Chapter 201: Chapter 165 I Don’t Understand, But..._2
But even so, it was not easy to obtain the most precise data. However, these were sufficient, and there was no need to expend effort on irrelevant details.
Cheng Si was in a good mood, "I was also surprised when I saw these data. Before, other media outlets boasted about various elite teams, experienced hunters, husband-and-wife combinations renowned in the circle, and brother-and-dog duos as if they had a golden touch. In the end, it’s still Feng Yi... Brother Se is the most badass!"
"What a pity though! I didn’t get to follow them and film today!"
If he had known that Feng Yi and Steve were only scouting the route today and not actually catching pythons, he would’ve shamelessly tagged along once more!
"How many did they catch? Brother Se caught 7 pythons on the first day... not giants, they were just familiarizing themselves with the route... Yes, I would have followed along if I’d known, I’m regretting it now... Tomorrow won’t work, I’ve just messaged them and got rejected, they’re starting the official hunt for giant pythons... No way around it, it’s a realm for the experts, I still need more practice..."
Cheng Si interacted with the audience in the live stream, answering questions as best as he could, but to avoid causing trouble for Feng Yi, he referred to him by his nickname when he spoke about him.
What Cheng Si did not know was that Feng Yi’s name was already gradually spreading.
The next day, Cheng Si paid close attention to Feng Yi and Steve and found that they took a different route from yesterday, indicating that they had other plans, so he gave up on following them.
When Steve saw Feng Yi in the morning, he immediately started complaining, "Director He told me to take you to fewer strange places!"
Steve’s first reaction to Director He’s words was that he hadn’t been leading Feng Yi astray!
Little did he know Director He was referring to Feng Yi’s shoes.
"I didn’t notice yesterday, but are those shoes of yours any good? They don’t seem sturdy or durable. Do you want to borrow mine? I brought spares. What size do you wear?"
Feng Yi declined, "No worries, I’ve brought a spare pair of boots, they’re quite sturdy. It was just an accident yesterday. I’ve explained this to Director He."
"Explaining won’t help, the old man won’t listen... That guy is like..."
Steve recounted Director He’s past behaviors all the way until they boarded the boat.
The departure point they chose today was different from yesterday’s, and also different from most other teams’. They had decided on this after setting their target route.
After explaining the route to Warren, Warren thought for a moment, recalling the swamp areas he was familiar with, before saying, "I roughly understand, we’ll start and ask you again when we reach an uncertain area."
Warren was fully prepared today, determined to capture footage of Feng Yi catching pythons!
When he told his colleagues and friends about it yesterday, they didn’t believe him! They said Warren was exaggerating and bragging!
Videos of Feng Yi catching pythons could still be found online, but claiming you could just randomly pull out a python in the wild? That was just ludicrous nonsense!
Anyone living in Florida knows how tough it is to catch pythons, especially now during the dry season!
Warren felt as wronged as a manatee with its mouth tied shut.
It was indeed true!
Helpless without photographic evidence, he could only hope to capture it today.
The boat moved over the water, but because there were so many people out at this time, they couldn’t pick up speed. However, Feng Yi and Steve were not in a hurry. Steve continued to analyze information about the swamplands while Feng Yi eyed the surroundings with envy. He couldn’t fully indulge in playing around, but taking in the sights was always an option.
After traveling for a while and seeing no one else, Warren slowed down the boat.
"What’s going on?" asked Steve.
Feng Yi looked in a certain direction, "Over there, there are people, looks like they’ve encountered an alligator."
Four people stood there, looking over with noticeable changes in their faces from anticipation to disappointment.
By then Steve could also see the situation over there.
Four people, three on one side, and one standing in the water, with an alligator approaching four meters long laying between them.
"Feng Yi?" one person called out.
"Do you know me?" Feng Yi responded.
"My name is Pan Weining, a friend of Zhai Yiyu. I saw you yesterday at the security checkpoint. Can you help us out?"
Pan Weining wasn’t too sure himself. Zhai Yiyu had only told him to find Feng Yi if they encountered pythons, as Feng Yi was very skilled at catching them, but he hadn’t mentioned what to do if they ran into a big alligator!
