Chapter 151: Chapter 124 Assessment Time is Slightly Long_1

Feng Yi thought to himself: Such an obvious piece of jade, a successful businessman like Bai Youwei couldn’t possibly fail to distinguish the material.

Indeed, he then heard Bai Youwei say:

"I know."

Bai Youwei untied the bracelet on the table and laid it out in a straight line.

"This is just a replica. I’ve prepared the jade and had someone carve it exactly like the original bracelet. I can’t carry the real snakebone bracelet with me everywhere, and even if I could, I wouldn’t want to. I don’t wear or play with items stained with blood."

Although he was a magnate in the food industry, Bai Youwei had his own principles. Slaughtering food was one thing, but wearing and handling was another. He didn’t fancy wearing something made from animal bones.

Feng Yi was puzzled. If Bai Youwei knew, then what was the purpose of coming for an appraisal?

"So what do you mean?" Feng Yi asked.

Bai Youwei pointed to the long strip of jade-carved snake bones on the table, "The original snakebone bracelet, most of that long chain comes from the same snake. But later on, some fake pieces were mixed in, or pieces from other snakes, making it difficult to identify. Without damaging or directly touching the snakebone bracelet, can you pick out which segments don’t belong to this snake? As for the genuine snakebones that come from the same snake, when strung into a chain, are there any errors in their sequence?"

Feng Yi thought for a moment, then replied seriously, "I can! But I have some conditions."

Feng Yi raised his index finger, "First, I need to see the real thing; that’s the only way I can make an accurate judgment."

Then he raised a second finger, "Second, it’s going to cost more. The kind of appraisal you’re talking about is somewhat troublesome."

----

Lu Yue and Bai Lu strolled around the courtyard and found that a corner of it had been rented out to a production crew filming a variety show. They lost interest after watching for a while and went downstairs to take a look around.

With the family backgrounds of the two, even if they didn’t live in a high-value, famous residential area like Lu Hai, their homes wouldn’t be shabby, and they had seen grander and more luxurious mansions than this more times than they could count on both hands.

Used to luxury, other things rarely caught their interest. Lu Yue viewed the added value of the place with a businessman’s eye, while Bai Lu worshipped each design through a thousand layers of filters, especially those he couldn’t understand. He always felt there were mysteries everywhere, surely with profound underlying meanings, a pity that his current abilities weren’t enough to decipher them.

After playing pool in the entertainment room on the lower floor for a while, Lu Yue, the more mature businessman, of course wouldn’t be addicted to playing such unprofitable entertainment activities with Bai Lu. Entertainment without purpose was a waste of time for him. While playing, he managed to get some information about various families in Yang City from Bai Lu’s mouth.

"Your dad has been here quite a while," Lu Yue noted, glancing at the time.

If the matter was settled, Feng Yi would surely come to find them. However, when the butler had brought them tea and pastries earlier, Lu Yue learned from him that the meeting upstairs was still not over.

Bai Lu also felt that it was taking a long time, but he understood his dad, "There must be something important. My dad is usually so busy, to stay here this long, there definitely has to be a reason."

After playing for a while longer, Bai Lu grew restless; he would rather go watch the koi in the ornamental pond. He hadn’t figured out those koi yet.

Lu Yue didn’t want to watch the koi, nor did he want to sit around waiting, so he picked up a cup of tea and sat in the courtyard to handle company business on his phone.

He was chatting with several executives when Bai Lu suddenly exclaimed, "Brother?!"

Bai Lu’s "Brother" certainly wasn’t calling Lu Yue or Feng Yi, but his own elder brother, Bai Jing.

Lu Yue looked up.

It was indeed Bai Jing! Logically speaking, with Bai Youwei here at this time, Bai Jing should be busy, as the larger the family and business, the more matters there were to attend to, and someone had to be in charge.

What important matter could it be, that prompted both of the most powerful individuals in the Bai Family to make time to come here?

Bai Jing merely glanced over in their direction, nodded slightly, then quickly walked into the house. He was carrying a black case in his hand.

"Didn’t your brother say he was very busy today?" Lu Yue asked.

"I... I don’t know, he should be very busy," Bai Lu replied.

With a puzzled look, Bai Lu, appearing somewhat serious, thought for a while but couldn’t figure it out. He then asked Lu Yue, "Feng Yi, is his appraisal ability really that strong?"

"Very impressive! Not the ordinary kind of impressive!" Lu Yue said. Ordinary people couldn’t appraise their company’s goods so thoroughly; others would probably need to take a good look or even use tools, but for Feng Yi, it might just be a matter of a single glance.

"So impressive!" Bai Lu had heard about Feng Yi’s appraisal abilities from Lu Yue before but thought they were just moderately impressive. However, if it were only moderately so, his father and brother wouldn’t have put aside their work to come over.

"Indeed impressive," Lu Yue thought to himself, considering how things were going, Feng Yi’s appraisal fee would have to rise in the future. Thinking back, the fee charged when there was no certificate was actually quite reasonable!

In the drawing room.

After Feng Yi made his requests, Bai Youwei pondered for a moment and then agreed. He then contacted his eldest son, Bai Jing, to bring the item personally. He didn’t trust anyone else for the job.

In the more than an hour’s wait, Bai Youwei elaborated on all his requests to Feng Yi. It wasn’t just about identifying the real from the fake, but also excluding the other misleading segments of bone that didn’t belong to that snake. If there were any errors in the sequence, they needed to be rearranged properly.

When Bai Jing arrived, he still smelled faintly of the kitchen, as he had been inspecting their family’s restaurant kitchen when he received Bai Youwei’s call.
