Chapter 211: Chapter 179: Holding Back a Big Move_1
"How exactly does this tooth replacement occur?" Feng Yi asked.
The butler pondered for a moment; one could hear the sound of pages turning and sense that they were also quite perplexed.
It took a while before the butler said, "You’ll have to discover that on your own, after all, the reference material I have here only covers the replacement of small grooved teeth. Moreover, your tooth replacement period has come earlier than I expected."
What that meant was: there was no reference material for his large tubular teeth.
This matter stumped Feng Yi.
"Then... how do the grooved teeth mentioned in the materials replace themselves?" Feng Yi asked further.
"A new pair will grow in and then take the place of the old teeth," the butler said.
Meaning, the old teeth would fall out only after the new ones had grown in.
Feng Yi looked in the mirror and protracted the pair of large tubular teeth he had kept retracted. Clearly, there wouldn’t be sufficient space to grow a new pair side by side.
"I probably won’t adopt this method," Feng Yi said.
"Hmm, that’s what I think too. So, you’ll need to observe and pay attention on your own," sighed the butler.
Feng Yi pondered, the butler had said "tooth replacement," which meant if it were due to external factors, the old teeth would have some damage, or they were no longer sharp enough to pierce prey’s skin, impeding their function, and so new teeth would grow to replace them.
However, Feng Yi’s situation was different. He hadn’t even used them, and in order to harvest venom, Feng Yi took even greater care of his teeth, brushing them earnestly every morning and evening. So despite being hidden in his mouth, there was no plaque or tartar, clean and spotless.
There was no way they were damaged.
As for hunger causing it, he was actually able to endure that recently, not as badly off as he was during the initial academic examination.
Alternatively, could it just be that the time had come for tooth replacement, and environmental and situational stimuli led to the change?
Whatever the case, the change had indeed begun, and once it had a direction, it wouldn’t stop until this phase of change was completed. This process couldn’t be paused.
"Do I need to be mindful of anything during the tooth replacement period?" Feng Yi asked.
"...Pay attention to nutrition."
This sounded a bit like a platitude, since Feng Yi wasn’t daring enough to eat freely while outside, and due to the buzz of trending searches, quite a few people were watching him. Moreover, his results in capturing pythons had been very impressive. He was not only being watched in the residential area but also possibly targeted by other contestants in the swamp. Now he could only sneak bites of compressed biscuits while hunting for pythons or wait to have an extra meal back at the hotel.
"Or you could just drop out," the butler suggested.
After all, Feng Yi’s health was undoubtedly the most important thing; money and points could be earned later.
Feng Yi certainly wouldn’t joke with his own health, and he knew this change was significant, but he had his own considerations.
"How long is the tooth replacement period likely to last?" Feng Yi asked.
"The records say within a month, but I don’t know if your situation might require more time," the butler replied, aware that Feng Yi had been busy with lab work, "You won’t need much energy at the beginning, so you have time to think it over."
"Mhm."
"Try to eat as much as you can. Fortunately, the compressed biscuits Bing made for you are well-prepared with nutrients. Rely on those for now. When dining out, eat more fresh food and order some more when you get back to your hotel room."
"Yeah, I know," Feng Yi said.
"And if you feel like chewing on something, go ahead and chew more," the butler advised.
"Got it."
The old butler sighed on the other end of the line; despite his lack of fondness for large tubular teeth, he cared about Feng Yi deeply and could only offer suggestions, then respect Feng Yi’s decisions. Had he known about the early onset of Feng Yi’s tooth replacement period, he would have recommended Feng Yi drop out of the event. But unfortunately, there were no ’ifs’.
After the call, Feng Yi sat stern-faced on the chair, raised his hand, and chewed thoughtfully on his thumb.
Right, he needed to chew on something harder.
He took the dining menu from the hotel room and flipped through it.
Some species were on the protected list, some animals’ consumption was restricted, and former delicacies from the state of F were not necessarily edible now. However, Feng Yi wasn’t too particular about that.
Flipping through the dining menu, there wasn’t much that satisfied Feng Yi.
"This meat is too soft... this meat is too thin..."
He flipped back and forth, ordering items with big bones and hard shells.
To grind his teeth.
When the meal arrived and he had pacified his poor stomach, Feng Yi played with a seashell, cracking away while pondering matters.
With tooth replacement came the strengthening of his venom glands, which he could just about feel.
But whether the enhancement of his venom glands and fangs was a good thing, Feng Yi didn’t know.
What use were sharper fangs or more potent venom to him?
He couldn’t eat any more "food" since they were all protected by local laws.
In fact, it might just mean more restrictions and limitations in his daily life.
If it were bodily enhancement, be it muscles or bones, that would be fine, or even his tail, but why the venom glands!
His body wasn’t weak at all!
Feng Yi mused deeply.
Could it be that since he didn’t release his tail, the body made the same choice as before, to strengthen the venom glands?
If it was focusing on strengthening the venom glands, would the enhancement of other areas of his body have to be postponed?
Every enhancement required a substantial amount of energy to support, so the less utilized parts would go into energy-saving mode?
No wonder he felt his tail had been rather well-behaved.
Feng Yi switched to another seashell and continued his relentless gnawing.
Actually, if he looked on the bright side, the enhancement of his venom glands was better than some other strange changes.
