Chapter 526: Chapter 348: Capable_1
Yang City.
Bing was organizing the newly purchased materials and tidying up the ingredients when he saw the butler in the courtyard holding his phone, chatting with someone.
He didn’t know what message the butler saw, but his old face suddenly darkened.
Having known the butler for so long, Bing realized that it took a lot for the butler to have such an obvious negative expression, given his understanding of the man.
He had no idea what could cause the butler to pull such a long face.
Tsk tsk.
No longer looking at the butler, Bing focused on his own tasks.
Even though Feng Yi wasn’t in Yang City, Bing still had his work to do.
He planned to make a new batch of nutritional liquid and accompanying compressed biscuits.
A few days ago, Yi went to Tuo Jia Town and brought a batch to Feng Yi.
Feng Yi quite liked the nutritional liquid, which gave Bing a great sense of achievement and enthusiasm to continue developing new products!
He intended to diversify the nutritional liquid, making concentrated and non-concentrated versions.
For the concentrated version, just dilute it with water according to the ratio, and package it in small sachets, using one sachet each time. Just like those concentrated coffee syrups.
Hmm, consider a few new flavors, too.
For the drinkable kind, besides nutritional liquid, could he come up with several more convenient solid powder forms?
Or perhaps several kinds of paste that could be eaten directly? These would not be as dry as compressed biscuits and could provide more energy than the nutritional liquid.
Create more types to meet different scenarios’ needs.
Bing rubbed his hands together, eager to embark on his journey of developing new products.
Tuo Jia Town.
After a brief stay, Team Leader Yuan and his team set off again and soon disappeared from Feng Yi’s sight.
Once the group left, Wen Zhiyu, who had been huddling behind Feng Yi, relaxed again. Even Pan Weining, who hadn’t left the car, heaved a sigh of relief.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Wen Zhiyu thought that compared to the people from the United Protection Bureau, the snake in Feng Yi’s hand seemed rather lovely.
"Who was that just now? Someone you know?" Wen Zhiyu asked.
"Team Leader Yuan from the United Protection Bureau’s special investigation unit. I’ve had contact with him before," Feng Yi said.
"Oh! Sounds higher up than a regular investigator! So it’s them investigating the fire meteorite’s strange event? The helicopter we saw this morning, was that theirs too?"
"Seems like it," Feng Yi said.
"They do look a bit intimidating," Wen Zhiyu remarked.
Pan Weining didn’t say much, but recalling the scene he had just witnessed, he felt that Team Leader Yuan, who seemed quite imposing, must be somewhat familiar with Feng Yi.
Wen Zhiyu hadn’t noticed that much; anyway, the intimidating ones had left, and he could continue what he hadn’t finished before.
After taking pictures for Feng Yi, he squeezed in to take selfies with the snake, striking several poses and posting them on social media.
"There’s some signal here, but the internet is really slow. It takes a while for a sentence or a picture to send."
With the poor signal, Wen Zhiyu didn’t bother checking his social media updates and instead pocketed his phone, ready to get back in the car.
Many people in Wen Zhiyu’s social circle knew he was in Tuo Jia Town and that he planned to try his hand at meteorite hunting. Thus, many people who couldn’t make it there themselves were following his social media for updates, knowing that he would immediately share any developments unless he had no signal.
When they finally caught a glimpse of a new update, they thought he might have discovered something new. But when they checked, there was no meteorite, just a snake.
Well... that also counts as a new discovery.
When Wen Zhiyu edited the photos, he blurred out Feng Yi, but those who knew their whereabouts could guess who was catching the snake.
After Feng Yi finished documenting and photographing, he released the snake back to where it came from.
The snake slithered away as if fleeing for its life, quickly disappearing into the grass.
Feng Yi returned to the car, which was about to start.
Two more vehicles approached.
However, these two vehicles were not the cold, austere style of the United Protection Bureau; they were probably like them, out to find meteorites.
The two cars drew near and stopped beside them.
The person in the driver’s seat of one car looked their way and waved happily:
"Yo, Big Pan, you guys are here too!"
"Yeah, here to look for meteorites?" Pan Weining asked.
"Just here for fun, to join the excitement. It doesn’t matter if we find any, it’s all about participating," said the man, though his face revealed a determination as if he wouldn’t be content until he found a meteorite.
Feng Yi sensed the gaze from across the way and looked up in that direction.
The group over there was dressed pretty cool, as if they were about to head out and do something big.
Neither party chatted much; this wasn’t a good place for conversation. Besides, to find the meteorite as quickly as possible, they couldn’t afford to linger here.
Both parties set off again, but the difference was that the others seemed to deliberately slow down, letting Feng Yi and his group’s car lead the way.
Wen Zhiyu didn’t know where the others came from. After the car started moving and hearing a bit from Pan Weining, he remembered, "Oh, it’s them. No big deal!"
