Chapter 579: Chapter 377: I Will Never Go In!_1
Feng Yi initiated an online meeting and then took on a new event.
The border area’s fight against poaching and the black industry chain was nearly over, but the conservation bureau suggested that Feng Yi still stay in Yang City for a while, he could, however, start by participating in local events.
There happened to be a task that was a science education-oriented live streaming event applied for by Yang City Zoo.
Yang City Zoo, in cooperation with the local television station, was running a series of science education events, and this session had moved on to reptiles; they wanted to find two reptile experts for the live stream, but one of the experts they had found had a last-minute issue, so they needed a replacement.
Knowing that Feng Yi was in Yang City and not on assignment, the organizing team immediately reached out to him.
They approached Steve first, as he had more experience in such events and a stronger theoretical knowledge. But since Steve was busy and Feng Yi was available, the organizing team turned to him.
Feng Yi himself wasn’t interested in this, but he had nothing else to do, and the organizing team said he didn’t need to say much during the live stream; he just needed to show up and handle a snake.
All in all, it seemed simple enough, so Feng Yi accepted the task.
The weather in October caused temperatures to drop significantly in northern regions, with some places even seeing snow, but in Yang City, reptiles were still active, and the current temperature was suitable; if there was a mild winter, they wouldn’t even have a hibernation period.
Feng Yi partnered with another reptile expert, surnamed Liu, who wasn’t skilled at handling snakes but had strong theoretical knowledge and extensive teaching experience.
The next day, Feng Yi arrived early at Yang City Zoo, made his way to the reptile house like a regular, didn’t start preparations right away, but first went to see "Little Koi."
He had personally opened the egg to adopt the small python, which was now six months old and over one meter in length.
To be exact, it was over one meter at four months, now rapidly approaching the "two-meter" juvenile stage.
"Little Koi’s" growth rate was clearly faster than the other juvenile pythons of the same period.
As a rapidly growing snake, "Little Koi" was no longer the cutie that could twine around Feng Yi’s fingers; now it could only coil around his arm.
The staff at the zoo’s reptile house wasn’t surprised to see the somewhat temperamental young python moving gently on Feng Yi’s arm.
They were used to it.
The snake wasn’t nearly as affectionate with the staff who fed it.
Were they not more present and familiar to the snake than Feng Yi?
But the snake treated them differently!
However, the adopter didn’t see through rose-tinted glasses.
"Not as cute as before," Feng Yi said.
The staff glanced at the small python wrapped around Feng Yi’s arm.
What’s not cute about it?
Isn’t it pretty cute?! If Steve were here, he would never say such a thing!
"Has it been eating a lot to grow so quickly?" Feng Yi asked.
"Compared to the other juvenile pythons of the same age, it does eat a little more. It’s growing fast and its body fat is normal; otherwise, we wouldn’t dare feed it more," the staff replied.
Speaking of this, the staff felt a great sense of accomplishment, which gave them more confidence in reporting to their superiors!
Fast growth means what? It indicates the juvenile python can adapt well to its current living environment and is very good at absorbing nutrients from its food—the epitome of health!
It also means they’re doing a good job in care!
To speak frankly, they’re counting on it for promotions and raises!
Actually, before this, they received complaints and were accused of favoritism because of growth discrepancies among several pythons from the same batch.
They were greatly wronged! In the same batch, all pythons are carefully cared for, and feeding them is not about quantity—it’s about tailoring to each individual’s growth, as overfeeding can lead to refusal to eat or excessive body fat.
So, it’s not that they didn’t want to feed more!
Really, overfeeding is too risky!
They even consulted with an expert about this, who said the discrepancy might be due to genetics.
Genetics, nobody can be certain, and nobody can do much about it.
"Little Koi" just eats more and grows faster!
Unaware of the controversy it had sparked, "Little Koi" coiled on Feng Yi’s arm, hissing and flicking its tongue.
Feng Yi didn’t need instruments to sense its growth condition.
"Looking good," Feng Yi said.
"It really is stronger than its peers, and it sheds its skin cleanly," the staff said.
After visiting "Little Koi," Feng Yi put it back in its enclosure and headed to another area.
The expert he was paired with had already arrived.
"Teacher Liu!" Feng Yi went over to greet him.
Teacher Liu, in his forties, wasn’t an expert from the conservation bureau but had been on many science education programs and had published papers in some high-impact journals. He was very familiar with Steve and was amiable. He didn’t lecture Feng Yi based on seniority or look down on him for his unconventional background. He smiled and discussed with Feng Yi how they would conduct the broadcast.
Feng Yi had already reviewed the live streaming preparation plan before coming. His task wasn’t heavy; he was only responsible for handling the snakes, while the explanations were mainly to be done by Teacher Liu, who had stronger theoretical knowledge.
When it was almost time, the live streaming crew called them over.
The filming started at the entrance to the snake enclosure of the reptile house.
With increased popularity bringing more foot traffic and revenue, the reptile house had undergone some refurbishment and fine-tuning, and each time Feng Yi visited, he noticed some new details.
Both greeted the audience in front of the camera, and because of Feng Yi’s fame, despite having disappeared online for a while, there were still many people waiting in the live streaming room due to the event’s prior promotion.