Their team had returned empty-handed the day before, but instead, they found several suitable spots for fishing. Someone suggested bringing fishing rods to fish for fun if they failed to catch pythons – the event didn’t specify you couldn’t fish while searching for pythons in the area.
After deciding, they also invited a fishing buddy. Pan Weining thought, since the event was still ongoing, he could look for pythons nearby while the others fished.
After scouting for suitable fishing spots in the dry-season marshland, we settled on a remote area, free from other people’s disturbances. We rented fishing rods and other gear and got here early in the morning to stake out our spot, preventing any other amateur teams from taking it.
The pond was still fairly calm, and even if there were crocodiles in it, that wouldn’t be a problem. This area was home to the mugger crocodile, not the American alligator.
Now wasn’t their breeding season, so the crocodiles weren’t very active. As long as you didn’t get too close to the banks or enter the water, there wouldn’t be a problem.
During the event, there were restrictions on certain fishing tools, and those capable of inflicting harm were not allowed.
We didn’t expect that we’d catch a fish but fail to land it before a large crocodile charged out.
It not only rushed onto the bank but also chased after them.
One of Pan Weining’s cousins tripped and fell into the water by accident. Pan Weining and a few others wanted to rescue him, but the large crocodile was blocking their way. They tried various methods to distract it, but to little effect. Instead, the crocodile seemed to grow angrier.
"We’ve already made a distress call, but... we’ll have to wait a bit longer."
The rescue team from the organizers would give priority to the expert team. Several expert groups didn’t return last night; they were conducting research in the marshland and encountered some trouble this morning. The rescue team went to assist them, so our situation couldn’t be immediately addressed.
Furthermore, the attitude of the rescue personnel here towards amateur teams like Pan Weining’s, who had paid to participate, was somewhat perfunctory. To those people, their situation didn’t seem particularly urgent.
At times like this, the advantage of being an expert team was evident. Amateur participants would have to wait.
Pan Weaining paid extra to bring in someone from a private rescue team, though it would take them a bit longer to arrive.
There was more than one amateur team, and many of them, lacking in skills, were adept at causing trouble.
But this wasn’t really them causing trouble, right?
If it were just a two-meter crocodile, Pan Weining could handle it himself, but facing a mugger crocodile that was over three meters long, nearly four, no one dared to try. Moreover, this particular mugger crocodile seemed different from most that he was familiar with: it was more easily angered, and it was now fixated on the person in the water. They had already witnessed its speed and now their only thought was to delay and wait for professional rescue.
When they heard the sound of a boat, they thought the rescuers had arrived, but it turned out to be competitors.
Steve and Warren were discussing how to handle the situation since they didn’t have professional crocodile-catching tools on the boat.
"We can attract its attention," Steve said.
"These guys have probably tried that too, but it didn’t work well. Not all mugger crocodiles are the same," Warren remarked, pointing. "We can check which one this is, there is a tag on its tail."
Steve took a photo and contacted someone from the research center,
That’s when Feng Yi said, "Let me go handle it."
"Can you do it alone?" Steve asked.
"Yes!"
Seeing Feng Yi’s certainty, Steve glanced at the situation on the other side and nodded, "Be careful."
Feng Yi disembarked and headed over.
Warren expressed his concern, "Normally, it takes several people to handle a mugger crocodile of this size, except for a few masters specialized in this. Are you sure about letting him go alone?"
"Don’t underestimate him; he has the strength to deal with a python on his own."
Even though he said this, Steve still took what limited tools they had on the boat, like ropes and paddles, and went over, just in case.
Warren followed suit, also intrigued. He knew Feng Yi was good at catching snakes, having witnessed it himself, but a crocodile was not the same as a snake.
Steve and Warren followed behind Feng Yi, curious to see how he would handle the situation.
And then they saw Feng Yi accelerate and...
A slide tackle!
Everyone: ???
What’s this maneuver?
Was he sliding right into the crocodile’s mouth?!
Steve: I don’t understand, but I’m deeply impressed!
