Chapter 166: Chapter 136 Big Girl_1
With the butler’s "heavy love," Feng Yi, Jia, and Ding headed to the resort to coordinate work, filling out forms, signing names, and all that.
Having slept in this morning, Feng Yi hadn’t had breakfast, so he hadn’t read the butler’s organized "Morning News" and hadn’t paid attention to the trending topics online. However, on the way to the resort, Feng Yi saw the push notifications on his phone.
It was an official report which also cleared up some rumors, such as the absurd claim of a twenty-meter-long snake.
The official news wasn’t very detailed in some areas, and by the end, it only mentioned that the origin of the large python was still under investigation.
But from the language used in the report, Feng Yi felt that the investigation must have made some progress.
The resort was busier during the day than at night, and the visitors near the lake were all talking about the big python that appeared by the lake last night. The area around the lake where the snake was captured was still cordoned off, with relevant personnel conducting follow-up investigations.
Feng Yi didn’t look in that direction much, and after parking the car, he and Ding headed to the address Wei Hongxun had given.
"Brother Yi?!"
Someone called out to him from not far away.
Feng Yi looked toward the voice.
Bai Lu and a few young people were huddled together talking about something. Seeing Feng Yi, they got especially excited and jogged over.
"I thought I was seeing things just now! Brother Yi, did you come here after seeing the news?" Bai Lu asked.
He had previously invited Feng Yi to join him at the resort, but Feng Yi had said he was busy. Bai Lu did not expect to see Feng Yi here.
"No, someone else asked me to come." Feng Yi replied.
"Oh, oh!" Bai Lu didn’t ask further, glanced at the few people coming up behind him and introduced them to Feng Yi, "This is my pal Mo Xiaoguang, and his friends. Last night, they were the ones who encountered that big python, had a close encounter wow!"
Feng Yi greeted them.
Bai Lu wanted to share with Feng Yi the "frightening moment experienced by Mo Xiaoguang and his friends," as no one knew better than them what had happened near the boardwalk last night.
But Feng Yi didn’t have time to listen to these tales.
"I’ve got other things to take care of, I’ll go ahead."
"Sure, Brother Yi, go ahead with your stuff,"
Seeing Feng Yi quickly moving toward the restricted area, Bai Lu called out again to remind him, "Brother Yi, you can’t go there right now..."
While he was speaking, he saw Feng Yi take out a credential and show it briefly to the security personnel there before continuing inward.
Feng Yi heard Bai Lu’s shout and turned his head, waving the credential in his hand as a sign.
Bai Lu: "!!"
Mo Xiaoguang stepped forward, "Is he the Feng Yi you told me about? The appraisal master your dad paid a high price for?"
"Yes! That’s him! Just not sure what he’s doing over there. I only know he’s an appraiser, but could that have something to do with this?" Bai Lu was puzzled.
Why would the person who appraised the snake bone bracelet be here? To appraise python bones? Wasn’t the python supposed to have been captured already?
Mo Xiaoguang hesitated for a moment, "I heard that the expert who captured the snake yesterday... his last name is Feng."
"Well... there are quite a few people with the last name Feng in Yang City, it can’t necessarily be him, right?"
"Ah well, whether it’s him or not, I still feel a bit of regret that I didn’t get to see that python last night. I heard it was someone’s pet, it’s quite docile, and doesn’t attack people on its own. I actually... wanted to touch it."
As Mo Xiaoguang reminisced about last night’s events, although he was mostly afraid, he felt a tickle of curiosity hearing others talk about it.
"If I hadn’t run so fast last night, it might have been a highlight of my life!" Mo Xiaoguang reflected.
"Or it might have been the last moment of your life." Bai Lu laughed heartily.
Since the event was over anyway, there was no harm in a little exaggeration.
Meanwhile, Feng Yi arrived at a quieter spot as directed by Wei Hongxun. There was an additional light van modified there.
Wei Hong Xun was working inside, along with two others who also appeared to be from the Joint Protection Bureau, busily organizing something on their computers.
Wei Hong Xun was flipping through several electronic documents, the area under his eyes dark and blue, indicating that he had not rested much the night before.
"You’re here."
Having experienced last night’s incident, Wei Hong Xun believed that he needed to reassess Feng Yi’s capabilities.
He had underestimated him before!
With the skill to catch a large python, they might need Feng Yi’s help again in the future. No one could match his efficiency!
"There are two forms over there for you to fill out, detailing the process of capturing the python. Just fill them in truthfully. The small stack remaining involves the python itself, as well as some other information that requires your confirmation. After you review them and find no issues, sign your name and fill in your appraiser’s license number."
"Has the origin of that python been traced?" Feng Yi asked.
"How did you know?"
"Just guessed. Given the Joint Protection Bureau’s efficiency, even if it hasn’t been traced, there would surely be significant progress." Feng Yi didn’t mention that he deduced it from the tone and wording used in the official news reports.
Wei Hong Xun smiled and spoke in a relaxed tone, "Pretty much."
The Joint Protection Bureau, in collaboration with several other departments, had stayed up all night working on the case, eventually leading them to a wealthy gentleman with the surname Feng, which also implicated many other issues.
"It was given to him by someone else. The python was already quite large when it came into his possession and had been kept in the basement of his villa for over ten years. Now, the python is over twenty years old." Wei Hong Xun did not go into specifics with Feng Yi, as there were other cases involved.
"Didn’t his family notice?" Feng Yi asked.
"They claim they didn’t know. Besides, that villa was a gift from his parents to him; it was his private property. He usually didn’t let others go there. The people left to care for the house were also in charge of looking after the python."
Wei Hong Xun yawned; after finishing work here today, he could leave. He needed to get a good sleep.
Feng Yi was browsing the documents on the small table.
Without immediately filling out the forms, in the small stack of documents that required his signature, there were two freshly printed photos. The smell told Feng Yi that these photos had not been printed long ago.
The two photos both featured the same python, and in one of them, the rearing environment of the python was visible. It was artificially arranged, and it was clear that the owner had put a lot of thought into it.
However...
"What is this?" Feng Yi picked up the two photos with his fingers.
"My colleague sent them over. He was in charge of investigating the origin of the Burmese python last night, while I handled this side. These two photos were uncovered from the pet owner’s computer. The owner had saved the photos and videos in a folder named ’big girl’."
Wei Hong Xun curled his lip, not quite understanding the psychology behind these people’s actions, with their "big girl"...
"The photos accompany that document. Take a look at those documents, and if there’s no problem, sign at the bottom," Wei Hong Xun said.
"I have a question," Feng Yi stated, holding up the two photos, "This ’big girl’ is not the one I captured."
The air went still.
Wei Hong Xun, who was getting a bit sleepy, was jolted awake by Feng Yi’s statement, his eyes wide open.
Seeing that Feng Yi did not seem to be joking, Wei Hong Xun asked, "Are you sure?"
Feng Yi replied, "Certain! The difference between these two is as obvious to me as between a pet cat and a Siberian tiger. I wouldn’t mistake them at a glance! This one," he said, pointing to the photo in his hand, "is a ’tiger.’ Look at its eyes; they are very cold and fierce!"
Wei Hong Xun rushed over, snatched the photos, and pulled up the photos of the python caught early in the morning to carefully compare them.
His eyes nearly popped out, but he couldn’t see any difference.
To him, both sets of eyes looked very cold and fierce.
