Chapter 257: Chapter 194: Wallet Replenishment_1
Wu started to offer words of comfort, but upon seeing Feng Yi’s smug expression, he abruptly swallowed them back.
The thought processes of this boss seemed overly erratic to the point that it was hard to keep up with his logic.
Since it was their first meeting with Feng Yi, Ji and Geng had a very limited understanding of him. No matter what they thought inwardly, they still showed respect to the boss on the surface without any hint of dissension.
Feng Yi’s smugness quickly subsided.
He felt proud, indeed. The poison glands were proving to be reliable! In times of peace, there’s still a place for force. With powerful functions, they could contribute and make money. Why shouldn’t he be proud?
However, he was well aware of the risks and hidden dangers involved and regarded them with due importance.
Thus, Feng Yi asked Ji and Geng a series of questions, hoping to prevent some unnecessary trouble in advance.
Laboratory security, confidentiality, safety during research, whether anti-venom serum was needed, and matters concerning the future product lines and production—although he was an expert, it was essential to have a clear understanding.
Ji and Geng were cooperative. Managing a large company and a core laboratory, they wouldn’t have much time to visit Feng Yi, and they needed to start dealing with the venom. Therefore, they planned to resolve any solvable issues during the meeting, which actually reassured them. This showed that Feng Yi was taking the matter seriously, and wasn’t just in it for the money or planning a quick cash grab.
Feng Yi called Yi over to discuss the agreement and draft the contract. This was when Yi’s expertise was needed.
Essentially, this was tantamount to an important collaboration. Choosing a method beneficial for both Feng Yi and the Ancestral Factory would lead to a win-win situation.
The negotiation continued until after eleven o’clock at night.
Bing brought over some late-night snacks, but everyone was in such an excited and agitated state that they didn’t eat much, though they drank plenty of tea and coffee. The tea leaves were provided by Mute Uncle, while Bing ground the coffee beans.
Most of the other food was consumed almost entirely by Feng Yi.
Ji and Geng noted this, but their expressions remained unchanged. Their smiles grew more genuine, conveying greater sincerity.
The more he eats, the stronger the poison must be!
When the discussion was nearly over, Ji and Geng prepared to leave.
Feng Yi initially thought of having them stay over for the night since it was already late, but they were still too exhilarated to feel tired. They had their own drivers—more than one—waiting for orders elsewhere, so all Jia needed to do was to take them there. If they were truly tired, they could rest in the car.
Before leaving, however, Ji turned to Feng Yi with an expectant look,
"May we take two vials of the newly extracted venom with us? I’d like to compare their activity levels with those previously stored."
It wasn’t an excessive request, but Feng Yi didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he carefully observed their emotional cues, not letting even the tiniest bit of information slip by.
In their eyes, Feng Yi just looked on silently.
In the hearts of Ji and Geng: Here it comes! Is this the legendary ’ability to see through one’s true thoughts’?
But since they harbored no ill intentions and were not at all nervous, their gaze did not waver under Feng Yi’s sharp (?) scrutiny.
Feng Yi reaffirmed that they carried no negative sentiments and then nodded, signaling Wu to head into the resting room.
Wu deftly passed the necessary container over and then drew the curtain, blocking Ji and Geng’s line of sight.
Ji and Geng: "..."
They observed Wu stationed there.
Wu responded with a polite smile.
The two reciprocated with the same kind of smile: Clearly, the boss trusts you more!
Ji noted the time, curious about how long it would take Feng Yi to extract the poison. Then he saw the curtain already being drawn back.
In Feng Yi’s hands were two transparent glass tubes, each filled with nearly five milliliters of venom.
Looking at Feng Yi, who seemed unperturbed and without any signs of strain, it was evident that this was not his maximum capacity for toxin extraction.
The two understood.
Very toxic!
Highly poisonous and in large quantity!
This was a good thing for them—a booster for their confidence in future collaborations!
Ji, holding a specially prepared storage case, quickly approached and took the two glass tubes from Feng Yi’s hands, carefully placing them into the case.
Geng moved closer, his face flushed, and grabbed Feng Yi’s now-free hand, "Boss, the tough work ahead is up to you!"
Under their eager gazes, Feng Yi’s face remained expressionless, his eyes sharp, "The same to you, you’ve got your work cut out for you as well."
As they were about to leave, Geng remembered something and said to Feng Yi, "Our Ancestral Factory has its own hospital, and we collaborate with others too. If you need any medical services and it’s inconvenient to visit public or other private hospitals, contact me. I can arrange it for you. You can also tell Wu; he knows what to do."
Feng Yi genuinely needed this service, as the Union Protection Agency often required medical certification for certain missions or when attending meetings and training sessions at certain places.
For now, Feng Yi was not planning to visit the Ancestral Factory’s private hospital. He would observe a bit longer.
Jia escorted the two to a predetermined location. Just like when they arrived, Ji and Geng’s drivers were there waiting. After Jia dropped them off and returned, Ji and Geng were driven back by their own drivers.
In the car, Geng raised the partition, separating the backseat from the driver up front, who could no longer hear their conversation.
"This one, not that old, yet quite vigilant," Geng remarked.
"After all, it’s our first encounter, it’s normal to be guarded," Ji was very satisfied with Feng Yi’s performance.
