Chapter 367: Chapter 267 Preparing for Peeling_1
Before the countdown of the bright red window on the screen ended, Feng Yi quickly chose not to request assistance and closed the window.
As a result, the analysis page on the computer also exited, without displaying the specific results of the analysis as described in the instructions, such as identifying a certain type of poisonous snake and then recommending a corresponding treatment plan.
The only thing left on the interface was a warning of danger.
There was also a small note at the bottom stating that the analysis results were abnormal, possibly due to operational error or contamination with other hazardous substances.
However, Feng Yi knew that all of these were just covers on the surface.
The warning popup during the analysis of the test kit indicated that it had already detected the type of toxin and its toxicity level.
Feng Yi looked towards Wu, preparing to say something.
Wu’s phone rang.
But judging by Wu’s demeanor, it seemed he had anticipated who the caller was; he slowly picked up the phone and showed the caller ID on the screen to Feng Yi.
Feng Yi raised his eyebrows and then understood.
The call was from Geng, who was the nominal boss of the Ancestral Factory.
Doctor Wu pressed answer, "Hello? Boss Geng?"
The voice on the other end was cold, "Were you the one using the test kit to detect poison just now? Red popup warning?"
"Yeah. I just wanted to see what kind of results it would produce. Then the popup appeared."
There was a deep breath from the other end, "You understand now?"
"Ah, I do. Boss Geng, there was also a countdown in the window, what happens when that 5-second countdown ends? Does it trigger an alarm?" Wu asked.
"It would contact a medical team on our side at the Ancestral Factory. If it detects that toxin, it will directly inform the Ancestral Factory, and I’ll receive the message immediately."
Holding back, Boss Geng still cursed, "Next time you do this kind of experiment, give me a heads-up! I was about to activate the emergency response plan!"
Wu explained, "I dared to try because I knew the database was yours."
Geng: "That’s still not okay! Hand the phone to Feng Yi!"
Wu handed the phone to Feng Yi, gesturing for him to take the call.
Feng Yi: "Geng?"
Geng had a lot he wanted to say, but he also worried, too much agitation in his tone might displease this boss and result in being cut off from supply.
After holding it in for a while, Geng finally spoke in a more moderated tone, "Be careful with quack doctors in everyday life!"
Feng Yi: "... Okay."
The crisis was averted. As the manager of the Ancestral Factory, Geng was busy with work and didn’t say more, going back to his tasks.
When he had some free time, Geng made another call to Doctor Wu and gave him a piece of his mind, admonishing his reckless approach.
Feng Yi was unaware of these developments. After leaving the lab, he did not immediately return to his room upstairs.
Lately, it had been hot, with the sun beating down outside. Opening the window and standing by it, he could feel the wave of heat hit him.
Even the koi in the pond had hidden under the shade of the trees.
During this rare peaceful and quiet time, Feng Yi thought for a moment and then went down to the basement and its pool.
There was a soaking tub there, with its bottom paved with stones, the same material as the stones paved on the path outside for shedding skin.
However, Feng Yi wasn’t intending to soak today.
Feeling the pleasant coolness of the basement temperature, Feng Yi transformed into his original form and approached a tree by the pool.
The robust trunk had a limb extending from it, almost devoid of leaves.
This was, of course, not a real tree but an imitation, made from more durable materials and with greater load-bearing capacity.
Feng Yi had once mentioned to the butler that he wanted a horizontal bar, and in just a few days, the butler had acquired this and placed it here in the basement.
The ceilings of each floor in this house were much higher than those of typical buildings, but it was not suitable for use as a horizontal bar for exercise, as the space wasn’t spacious enough.
Feng Yi merely treated it as a sort of special stool, a piece of furniture designed for sitting or lying, with a sense of style.
Skilfully hoisting himself onto the bar and controlling his tail to avoid whipping the ceiling, he wrapped it around the "branch" a couple of times instead.
After finding a comfortable position, Feng Yi took out his phone and refreshed the news.
He wanted to see the public’s reaction to this new type of test kit for snakebite poisoning.
Capable of creating such a test kit based on his own venom and serum, Feng Yi was very satisfied.
The price of broad-spectrum antivenom was too high, and many people couldn’t afford it. Most venomous snakebites, if treated promptly in the hospital and with the right serum, were not hard to treat. Only if the condition couldn’t be resolved by the serum would people consider using broad-spectrum antivenom.
For those snakebites of lesser toxicity, there was even less need for it.
For the general public, such a test kit was definitely more cost-effective.
Not everyone would encounter new species of highly venomous sea snakes with such low probability, and in areas where sea snakes were frequent, local major hospitals had the corresponding serums.
Feng Yi browsed the online discussions about this new test kit.
As expected, it had a higher acceptance rate. Broad-spectrum antivenom was touted as a miracle drug, which already implied it would not be cheap.
But this test kit, although not exactly cheap, was relatively more affordable.
It could also provide quicker assistance in emergency situations.
It was like adding an extra layer of security to one’s life.
While he was looking through the comments online, Feng Yi received a new message.
Feng Chi: "I left the car in the warehouse."
After filming the variety show, Feng Chi promptly returned the oversized toy car to Feng Yi’s warehouse. He dared not keep the car in his possession for long, as many people sought to use their connections to borrow it for play. To avoid further unnecessary trouble, Feng Chi hurriedly sent the car back.
This time, Feng Yi didn’t go to the warehouse to watch over it, he simply told Feng Chi to deliver it, knowing that someone would be there to open the door.
Jia was assigned to receive the goods at the warehouse and, while there, to also check the security system.
Feng Yi: "You weren’t summoned by the old master for a talking-to?"
Feng Chi: "After he lectured my dad, he wouldn’t come after me. The old master just needed to show that attitude, he’s too busy now to care about my small issues."
