Chapter 513: Chapter 341 New Idea_1

Uncle Wei left, and the house was almost fully opened up to Pan Weining and Feng Yi.

Previously, the only thing that Uncle Wei valued here was the meteorites in the underground warehouse; there wasn’t much else of value.

Now, with most of the meteorites decided to be sold off, and having already been given to Feng Yi in advance by Uncle Wei, there wasn’t much left in the house for the owner to care about, allowing a few people to play as they pleased.

Feng Yi and Wen Zhiyu weren’t interested in the house; Feng Yi wanted to study the meteorites, but Wen Zhiyu and Pan Weining decided to go out for a walk, and Feng Yi joined them, to simultaneously see where in the town would be suitable for buying land.

Uncle Wei’s meteorite Hunter friend still hadn’t returned, so Feng Yi and the others decided to first drive around Tuo Jia Town, but this time they were not shopping for crafts, but scouting for locations.

Feng Yi wanted to buy land and build a house here, and he needed to have an idea of what was available.

The car drove along the road; Wen Zhiyu looked at the buildings outside, "Another unfinished building, it’s been left like this for so many years, who knows what kinds of problems it has inside; even if you buy it, it’s best to tear it down and rebuild."

The unfinished buildings in the town looked particularly desolate.

Tuo Jia Town wasn’t large, there weren’t many traffic lights on the roads, and the way was clear, allowing them to cover all the main thoroughfares in no time.

The group returned home for lunch, rested a bit, then set out once again.

This time they headed outside the town.

Their car stopped at the edge of the town, from where they could see both the town streetscape and the distant Gobi Desert.

The group got out of the car and started walking around.

"Walk further down this road, and there’s a very large lake; Tuo Jia Town doesn’t really lack water," Pan Weining said, pointing to a green belt, "But there are occasional power outages. If you want to build a house here, you need to be prepared for that."

Feng Yi responded a few times, about to say something, when he suddenly stopped.

He raised his head, discerning the direction of the wind and the changes in the odors it carried, frowning.

Seeing the change in Feng Yi’s expression, Pan Weining asked,

"What did you find?"

"There might be some rat infestations in that direction," Feng Yi said.

Wen Zhiyu laughed, "A Bureau of Joint Guarantee expert’s nose indeed! You can smell it from so far away!"

Then he sighed with some resentment, "After the period of climate anomalies, with so many natural predators of rats gone, these rodents have indeed prospered! Every year, we hear about rat plagues somewhere, and it’s not much better in the cities. I can’t stand it, whenever these little creatures are at their worst, I run off to Rat Avoidance Villa!"

It took Feng Yi a while to respond, "Rat Avoidance Villa? Where’s that?"

Wen Zhiyu: "I’m not sure, really. I make a list of places, and each year I can compare them; I go wherever there are fewer rats."

Looking in the direction Feng Yi mentioned, Pan Weining felt some concern and sent a message to his uncle on his phone:

[Uncle, is there a rat plague where you passed?]

There was no immediate reply, but after a while, a new message came in:

[Just got a pop-up warning! Damn, there’s a rat plague! They’re swarming!]

Pan Weining’s heart sank, and he immediately called his uncle, quickly getting through.

Pan Weining: "Uncle, what’s happening with you guys now? Where are you?"

Uncle Wei was still relatively calm: "We’re stuck on the road; a lot of cars on this route received pop-up notifications and stopped for the time being. We’ve already closed the windows."

Having lived through the period of climate anomalies, they were prepared for various disasters, and the notifications were timely.

Vehicles had gradually stopped on some roads where the rat swarm was expected to pass, making defensive preparations.

They just needed to wait for the rats to pass. There were people assigned to deal with it, and they didn’t need to do anything.

If the vehicles didn’t stop, the rats could cause chaos and accidents as they passed.

Uncle Wei spoke calmly, but Pan Weining could tell that things were worse than he imagined.

"A swarm? Is it that serious? Didn’t we start preparing for this early this year?"

"Certainly some places didn’t do their job properly, dealt with it perfunctorily, and now we have this mess."

After speaking with Pan Weining, Uncle Wei looked out of the car window.

This wasn’t his first experience with such events, and he wasn’t afraid, just a bit irritated.

An inexplicable irritation.

Perhaps it was the unexpected rat swarm that had delayed his journey, or perhaps it was the upcoming wait. Waiting didn’t feel good.

Soon, he saw multiple gray or dark brown figures in his line of sight.

Uncle Wei showed a look of disgust.

These figures passed through the gaps between vehicles and beneath them.

The closed windows kept out much of the noise; it was impossible to hear if there were any screams or shouts of anger in the other vehicles.

He withdrew his gaze, choosing not to look anymore.

His thoughts were already in turmoil, and seeing those scenes only aggravated his irritation.

Uncle Wei closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat to rest, quietly contemplating things like the next investments and project plans.

He could ignore what was happening outside, but his two bodyguards were constantly vigilant.

Before they set out, they had told Pan Weining that no one would block the road.

Indeed, no one did.

But what was blocking the road wasn’t human!

They were stuck here because of a swarm of rats!

They just hoped the rats would pass quickly!

The bodyguard sitting next to Uncle Wei sensed something was wrong and leaped over to shield him.

The next moment, the car was struck!

A car from behind sped past on a service road, but due to the rats, it didn’t drive steadily, scraping several other cars as it went.

Uncle Wei’s car was also sideswiped, the impact was not too severe, but the suddenness of it caused Uncle Wei to lose his balance. Protected by his bodyguard, he didn’t hit anything, but the box in his hand fell due to the collision.
