Chapter 255: Chapter 193: A Single Flower Does Not Make Spring, a Garden Full of Blooms Brings Spring to Life_1

After dinner, Feng Yi sat in the resting room of the underground laboratory, flipping through some materials and asking Wu about a few things—related to Ji and Geng.

Previously, he had been shocked by the relationship between the Ancestral Laboratory and his great-grandmother. He knew little about Ji and Geng. The information in the tablet was limited, with only photos and partial introductions available.

Ji and Geng were around Wu’s age, one female and one male, respectively serving as the heads of the laboratory and the CEO of the Ancestral Factory.

"Those two," Wu adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose. When facing Feng Yi up close, he still preferred to wear his glasses for a greater sense of security.

When bringing up Ji and Geng, Wu’s words were not very enthusiastic. "A long time ago, the three of us were actually in competition until our respective directions were established and things eased. Now the collaboration is considered pleasant, oh, they are even more delighted—they’ve registered their marriage."

Feng Yi raised his eyebrows. He had intended to inquire about any emotional disputes behind this, but it was clear Wu wasn’t interested in discussing such matters. He even expressed regret at not being able to compete for the head of the laboratory position, "During the observation period of our training, I had stronger comprehensive skills but was lacking in specialization, so I was assigned to the position of private doctor. Ji’s comprehensive ability was slightly weaker, but her specialization was excellent, winning her the head position of the core laboratory. Geng was inferior to both of us in terms of research and academics, but he was better at management. Madam Feng decided our positions based on the results of the observation period.

"However, there’s something you, as the boss, should be aware of, ’The head of the laboratory is irreplaceable, while CEOs come and go.’ Even though Ancestral Company generally doesn’t make frequent changes in leadership, you should know that compared to corporate CEOs and vice-presidents, the head of the laboratory is more important. This position governs the core laboratory projects, and the core laboratory is the brain and heart of Ancestral Company!"

Feng Yi nodded, indicating he understood.

The Ancestral Company originated from the core laboratory, which is full of secrets that must be kept within trusted hands while still producing results. Multi-faceted assessments and observation were justified.

Wu was indeed more suited for the position of private doctor.

"Now, the composition of the massive Ancestral Factory is even more complex, but no matter how complex, the company is still controlled by that couple, or in other words, by trusted people—there’s no need for you to worry about that," Wu commented.

Feng Yi had read the first part of this statement in the files on his tablet. The Ancestral Company’s stance towards investors and collaborators was clear: investing was acceptable, collaborations were welcomed, but the contracts were arranged so that outsiders would have minimal control over the company.

As for the second part, whether Ji and Geng were "one of us" and could be trusted was something he would need to determine after meeting them in person.

To avoid complications, Ji and Geng did not carry the Feng surname. But Feng Yi wouldn’t label them differently based on whether they had the Feng surname or not—it had no bearing on trust.

In Yang City, under the cover of night, a low-profile private car drove into the city area.

A man and a woman, who appeared to be about Wu’s age, were seated in the driver’s and passenger’s seats, respectively.

"What kind of person is this boss really? You’ve communicated more with Wu—did he mention anything?" Ji fiddled with the electronic documents in her hands and then closed them, feeling unusually restless.

Before Feng Yi made his decision, they could not have contact with him. Even though there were certain discussions about Feng Yi online, they knew that such public information could not be relied upon.

When this question arose, Geng was equally puzzled, "Wu’s initial impression of the boss was that he was shrewd, wise, and composed. But soon after that, when speaking with him again, he noticed a change in his attitude, describing the boss as complex and contradictory."

"Why is that?"

"I don’t know; he wasn’t willing to say too much. Perhaps we’ll understand better after we’ve met the new boss ourselves."

A moment of silence.

Ji sighed softly, "Our teacher once said, ’Do not lie to them lightly. Even with perfect acting skills, they can easily see through the thoughts in your heart.’"

"Their race’s special abilities?"

"Perhaps."

"I have no intentions of deceiving him. Anyway, our interests are linked with those of the boss. If we don’t betray him, he won’t feel any animosity towards us."

"I’m really looking forward to discovering how many secrets are hidden in the enhanced version of the venom. It’s going to be quite the challenge!"

"Didn’t Wu tell us? The sample provided could be an upgraded version, very different in toxicity from the previous one, more complex, more intense, making the research significantly more challenging."

While they spoke of the great difficulty and the challenge, both of their eyes shimmered with anticipation and excitement.

One was for the soon-to-be-obtained research material.

The other was for a vast future interest network.

Before long, the car drove into a residential complex, and not much later, another car left, heading towards Cui Lake District.

The driver was Jia, who had picked up the two at the designated location.

Jia knew these two were technically his new colleagues, but their roles were different, and they didn’t carry the Feng surname.

An hour later, the two arrived at Feng Yi’s residence. After greeting the butler, they went down to the underground laboratory to meet their new boss behind the scenes.

Geng approached Feng Yi with enthusiasm, taking large strides and extending his hand for a shake, "Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you for the first time. I’m Yue Geng Yang, the CEO of the Ancestral Factory, code-named Geng. You can call me Geng directly! I’m truly honored to serve you!"