Seeing Feng Yi’s puzzled look, Wen Zhiyu explained,
"I’m not familiar with them, but from what I’ve heard from Pan, these people have the best gear, look cooler than anyone else, but when it comes down to it, they perform worse than everyone! Don’t be fooled by their elite appearance, they’re actually quite bad. If their skills don’t cut it, they just try to make up for it with gear, and it doesn’t necessarily yield good results. Even in finding meteorites, I think they’re more likely to end up with fake ones!"
What Feng Yi was really concerned about wasn’t whether this group could find meteorites. He realized that the meteor event had caused such a sensation that people from all over were reacting very quickly to come here for adventure and try their luck.
"In the coming period, the number of tourists coming here out of interest will rapidly increase," Feng Yi said.
Pan Weining commented, "Tuo Jia Town, the once city of meteorites, is becoming famous again. The younger generation who hasn’t heard of Tuo Jia Town will come here out of curiosity or just to join in the buzz, looking to understand meteorites and add a little adventure story to their experience. Like the group we just saw, with their means, it’s not necessarily about selling meteorites for money; it could purely be for the thrill, to experience the life of meteorite hunting."
They were discussing the people in the two cars behind.
Meanwhile, in those two cars, they were also talking about Feng Yi and Pan Weining.
"Are we really going to keep following the car in front? Didn’t we buy some information?"
"Indeed, we did purchase some recent intel from the locals before we left. But its accuracy is dubious, and it’s not necessarily comprehensive. However, Pan Weining has his contacts and networks here. Him leaving the highway so quickly for this direction surely indicates a clear plan. And besides Pan Weining, there’s also Feng Yi. He is an expert from the Integrated Protection Bureau; he might have access to insider information."
"Makes sense. Did you guys see the Integrated Protection Bureau’s helicopter when you came today? Feng Yi could really have inside information!"
"Given the Integrated Protection Bureau’s cautious style, they might not disclose it to Feng Yi. However, being an expert there, maybe he has other channels to obtain more data and pinpoint a more accurate meteorite region, which could save us a lot of trouble."
"Feng Yi... he really is quite capable."
Inside the leading vehicle.
Unaware that he had just been tagged as "quite capable," Feng Yi looked out the window at the passing scenery.
The farther they went, the scarcer the plants became; there weren’t even many tufts of grass.
There were wheel tracks on the ground.
"There’ve been a lot of visitors," he observed.
It wasn’t just cars from Tuo Jia Town, but also those from other cities that had come here. A night had passed, leaving behind traces—some obscured by wind and sand, while others were still discernible.
If Uncle Du could give them an approximate range for the meteorite fall, so could others through various channels.
"Does the Integrated Protection Bureau’s special investigation team know the area better?" Wen Zhiyu asked.
After thinking for a moment, Feng Yi said, "They surely have more detailed data, but they might not go looking for meteorites right away; they have their own tasks, which are not solely about finding meteorites."
Pan Weining shot Wen Zhiyu a look, signaling him not to ask Feng Yi about the Integrated Protection Bureau’s affairs anymore. What if Feng Yi slipped up and revealed information he shouldn’t? Wouldn’t that be a mistake?
And Pan Weining also believed Feng Yi’s earlier words. If it were him, he would definitely focus on the odd imagery.
Besides checking for meteorites, they also had to look for other anomalies in the vicinity, collecting more data and evidence from multiple facets for immediate analysis.
Following the direction Uncle Du had suggested, they continued forward, encountering more vehicles on the hunt for meteorites. Most of these belonged to the meteorite hunters of Tuo Jia Town, who had set out the night before.
"Till now, has no one found any fragments of that fireball from last night?" Wen Zhiyu said.
Having observed some of those people, Pan Weining said, "I don’t know if genuinely no one has found the fireball’s meteorites, or if someone has but is keeping it a secret."
"Should we keep going forward?" Wen Zhiyu asked.
Pan Weining was about to say "Let’s go a bit further," but Feng Yi, sitting in the back seat, suddenly spoke up, "Let’s stop here for a bit."
The driver, Jia, immediately stopped the car.
Without any fuss, Feng Yi got out, followed by Pan Weining and Wen Zhiyu.
Wen Zhiyu asked, "Did you spot something? Could there be snakes under this sand?"
Feng Yi said, "No, I think there should be meteorite fragments around here."
If anyone else had said that, Wen Zhiyu would have surely cursed back. Can finding meteorites be based on a hunch? Isn’t it supposed to rely on experience and technology?!
But since it was Feng Yi who said it, Wen Zhiyu thought: Worthy of being an expert from the Integrated Protection Bureau, that hunch is more reliable than any instrument! He’ll definitely discover something!
The people in the two cars following them saw Feng Yi’s group stop and got out of their cars too, starting to unload their gear.
Glancing over, Wen Zhiyu snorted, "Copycats! Are they using a detector? Why does it look different from ours, more upscale?"
"But if that fireball has low metal content, detectors will be pretty much useless," Pan Weining said.
Wen Zhiyu couldn’t hold back his words, quietly saying to Feng Yi and Pan Weining, "Looking at their sorry state, I have a feeling this fireball is very likely a stony meteorite.
"No offense, but that lot could make a whole episode of ’Air-Heads in Action’ even if they were just fishing!"
