Chapter 566: Chapter 370: I Ask You~_1

On the mountain.

Feng Yi, who identified those three people by their scent, had not seen anyone come by the agreed time, so they had to ascend the mountain first. This had been planned in advance.

The three of them walked up the mountain at an unhurried pace.

The one at the back, with a face full of rough features and bushy sideburns, and a frame as large as a bear, now spoke in a deep, muffled voice, full of confusion and regret:

"How could they not have arrived? Do you think they messed up, or did they just not make it in time? Is it that hard to kidnap someone?"

Another one said, "Don’t know. Just received the news that a sandstorm suddenly hit the area. Maybe they didn’t intercept the person, or maybe they caught someone but didn’t make it here on time, or perhaps they did intercept but failed to kidnap."

"Maybe the sandstorm really delayed them. Should we wait a bit longer?"

"Time’s up, no delays—hurry up the mountain. The heat is on these days, we’d better stick to the boss’s orders! Number Five, move it, it’s getting dark!"

"Alright."

Not having received the "goods," Number Five was in a bad mood, and according to the plan set by their boss, once they crossed the mountain tomorrow, they would take a vehicle from the other side and leave.

Their boss had channels for information and knew that the authorities were putting on the pressure, so to avoid being implicated, they decided to lie low.

This time, lying low, they didn’t know how long it would last.

Thinking about the long time coming without any work or income made him feel stifled, and he couldn’t help but glance at the bag in the hands of the man next to him.

This money was originally intended for the kidnappers, but since they failed to bring the "cargo" over, the money couldn’t be handed out.

They were just a small poaching gang. The gang had around ten people before, but the authorities had reduced their number to six. Any more cuts and they wouldn’t even qualify as a gang anymore. Caution was the right approach.

The authorities have been keeping a close eye lately, although they are focused on another large gang. Their own group was not under such scrutiny for the moment, and they could still take advantage of the chaos to make a few moves.

They had hoped to hunt some good spoils before pulling out, but then the boss received a big order to kidnap someone. However, it wasn’t convenient for their few members to show up in town, so the boss said they would act as middlemen this time, grabbing the goods through someone else’s hands.

"How could it not have been successful? They can’t even manage to kidnap a person—spit!"

Number Five cursed under his breath.

The other two just told him to keep it down a bit and didn’t tell him to shut up. After cooperating for so long, they knew some of Number Five’s foibles—

He talked a lot at night and easily lost his temper. In their small gang, only the boss could handle him.

Otherwise, upsetting Number Five could really set him off!

He had gone off the rails before, unable to distinguish between humans and animals and not recognizing kin, with overwhelming strength and being very difficult to handle.

As long as he doesn’t cause trouble, let him talk.

They continued to trek up the mountain, the ground gradually turning white with snow. The higher they went, the more snow there was, making it even tougher to walk.

They finally arrived at their resting spot for the night, where a tent was pitched with a companion waiting there.

"Back already?"

"Boss?! Why are you here?"

"I was worried, so I came to check on things myself."

The man sitting in front of the tent wasn’t tall and looked utterly ordinary, showing no signs of fierceness.

By comparison with the others, this one looked like an average law-abiding local citizen. But for a small gang to heed his commands, he must have extraordinary cunning and methods.

The man called "Boss" looked behind them.

"Where is he?"

"We didn’t wait it out; we figure it’s a failure. We heard about a sudden sandstorm over there, and we waited until the time you mentioned, but we didn’t see anyone and so we came up the mountain. Big brother, did they actually catch the guy or not?" Number Five asked.

The boss closed his eyes, silent.

At this moment, the other three didn’t dare to make a sound. Seeing the boss’s demeanor, they knew his mood was definitely not good.

After a moment.

The Boss smiled softly and said in a soothing voice, "Don’t stand around, sit and take a rest."

Once the three of them sat down, the Boss spoke again, "The climate isn’t right these days, a careless move can easily get us ’cut down,’ we need to keep ourselves well-hidden, that’s the most important thing."

The quiet Number Three nodded seriously, "That’s true."

But Number Five, after sitting down, still couldn’t help but ask, "Was that person really worth a million?"

The other three looked at him with exasperated expressions.

Number Five: "What? Did I say something wrong?"

Number Two mocked, "Who told you it was a million?"

Number Five gestured with his hand, "That’s the sign you guys made."

Number Two scoffed, "Spit! Who would do this for a million? Better off dealing with ’cotton’ or catching falcons!"

By "cotton," he meant the Tibetan antelope’s down. Shatush’s black market had many buyers in recent years, and prices had risen.

As for falcons, they had to be captured alive to be sold to people of high status in certain countries. Given the current environment, the average person wouldn’t dare to dabble in it. And since the buyers paid well, they were willing to take the risk.

Unoffended by the retort, Number Five seemed excited, "Ten million?!"

He stood up, grabbing the bag, "Big brother, there’s still time. Why don’t we go back and check again? What if the goods were delayed because of the sandstorm? Or, maybe we could find an opportunity ourselves? Ten million!"

The Boss simply tapped the ground, signaling him to sit down quietly.

Number Five squatted down, still muttering under his breath.

The Boss laughed, ignoring him.

The others were not privy to the full story, and he wasn’t about to explain.

His goal wasn’t Feng Yi himself; his ambitions were bigger! Ultimately, it was the medicine behind the scenes he was after!

After capturing the person targeting Feng Yi, he intended to force Ancestral Factory to trade the medicine for their release!
