Chapter 194: Chapter 160 Palm Face_2
Cheng Si expressed his understanding. Allergies are indeed unpredictable.
Steve continued, "So, let’s spare this poor little thing."
Feng Yi raised his eyebrows. Listen to this, Steve calls the other snakes "little cuties," but he refers to this one as "poor little thing."
Steve sighed, "I’d rather see them burrowing in the wild than in a terrarium."
Overall, Steve wasn’t particularly interested in this creature, noticing that old Josh had finished filling out the visitor registration form, he asked, "Josh, can I go see those big lovelies that your cousin is keeping?"
Old Josh’s cousin was also a researcher here, but Josh was inclined towards crocodiles, while his cousin’s research leaned more towards snakes, especially those large venomous ones and huge pythons.
"Of course." Now that he had finished the visitor registration form, old Josh led them deeper into the facility.
Inside were several small enclosures, most of them housing venomous snakes.
In one of the rooms, researchers were extracting venom from the snakes.
Steve’s eyes lit up, "Looks like we arrived just in time! Need any help?"
Cheng Si looked inside, where mostly adult, large venomous snakes were kept, like the Eastern diamondback rattlesnake a researcher was holding—a species found in the big marsh. The one before him seemed to have been raised for quite some time. With snakes of this size, he could tell they were a handful.
He looked at the other enclosures nearby.
There were Gaboon vipers, Rhinoceros vipers, Black mambas, and others.
Then, looking to another side.
"Ah, this one! Is this little Qing?"
He moved closer to check the label on the enclosure, Mount Mang Pit Viper, no mistake about it.
"Feng Yi! Brother Yi! This one is almost as big as the one you caught, right? What do you think the difference is between captive and wild?" asked Cheng Si.
"A bit fatter," replied Feng Yi.
"..."
Cheng Si decided not to dwell on whether little Qing was chubby or not; his attention was captured by a big fatty snake.
"A Gaboon viper! No, wait, it looks more like a Rhinoceros viper, with the Gaboon viper in the enclosure next to it. Those plump vipers truly do offer a different visual impact!"
The visual impact of slender snakes compared to thick and short ones was indeed different, especially the plump viper in front of them in the enclosure, which appeared like a giant caterpillar and must have been raised for many years.
But regardless of how fat they looked, they were still dangerous creatures made of pure muscle.
All the types that Cheng Si could not handle confidently.
Over there, Steve had just finished handling a snake, extracted its venom, and was asking a researcher who was next, then he said to Feng Yi, "Next up is KC (King Cobra), wanna give it a try? That one over there."
Feng Yi followed the direction Steve was pointing, "Okay, I will."
He knew Steve wanted him to show off a bit to secure more resources from this research facility.
Cheng Si stepped back, leaving more room for Feng Yi to work, his eyes focused on the scene, the camera in his hand switched on, capturing precious footage for the day.
"That King Cobra is over four meters, right? Really cool! Looks as sleek as a fake snake!"
Steve was also looking with intense fascination, "Look, its dignified posture! Its wise eyes!"
Another researcher nearby commented, "Such a marvellous species! A king’s heart, not to be underestimated!"
Feng Yi approached, his hand a blur, seizing the King Cobra and pulling it out of the enclosure.
After all, with a snake over four meters long, Feng Yi used his other hand to assist, holding the snake as he walked towards the experiment table.
As Feng Yi turned, he noticed everyone else was watching him.
One of the researchers was holding a snake hook, seemingly about to hand over the tool to him, with their arm already stretched out, frozen mid-air.
Old Josh, who was watching, had his mouth agape. He was just about to follow up with a poetic exclamation about KC’s kingly demeanor, but before he could even utter half a word, the show was already over.
Feng Yi’s relaxed and casual posture didn’t seem like he had just captured a globally infamous giant venomous snake; it was more like he was holding a long scarf!
How were they supposed to go on singing his praises now?!
They thought Feng Yi would take this opportunity to show off his snake-handling skills with the snake hook. Many visitors here would love to have this experience, as it’s not often one gets the chance. The researchers were also ready to showcase their snake-breeding abilities—not just anyone can raise a King Cobra over four meters long!
Guest interaction, mutual business flattery—that’s what love is all about!
But who knew Feng Yi wouldn’t play by the rules, going in barehanded like that!
Their prepared remarks were left unspoken!
Cheng Si’s camera didn’t miss the researchers’ reactions, and suppressing a laugh, he gave Feng Yi a gesture, silently saying, "Awesome!"
Feng Yi had caught King Cobras before, wild ones at that, and although this one was bigger than the ones he had caught in the wild, being captive-bred, it wasn’t as fierce. He hadn’t thought it a big deal until he saw everyone staring at him. Feng Yi looked at the snake in his hand; it was, indeed, a King Cobra.
"Do you need to extract the venom?" asked Feng Yi.
The researchers snapped back to reality, "No, we only record the spontaneous venom discharge when they’re attacking. No need to squeeze the venom glands."
This King Cobra was particularly vicious when biting into the venom extraction device, furiously injecting venom into the glass container as if it were desperately trying its utmost, a stark contrast to its previously calm demeanor.
Cheng Si shuddered at the sight of the venom quantity. Getting bitten by that...
After the King Cobra, Feng Yi caught a few more snakes, and then Old Josh led them to the python area. However, this time the researchers’ attitude towards Feng Yi was much warmer, even exchanging contact information.
The python enclosure was larger, decorated into individual small rooms, making Cheng Si feel as if he’d entered a reptile house at a zoo.
The green anaconda’s head rested on a branch, its cold eyes fixed through the glass, its forked tongue flicking in and out.
Cheng Si asked Feng Yi, "It’s staring at me. Do you think it’s zoning out, contemplating, or maybe thinking about something not very nice?"
Feng Yi glanced over and responded, "Compared to contemplating or other possibilities, I’m more inclined to believe it’s just zoning out after a good meal."
Cheng Si sighed with relief, "These large snakes are quite frightening up close. Feels like they could easily swallow me whole."
Cheng Si, controlling the camera in his hand, walked towards the python’s area.
Anacondas are different from pythons and the area was divided accordingly. Besides the green anacondas, there were also yellow anacondas, red-tailed boas, and others, but Cheng Si wasn’t too interested in those.
Steve pointed towards several large enclosures on the inside for Feng Yi to see, "Those over there are the main focus of our event this time."
Feng Yi walked over, memorizing the distinct scents of the various pythons to better differentiate them when entering the great marsh.
Cheng Si stood in front of an enclosure, "Are these the super-species that have emerged from the swamp by the top guns of the python genus?"
Steve, rarely ever serious, nodded, "Yeah, quite dangerous creatures."
Cheng Si, taking pictures, said, "The head doesn’t look big, but the trunk could easily fit me."
Steve nodded in agreement, "Right, baby-faced with plump lips, they look cute, but can swallow a deer whole."
Feng Yi, Cheng Si: "..."
Where the hell is that cute?!
Don’t just say anything!
Cheng Si couldn’t bear to face the description of "baby-faced with plump lips" anymore, knowing Steve always got weird around reptiles. So, he turned slightly to talk to Feng Yi.
"This python looks like it’s zoning out, just like the anaconda we saw earlier. What do you think it’s thinking about?"
Feng Yi hesitated for a moment before saying, "I believe it might be harboring some... unmentionable malice."
