investigators, Feng Yi, a widely known internet celebrity with a strong public foundation, seemed more approachable and appeared to have a better temperament and easier to communicate with.
If he had already chosen to confess the illegality of his pet-keeping, he might as well start with someone who seemed easier to talk to.
"Should I wait here?" he asked.
"Come over to my side. It’s not far from here, and your pet is there too," Feng Yi said, indicating the direction to the museum.
"Sure."
As soon as the words fell, the man briskly clambered over the community fence.
Feng Yi remarked, "...you could have just used the main gate of the community."
"I didn’t want you to think I was running away... hey, don’t doubt me, I really am a homeowner here, living just next to this one," the man explained as he pulled out his ID and scrolled through his phone to show Feng Yi a few videos.
The videos were shot at home, with the house as a background and featuring the lizard in question.
Feng Yi didn’t doubt any of this. He could distinguish the scents of the lizard and the man from the house nearby. Moreover, he could tell the truth from someone based on his or her emotional information.
