Closer to Revealing My True Self -
Chapter 564 - 368: Provoked_1
Chapter 564: Chapter 368: Provoked_1
The sky was filled with dust and sand.
One side of the broken shed was besieged by fine sand carried by the fierce wind, invading the interior.
Feng Yi found some building materials at the construction site and temporarily blocked the hole before carrying the unconscious man to another room.
There, Wu was already waiting.
He checked the man Feng Yi had dragged in—unconscious.
"His injuries are severe, and if we want him to survive, we must treat him immediately," Wu said, his tone utterly flat and indifferent.
His compassion was limited and selective. The man on the ground before him did not fall within his range of concern.
At that moment, the room’s door opened, and Jia entered, binding another person.
The bound man appeared unharmed on the surface but had a look of panic in his eyes.
Jia had caught the man outside in a car and had already had a "friendly" chat with him.
The intruder who had entered the shed to threaten Feng Yi had been discovered by Feng Yi as he drew near.
From a distance, Feng Yi had smelled the intruder’s scent and alerted Jia and Wu.
As the other party approached stealthily, Feng Yi could clearly sense the emotions emanating from him. Those negative, malevolent emotions had a strong stench.
"Who sent them?" Feng Yi asked.
"He said he doesn’t know; he only does it for the money," Jia said.
"Where were they planning to take me?" Feng Yi continued.
"The foothills of the mountain to the north. Two hours’ drive from Tuo Jia Town."
Someone had paid them to kidnap Feng Yi and provided the construction site’s address information—that was all they knew. Their mission ended there.
Feng Yi speculated, "Their target is me, or more precisely, for the Ancestral Factory’s new drug!"
That was what Team Leader Yuan and the others had feared, which is why they repeatedly reminded Feng Yi to take a flight and leave as soon as he reached Tuo Jia Town.
It was just that they hadn’t anticipated an unexpected sandstorm. Feng Yi hadn’t gone directly to the airport but had instead turned towards the construction site, providing them with an opportunity to act.
These two were clearly seasoned, having done such things more than once.
This time they had taken the money and, using the sandstorm as cover, seized the moment when the wind had slightly died down to infiltrate the construction site. One entered the shed to capture Feng Yi, while the other waited in the car outside, ready to leave immediately with the captive.
According to the "friendly" conversation Jia had with the bound man, the task they received was:
To capture Feng Yi alive if possible and bring him alive to the agreed location. If that proved unfeasible, they were to kill Feng Yi as a show of force.
"Hmm," Feng Yi mused, "it’s as if I’ve taken a hit for the Ancestral Factory."
Feng Yi’s eyes lifted to gaze out the dust-filled window, leaving one unsure of his thoughts.
At that moment, Jia felt an especially profound depth in Feng Yi’s eyes.
There was an inexplicable trepidation, a premonition that something was about to happen.
After a moment, Feng Yi made a decision.
"I’ll go to the room next door and make a call to express the psychological trauma I’ve suffered this time," he said.
The person Jia had bound suddenly lifted his head, his eyes filled with panic, accusation, and disbelief.
Psychological trauma?!
Who the hell is traumatized?!
Jia contemplated the patched wall of the shed next door and then glanced at the man on the ground with fractures and internal injuries, uncertain of his fate, and continued to remain silent.
Wu agreed, saying, "Right, it’s his fault, Yue Gongyang’s fault for not doing his job properly. Otherwise, this wouldn’t have happened! If it were someone else (a delivery person), they probably would’ve been hurt. This is a serious issue!"
Jia quietly observed as Wu blatantly criticized Geng, and could not help but wonder if Wu had been filing secret reports when he wasn’t looking.
Feng Yi left the room in the care of Jia and Wu and returned to the adjoining room, feeling the sandy air blowing in through the "patched" wall. He looked around at the fine layer of sand covering almost every decorative surface.
It needed cleaning.
The wind outside had significantly weakened, and the cell signal was stronger than before. Feng Yi didn’t sit on the sand-covered recliner but stood by the window to make a call to Geng.
Soon, the call connected.
Feng Yi: "Geng, hey."
In the Ancestor Factory Headquarters Building, the CEO’s office, Yue Gongyang sat upright, his demeanor that of a commanding boss.
Detecting Feng Yi’s subtle tone, Yue Gongyang spoke seriously and earnestly, "I’m here, what trouble have you encountered on your end?"
Feng Yi replied, "I have an idea."
A sense of dread flickered in Yue Gongyang’s heart, and his mind raced, but he kept his tone steady and calm, reliable as ever, "Go ahead."
Feng Yi briefly recounted what had just happened in the construction shed.
Yue Gongyang frowned deeply and his expression darkened.
Those familiar with him would definitely know that he was in a foul mood.
He was annoyed with himself.
Initially, it was expected that after Feng Yi delivered the drug and Wu finished recording its use, Feng Yi would return to Tuo Jia Town and fly back without any issues.
However, they hadn’t anticipated a sudden sandstorm that forced Feng Yi to change his schedule unexpectedly and encounter criminals.
From Feng Yi’s description, the attack was indeed targeted at the Ancestral Factory; it wouldn’t have mattered if it was another delivery person—they too would have been targeted.