Feng Chi: "All his energy is on the new ancestral hall. The one on Xiao Feng Mountain has been relocated, along with the graves. The new ancestral hall is especially grand [Image], but I feel the old master doesn’t really respect our ancestors that much. It’s more like a facade."
Feng Yi opened the photo to take a look. The image of the new ancestral hall was a bit blurry, the angle poorly chosen, giving off a rushed impression; it was clearly a sneak shot, but it was evident that it was much larger than the one in the original ancestral house.
Feng Yi: "This facade project really is magnificent."
Feng Chi: "The old master has already started planning the ancestor worship ceremony. He’s been waiting many years for this day, so he won’t waste time on me."
Feng Chi: "By the way, brother, how do you find the facial masks I sent last time?"
Feng Yi, looking at this message, involuntarily recalled the image of "Cat licking its paw and wiping its face."
He replied after a while: "Not bad."
Feng Chi: "I’ll send you another box! Not to brag, but there have been a lot of people applying for memberships at my mom’s place these past few days! Most of them are insiders, and these folks don’t hesitate to spend on their faces."
Feng Yi: "Didn’t you say the ingredients were limited?"
Feng Chi: "My mom snagged another batch successfully, she’s lucky, she managed to place another order! This batch has larger orders, and it can last for some time! Another company that went to order a bit later wasn’t so lucky, a step slow and they missed out on the goods altogether [Laughter]"
Feng Yi, puzzled: "Shouldn’t they have started mass production already? Still need to scramble for it?"
He had asked Geng last time, and Geng mentioned that product line was about to be mass-produced soon.
Feng Chi: "It is mass-produced, but it’s so popular that there are just too many buyers. Not only domestically, but also lots of overseas bulk buying. With so much competition, current production just can’t meet domestic and international demand!"
It didn’t surprise him that Feng Yi knew about the mass production; he’d told Feng Yi before that one of the key ingredients in the masks was a subsidiary product of the Ancestral Factory. He assumed Feng Yi had researched and followed up on this after trying the masks.
Feng Chi: "Bro, you’re underestimating the influence of Ancestral Factory. The average person wouldn’t pay attention, but those in medical and beauty fields are all eyeing this company, and given it’s extremely effective, of course it’s going to cause a frenzy!"
Feng Yi thought to himself: I haven’t underestimated it at all.
He could tell just by the increasing amounts in his bank account each month how popular the various products Ancestral Factory had begun selling were.
Feng Chi: "Free tomorrow? Let’s meet up, and I’ll bring you a box of masks."
Feng Yi: "I have a meeting tomorrow, a conference at the United Protection Bureau; I expect I’ll be assigned a task."
Feng Chi: "Alright then, I’ll just mail them to you."
Knowing that Feng Yi wouldn’t be leaving Yang City in the next couple of days, Feng Chi immediately chose a local courier service that could deliver the same day.
Otherwise, once Feng Yi went out for the meeting and got assigned tasks afterwards, receiving the goods would become much more complicated.
Feng Chi: "Use them as soon as you get them, the active ingredients lose their effectiveness over time, and then they’re no good."
Feng Yi’s gaze lingered on the phrase "active ingredients" for a moment before he replied: "Got it."
He then asked Feng Chi when the variety show would air and ended the conversation without further discussion.
These days, Feng Chi busied himself with his budding career. Conversations were mostly via text messages, not as laid-back as before.
Soon enough, Feng Yi received the masks that were mailed to him.
The box was bigger than the last one, not separate packets but a complete bottle, and the material of the box made it clear it wasn’t cheap. The packaging was well thought out. Just as Feng Chi said, the masks were targeted at SVIP customers, so the packaging couldn’t be subpar—it had to feel luxurious and expensive.
However, Feng Yi had no need for the masks; giving an entire box to him was a waste.
After some consideration, Feng Yi gave the masks to the butler.
When the butler heard that one of the mask’s ingredients was a subsidiary product of Ancestral Factory, he understood and his smile deepened as he gladly accepted the gift.
The next day, Feng Yi went to the meeting.
It was a conference about climate and disaster issues.
The attendees were mostly experts from the United Protection Bureau, along with some internal members of the bureau.
Steve also attended the meeting.
Looking over the climate-related materials distributed, Steve said to Feng Yi:
"These small climate fluctuations have resulted in abnormal rainfall in some areas this year while others are suffering from severe drought. The map shows many drought-stricken regions. The United Protection Bureau’s inspection teams have been working overtime this year. If you hadn’t taken on the sea serpent assignment first, I guess you would have been assigned to assist with other inspection teams by now."
Feng Yi also reviewed the materials and asked, "What about you?"
Steve closed the documents in his hand: "Me? I don’t plan to take on any assignments for the next couple of months unless it’s something really urgent and they need my help."
Steve’s current focus was on his conservation organization, which was under construction. The work had just begun, but he had to secure many things in advance, including contacting suppliers. He personally checked many materials, leaving no room for negligence, and he also had to pre-order breeding equipment, among other things.
However, because of Feng Yi, Steve’s burden had lightened considerably, allowing him more time to pursue his dream.
With this thought, Steve looked at Feng Yi with a hint of guilt, "You won’t get a chance to slack off. Once this meeting’s over, someone will probably approach you. It’s a great opportunity to rack up some achievements. Work hard!"
After a pause, Steve added, "Insect repellent, sunscreen, oh, and a large water bottle! Get yourself a sturdy, drop-resistant big water bottle, it’ll come in handy out there."
He patted Feng Yi’s shoulder sympathetically, "Prepare for some tough times ahead!"
Feng Yi responded with a smile.
To be honest, I’ve already lost a few layers of skin.
