Chapter 162: Chapter 133 I Understand_1
Jia drove, assisted by Ding.
Wei Hongxun sent a location to Feng Yi, instructing him to drive directly there, where someone would meet him to prevent him from wasting time.
The resort area was now crowded with more people, and two small roads had been sealed off. The lake where the incident occurred was completely blocked, preventing unrelated personnel from approaching.
In the resort, those who hadn’t slept or who had been awakened in the middle of the night—and were sufficiently curious and brave—either watched live streams on their phones or ran nearby to watch the commotion.
Outside the cordon, many vacationers stood. They were curious about the python and yet fearful.
"They say it’s a huge python!"
"I heard it’s as thick as a pig!"
"That’s an exaggeration, it’s not that thick, but it’s definitely big!"
"Terrifying! My parents were unhappy to come out when they saw the police cars. Just now, I saw people going to check out."
"Checking out is too much, ah. That lake isn’t close to us, just don’t go there. It might not be as rumored, maybe it’s just a small snake. People these days overreact at the slightest provocation; give it some time, and the story will grow even more exaggerated!"
A few out-of-towners discussed, and a local interjected, "That might not be true; a big snake might really be involved. See that car up front? It’s from the Environmental Protection Agency. There’s no obvious sign on the car, but you can tell from the license plate that it’s theirs. And look at that one driving up—it’s from the Forestry Bureau. Middle of the night, and people from the Forestry Bureau and the Environmental Protection Agency are here; can it still be a small matter?!"
The others, unfamiliar with this, asked, "The car coming behind the Forestry Bureau’s, which agency is that from?"
"No obvious marks on the car, but looking at the license plate number..."
"What did you make out?"
"It’s a rich person."
"Uh... I can see that."
"Most likely it’s a family member of the involved party."
"Oh, I see!"
There were plenty of wealthy individuals, but considering the "agencies" present, not just anyone with money could meddle in such a situation. Therefore, the onlookers tended to think that the car following the Forestry Bureau’s was either there to help or belonged to the family of the involved party.
----
When Feng Yi arrived at the West Suburbs Resort, the Forestry Bureau personnel had just gotten there as well. Feng Yi directed Jia to follow the Forestry Bureau’s car in.
After inspecting the credentials and having received a heads-up from Wei Hongxun, the cars went straight into the cordoned area, all the way to the site of the incident.
The resort manager was waiting there. Hearing from Wei Hongxun that an expert had been urgently summoned, he hurried over to greet them.
He first saw the people from the Forestry Bureau.
The Forestry Bureau personnel got off the car with a serious demeanor, "We already understand the general situation. Has anyone been injured?"
The resort manager quickly replied, "No injuries! Those young people were just a little shocked, and they’ve been seen to. Some minor scratches have been treated."
"Who’s asking about them! The python! Is the snake injured?"
"It should... probably not."
The resort manager wiped the sweat off his forehead, but the Forestry Bureau personnel did not waste more words there. After asking for the precise location, they went to the site personally.
In fact, the Forestry Bureau personnel were relieved to know the four young people were safe, which is why upon arriving here, they inquired after the snake first. They were concerned the resort staff might have "taken care of" the snake privately, and by the time they arrived, they might not even find the skin. Upon receiving the news, they rushed over and first asked about the snake’s condition.
The resort manager’s attention turned back, and he asked Wei Hongxun, "Where’s the expert?"
He saw Wei Hongxun head towards the car that had followed the Forestry Bureau’s vehicle.
Feng Yi stepped out of the car with Ding following closely behind him, carrying a black toolbox.
Upon seeing Wei Hongxun, Feng Yi quickly scanned the surroundings and asked, "Are you the only one from the Environmental Protection Agency here?"
"The others will be here shortly."
Wei Hongxun didn’t elaborate. Recently, they had redeployed part of their staff to follow up on a major case. Today’s incident needed investigation first, temporarily being handled by him and another investigator.
"I’ve sent you the basic info; have you looked at it?" Wei Hongxun asked.
"I’ve seen it." Feng Yi sifted through the molecules in the air, too many, too much interference, "Let’s head to the scene of the incident first."
Wei Hongxun glanced at him, then turned to lead Feng Yi to the wooden boardwalk, filling him in on a few unhelpful pieces of information along the way. The limited monitoring cameras set up by the Department of Ecological Surveillance hadn’t recorded any abnormalities so far, but that didn’t mean the large python didn’t exist. Hence, it was still necessary to verify the python’s presence.
"That’s the situation, but searching is challenging at this time due to poor lighting."
While the incident location was part of a leisure wetland park under construction, much of the lake area remained undeveloped, lacking robust infrastructure.
Wei Hongxun checked the time, inclined to plan before dawn and act after. Actions now could be prone to mistakes and were inconvenient, and moreover, if there truly was a large python here, the workers nearby were in danger.
Even a tamed snake of such size, relatively docile, wouldn’t likely turn the other cheek when attacked. Now that it was night and human vision was limited, carelessly stepping on it could lead to being constricted if bitten. And if someone acted improperly and provoked it, triggering an offensive attack, that would be even more troublesome.
The resort manager, who remained silent by their side, spoke up, "We hope to resolve this before daylight. Mr. Feng, the expert, can you handle it?"
