Chapter 369: Chapter 269 First Impression_1

Feng Yi had a detailed conversation with Captain Wen about the mission at the venue.

If you want to grind experience, you always have to choose tasks you can handle; if it’s not within his capability, then he would simply have to choose another.

However, fortunately, this time Captain Wen’s Seventh Patrol Team was only going into the mountains to check a few target locations, where large areas of bamboo forests were blooming, to investigate the reasons.

The base of operations would be at the Tan Mountain monitoring station, where the mountains were numerous, including a mountain range. Some targets were located deep in the mountain range, so they might spend several days in the woods, which would be quite strenuous.

As for this, Feng Yi didn’t care much. He adapted quickly to the environment in the mountains and forests.

Having agreed on the mission collaboration, they submitted their application on the platform. With Captain Wen around, the application was approved swiftly.

After completing the procedures, Feng Yi went home. It was already time for dinner.

Captain Wen initially wanted to invite Feng Yi for a meal to continue discussing the mission.

Feng Yi declined, saying he needed to go back and pack his things.

Captain Wen thought about it and agreed, as the trip was hastily arranged and Feng Yi hadn’t even packed yet.

They agreed on the departure time for the next day and went their separate ways to get busy with their own matters.

Feng Yi hurried home.

With a mission coming up, and not much time left to eat at home, shouldn’t he take the opportunity to have a good meal?

Cherishing the chance, Feng Yi enjoyed a satisfying dinner, then checked the luggage that the butler had packed for him.

Earlier, he had specifically messaged the butler to prepare a large capacity water bottle.

Then, Feng Yi saw it—

"Um... that bucket, what is it?"

Feng Yi pointed to a shelf next to the suitcase, where there was a nearly 5-liter metal water bucket.

It looked somewhat like the "ton-ton bucket" online, but those ton-ton buckets rarely held 5 liters and were seldom made of metal.

Feng Yi didn’t mind the material; a heavier weight didn’t affect him either.

But! Such a large water bucket was too conspicuous!

This was indeed a large capacity and very sturdy, but this couldn’t be considered a water bottle—it was a water bucket!

Feng Yi looked towards the butler.

The butler, with a smile, seemed to have "you need this" written on his face.

Feng Yi’s gaze returned to the large water bucket, and after a moment of silence, he earnestly said:

"I suddenly feel that I should try to fit in more. This water bucket is suitable for daily outings, but for the mission, let’s use my multipurpose water bottle from last time. I heard that the people from the Alliance Protection Agency always carry that one when they go out into the field, let’s use the uniform style."

Of course, the butler complied with Feng Yi’s wishes and swapped out the 5-liter bucket.

Nevertheless, the butler still felt that ordinary water bottles were not enough and that nothing but large capacity ones were pleasing to the eye.

"I’ve prepared all the food and necessities," said the butler, informing Feng Yi of what was packed in the suitcase.

It wasn’t his first mission, so he had a clear idea of what and how much to bring.

"Mm, I’m leaving early tomorrow morning. This mission won’t take too long," Feng Yi told the butler, "Take care of your health while I’m gone."

The butler acknowledged, with a kind face expressing, "You could take the official plane over."

"I’ve already arranged it with Captain Wen; we have a plane set up there," Feng Yi said.

The butler looked slightly disappointed.

He had just had some details changed in the private plane’s interior decor, hoping Feng Yi would take a look.

Alas, it was a pity that it wouldn’t be used this time.

The next day, Feng Yi went to the airport early in the morning.

Feng Yi traveled with Captain Wen’s team, while Jia drove separately to Tan Mountain with some of the living supplies.

After a flight that was not too long, the plane landed at the airport. Without exiting the terminal, Feng Yi and Captain Wen boarded a helicopter waiting there and flew to the Tan Mountain monitoring station.

Inside the Tan Mountain monitoring station.

The Seventh Patrol Team, due for this patrol, had arrived here two days in advance and started some of the work.

They were waiting for Captain Wen to return before heading into the mountains, and some preparatory work also needed to be done in advance.

The mountain range where Tan Mountain was situated posed certain dangers. The team used to have an expert of an advisory nature, and after working together for a long time, they got used to having such an expert among them, which was helpful for their patrol missions.

But it was not an absolute necessity. If they couldn’t find a suitable expert, they could do without one.

Most powerful experts were already on missions, and it was difficult to find a satisfactory person in a short time.

Therefore, when Captain Wen said he was going to Yang City to check some files and casually look for a suitable expert, the team members didn’t hold much hope.

However, no one expected to receive such a message from Captain Wen!

"It’s actually Feng Yi!"

"This is amazing, since when does Captain Wen pick such a young expert? This doesn’t really fit with Captain Wen’s usual style."

"In any case, Feng Yi truly won the Guardian Award on his own merits; he has real skill and shouldn’t be judged by his age alone."

"I’m not questioning his abilities. Since the captain has chosen him, it means Feng Yi definitely possesses the strength that the captain acknowledges. I just hope he can be pragmatic."