The difference was, other couriers would have had more armed forces arranged by him for protection, whereas Feng Yi rejected such security, making it so easy for him to confront the attackers.
Now, listening to Feng Yi’s words, Yue Gongyang quickly realized that Feng Yi was emotional.
Feng Yi asked, "Do you have arrangements in Tuo Jia Town?"
"There are arrangements," he affirmed.
Geng Yang didn’t have someone protecting Feng Yi at all times, and that was Feng Yi’s own decision. However, Geng Yang did send some people to Tuo Jia Town just in case there were emergencies, like the situation at hand.
"The two I caught here," Feng Yi said, "have someone come pick them up."
"No problem," Geng Yang replied. "I’ll contact someone to head there immediately."
At the same time, his internal alarm bells were ringing urgently!
Geng Yang knew Feng Yi well enough that if there were no serious issues, Feng Yi would have handed these lawbreakers over to the United Protection Bureau instead of asking his people to take them.
In other words, Feng Yi didn’t want the United Protection Bureau to know about the situation here for the time being, blocking them temporarily.
When would Feng Yi block the United Protection Bureau?
When he was up to something!
So Geng Yang tentatively said, "I’ll contact someone right now, drive over, and bring some supplies for you. Is there anything you’re missing there?"
Feng Yi glanced at the room’s damaged walls and the cupboard storing food: "The walls of the shed need fixing—bring some food over, anything will do as long as it’s edible... Forget the walls for now. Once this blows over, we’ll send someone specifically to repair them, and they’ll have to sort out the rooms anyway."
That meant, fill the car with food!
Geng Yang’s heart was in his throat as he asked, "Should I get someone to bring a truck over first?"
"Sure," Feng Yi said. "Oh, and about those two guys, see if you can get any more information out of them. Treat the one who’s seriously injured, just keep him alive until tomorrow and hand him over to the relevant department. Also, it’s not their first time doing this—they must have other cases on their backs. Check if there is any reward money when turning them in."
"Hmm, alright."
These were minor matters. What Geng Yang cared more about was something else. He took a deep breath and gently asked, "What were you thinking of before?"
Instead of answering directly, Feng Yi asked, "If I stir up a little trouble, can you smooth it over?"
Geng Yang didn’t dare to make promises immediately and instead said, "Hold on—could you specify how little this trouble is?"
If it truly was a minor issue, he indeed could handle it, even taking the blame if necessary.
But if it was "a tiny bit" of trouble, that would be too much for him alone to handle! He’d need outside help!
Feng Yi said, "I’ve thought it over, and today’s issue can’t be overlooked; it has to be taken seriously! It would be better if we could resolve this matter quickly."
Geng Yang probed, "What’s your plan? I can help review it, check which details need adjustment. I’m good at this!"
Feng Yi spoke calmly, "I plan to deal with the person who caused the problem."
Geng Yang: "..."
Geng Yang’s nerves tightened.
He also cursed those who threatened Feng Yi internally.
They still came to cause trouble just when Feng Yi was about to leave!
See, you’ve managed to annoy him!
Before Geng Yang could speak, Feng Yi continued, "I have another issue."
Feng Yi opened a briefcase and rifled through the bizarrely patterned masks inside.
He had worn one before and could sense the care taken in the materials used. High elasticity and ventilation, soft and skin-friendly—he had worn it for half an hour without feeling significantly uncomfortable.
But that didn’t mean he liked the thing!
"This case you gave to Wu," Feng Yi asked, "why are the masks designed like this?"
Geng Yang: "...It’s purely personal taste, no other meaning. I was planning to keep it for myself to play with, but you know how it is, the situation was special, so I had to use it in an emergency."
Feng Yi: "Oh. Fine, that’s it, send your people over."
The winds outside had weakened significantly, and even though there was still dust in the air, the threat was no longer as fierce as before.
Feng Yi heard the sound of other vehicles driving nearby and the faint voices of people talking.
Looking at the wall patched with a makeshift repair, Feng Yi messaged Yi in Yang City.
The temporary structures built here were easy to assemble and disassemble for convenience, thus the materials were clearly not the same as brick walls, making repairs quick.
"The frame is sturdy, but the wall’s not good enough—switch to thicker boards."
Geng Yang’s team moved fast. Soon enough, a small truck drove into the construction site, loaded with food, some of it still steaming fresh from the oven.
After the food was moved into the shed, the two captives were handed over to his people.
The truck left.
Inside the shed, Feng Yi stayed in the room full of food, "gathering strength."
In the next room,
Jia received Geng Yang’s call.
Geng Yang spoke anxiously: "He seems to be plotting something big this time—aren’t you going to interfere?!"
Jia retorted: "What makes you think I can control him? Or that you can?"
Geng Yang was left speechless: "I can’t."
Jia: "I’m just a worker; don’t have unrealistic expectations of me!"
Geng Yang internally: I definitely don’t want to upset our only supplier!
He could sense Feng Yi’s discontent while talking to him, and even though it wasn’t directed at him, it still concerned him.
If this affects the supply...
The unpleasant call with Jia ended.
Geng Yang was emotionally disturbed, but with a bellyful of anger ready to explode, he took out a secure phone and made a call.
"Daring to mess with a delivery guy from Ancestor Factory comes at a price!"
"We’re no pushovers!"