"Exactly! Being cautious is more reliable. Though his temperament is a bit... contradictory and unfathomable, he’s not stupid."
"It’s just a pity we couldn’t see him extract the poison, nor did we witness his true form. This is somewhat disappointing, but it’s also within expectations."
Both of their faces reflected regret.
"Wu must have seen it, but Wu wouldn’t tell us."
One of the things private doctors need to adhere to is maintaining their employer’s privacy.
"There’s no helping it. When it comes to closeness, we definitely can’t compare with his private doctor. Unless he screws up big time, we really can’t compete," Geng said.
"Now I’m suddenly a bit envious of him."
"No worries, given enough time together, he will definitely see our sincerity and place more trust in us."
On the other hand, after the two had left, Feng Yi asked Wu about the private hospital run by that Ancestral Company.
Some time ago, when Wu discussed poison and anti-venom serum with Feng Yi, he mentioned that the underground lab lacked equipment and that some experiments needed to be conducted elsewhere, including at that private hospital.
A hospital operated by one’s own people would indeed better help Feng Yi keep his secrets. After all, Wu was just a private doctor, with strong comprehensive skills and some knowledge in everything, but not an expert in everything, unable to solve all problems. Sometimes a hospital was still necessary.
Feng Yi decided to learn more before deciding whether to trust them.
The first meeting was satisfactory, not because he didn’t trust Ji and Geng, but because Feng Yi had been betrayed before. Moreover, his own secret was at stake, making him even more cautious.
After chatting with Wu, the night was deep. Feng Yi let Wu rest, and he went upstairs to continue searching for information on that private hospital, as well as the hospitals Geng mentioned that collaborated with the Ancestral Factory. He took notes to observe and inquire more about them later.
After taking a shower, he lay in bed ready to sleep, but whether it was because of the surge of information he had received that day, Feng Yi was unusually alert and sat up again, deep in thought.
He thought about the poison gland matter, the Ancestral Factory, the words of Ji and Geng that day, and the "Ancestral S" and "Ancestral Y" they mentioned...
Soon, his thoughts shifted to his grandmother and her Mute Uncle.
According to the genealogy of their unusual family branch, his grandmother was the previous generation, and her uncle—and not necessarily a blood uncle—was of the generation before hers. Considering the age gap between Feng Yi and his grandmother, could that person be from an even earlier generation? All of these were possibilities, and no one could verify the events of that time now.
Feng Yi had also inquired about his great-great-grandfather from the butler, but he learned only a little, as the butler knew very limited details.
Although his grandmother was born in a troubled era, most of her life was peaceful. She established the Ancestral Laboratory and ran a huge company, so the stages of wealth accumulation were somewhat documented.
But his great-great-grandfather... seemed not to have poison fangs?
Most of his great-great-grandfather’s contemporaries lived through war-torn, unstable times.
This was strange!
People from wartimes didn’t grow poison glands, yet in times of peace, it seemed the more peaceful it was, the more venomous they became?
What kind of logic was that?
Feng Yi couldn’t get an answer to this question, nor did he have anyone to ask. As he mused over it, he fell asleep, tail coiled around him.
The next day, he woke up late and continued to search online for information about the Ancestral Factory and Ji and Geng, to see what outsiders thought of them.
In the following days, Feng Yi took Yi to handle some transfer procedures, all of which had been discussed with Ji and Geng the night before. Caught up in work, Feng Yi didn’t pay much attention to online activities.
One day, suddenly, Feng Yi received a call from Feng Chi.
Feng Chi was quite excited, "Bro! Old Man Feng has set the will!"
It was finally settled after such a long wait.
Feng Yi was not surprised; he had known about this for a while, having heard before the year’s end that Old Man Feng would set his will after the fifteenth of the first lunar month.
However, judging by Feng Chi’s tone...
"It looks like you got quite a bit," Feng Yi said.
"Hahaha, it’s decent, not comparable to the top few, but it’s plenty for me! All my acting was not in vain! Old Man Feng is pretty satisfied with me."
Speaking, Feng Chi’s voice grew heavier, "Old Man Feng... didn’t mention you. This amounts to a public declaration that you’re not part of the Yang City Feng Family!"
"It’s within expectations. I’m not interested in what he has, and if he doesn’t acknowledge me as part of the Yang City Feng Family, then so be it," Feng Yi said calmly.
"I thought Old Man Feng would give you a symbolic share out of concern for public opinion, but he was ruthless enough to leave you nothing! But with your abilities, you don’t need it. I saw the news from the fifteenth of the first lunar month, Yang City’s official media and united security bureau both released news, awesome! You’ve already made your mark! Unlike me, I’m not accomplished. I can only live off the old man."
Flicking his hair, Feng Chi sensed Feng Yi’s lack of interest in the matter and didn’t dwell on it. Instead, he talked about his plans, rubbing his hands together eagerly.
"I’m going to realize my idea first!"
"Which idea? The amazing idea you mentioned?" Feng Yi asked.
"Yes! I’ll keep it a secret for now, but it will surely shock you when the time comes! Hahahaha!"
"Take it easy."
"No worries! My wallet is full! Brother, if you ever need anything, don’t be shy with me!"
"No need, my wallet... is about to be full."