Capability is one thing; temperament and style are another.

No matter how skilled, if he doesn’t mesh well with the patrol team, there will be plenty of conflicts. Just thinking about it is troublesome.

They had never interacted with Feng Yi before and had no idea what kind of personality he had or how he conducted himself; they could only wait and observe after his arrival.

The black helicopter landed on the helipad of the monitoring station.

The team members approached to greet him.

Their gazes shifted to look behind Captain Wen.

Captain Wen’s eyes swept over the team members present, "Where are Deputy Leader Jin and Ling?"

"They went to help the villagers at the foot of Tan Mountain exterminate rats. We already sent them a message; they should be back soon," a team member said.

Captain Wen nodded and then introduced Feng Yi to the members of the seventh patrol team present, as well as the staff of the monitoring station.

Having some business to attend to, Captain Wen told Feng Yi to go rest in his room or to do whatever he pleased.

"We won’t be going into the mountains today, so you can use this time to rest well and adjust," said Captain Wen.

A dormitory room had already been arranged for Feng Yi at the monitoring station.

Feng Yi put his luggage down, tidied up briefly, and checked in with his housekeeper.

Not continuing to stay in the room, Feng Yi decided to take a walk around first.

This monitoring station was not much different from others he had been at for catching sea snakes; the functional zones were all similar, it was just a bit more spacious here.

This station is the largest in the mountain range area, and many squads on missions or research teams would rest and reorganize here.

Feng Yi did not go to the station’s working area but instead came to a small courtyard behind it.

In the courtyard, some vegetables were simply planted, and there were also a few small fruit trees.

Their growth was decent, but it was evident that no one had purposely taken care of the fruit trees and vegetables.

Running into a logistics staff member, Feng Yi asked, "Can I pick a few leaves from the vegetables you’ve planted here?"

The logistics person replied, "If it’s just a few leaves, that’s fine. But if you want to dig out the whole plant or dig too many, you’ll need to report it to the station chief. These were all planted on the chief’s orders."

Feng Yi then inquired, "The vegetables you’ve planted here haven’t been fertilized, have they?"

"No," answered the logistics member, "we hardly ever water them, either."

He explained to Feng Yi, "We began planting vegetables here because the station chief said he wanted to observe what these fruits and vegetables would look like when they grow naturally with minimal human care.

"Previous years were okay, but this year, they are slightly worse due to less rainfall than usual. We had to water them manually last week."

Afterward, the logistics member continued with his work, leaving Feng Yi alone in the courtyard.

He was curious about this area.

A high concentration of energy matter was found above the region encompassing Tan Mountain and the nearby mountain range.

He wondered whether it was due to environmental reasons or something else.

His original "hatching" location wasn’t too far from here. At the time, his sensitivity to the energy matter was not strong enough, and he hadn’t noticed the difference at high altitudes.

A higher concentration of energy matter would impact all living beings below.

Of course, such impacts were generally imperceptible to most people.

Some very subtle changes are more likely to be mistaken as a result of the local geographical environment and climate.

Feng Yi sought to understand more about this place and figured he could start with these vegetables.

From their growth, Feng Yi couldn’t discern any useful information, but he could analyze them through their scent and taste.

What climate conditions the vegetables had encountered during their growth period, including rainfall, sunlight, and certain trace elements in the soil, could all be partially deduced through this approach.

He picked two large leaves, rinsed them to remove the surface dust and other impurities.

The leaves were thick and green, with a pure vegetable taste.

He placed one leaf in his mouth, chewed carefully, feeling the fibers of the leaf and the plastids from the cells after they burst.

An insect flew into the courtyard, landing on a nearby fruit tree leaf.

The insect carried various scents, some from the mountain forest and some from its own pheromones.

The scents were faint, and the current wind direction wasn’t very conducive.

Lowering his presence, Feng Yi approached it, bending forward slightly; the other leaf in his hand was used to fan in the direction of the wind, catching more of the insect’s scent.

A team member who had just regrouped came looking for Feng Yi and, upon seeing the scene in the courtyard, halted his steps, then silently retreated back into the building.

The member walked quickly to Captain Wen and pointed towards the courtyard:

"Is that Feng Yi? The one who’s really famous online, the one who’s great at catching snakes? The Feng Yi from the expert committee, the one chosen by the publicity department?"

Looking through the window towards the courtyard, Captain Wen had a complex expression on his face after understanding what was happening inside.

"It’s him."

The other team members also peered through, only to see in the courtyard: Feng Yi bit on a raw, green leaf, crunching away. He then leaned over in front of a fruit tree, staring blankly at a small black flying insect as if looking at an interesting toy, while using a large green leaf in his hand to fan the insect.

The behavior was incomprehensible.

It was hard to say whether this man was too profound or too immature.

In any case, this scene had deviated from the behavioral norms of most people, and it was beyond their logical capacity to analyze.

The first impression of Feng Yi by all the present members of the seventh patrol team—

[Outrageous]
