Chapter 147: Chapter 120 Despicable Wretch!_1

Feng Chi had been coveting a house in Lu Hai for a long time, and he never expected Feng Yi would actually be able to get one.

Thinking of something, Feng Chi’s expression changed, then he leaned in with a look of "I seem to have discovered a big secret."

"I got some news, the old man saw something last night, suddenly lost his temper, and smashed things around in his room. He even got so angry that he called his private doctor. According to reliable sources, the old man mentioned ’Lu Hai.’"

After glancing at Feng Yi, Feng Chi continued, "Why do you think the old man suddenly brought up Lu Hai? Could it be that someone knows you’re back in Yang City and staying there, then they told the old man?"

"It’s possible," Feng Yi said.

Feng Chi looked confused, "Actually, the old man had the chance to get a place there before, but he doesn’t like that area at all, gets angry whenever it’s mentioned. Do you know why?"

"I might know the reason, but I’m not sure."

"Spill it!" Feng Chi perked up.

Watching his reaction, Feng Yi suddenly remembered his own when he heard the butler mentioning the old lady and the old man’s affairs.

"Did you know the old man has a twin sister?" asked Feng Yi.

"Is it that aunt, the one nobody dares to mention in front of the old man?"

"Right!"

Feng Chi nodded, "I’ve heard of her, but I have no impression, never seen her."

"It’s said that the aunt had a bad relationship with the old man... The old man clearly had the opportunity to get a house in Lu Hai but didn’t make a move, probably because the aunt had a place there."

Feng Chi continued to nod; he agreed with Feng Yi’s analysis. If the two elders had a bad relationship, it could indeed explain why the old man always got in a foul mood at the mention of "Lu Hai."

However, Feng Chi also caught the key point of the earlier conversation.

"So, the house you’re living in?"

"Legally inherited."

Feng Chi took a deep breath, his eyes widening as he looked at Feng Yi, as if watching some incredibly lucky species.

"Why did the aunt choose you?"

Feng Yi touched his sharp chin, "Probably because I have a likeable face."

Feng Chi wanted to spit in his face. Everyone in the Feng family knew that Feng Yi was not favored by the old man, especially that face of his.

But Feng Yi also said, the old man and the aunt had a bad relationship; maybe the old man didn’t like him, but perhaps the aunt did?

It wasn’t impossible.

However, Feng Chi wouldn’t ask in detail; of course, he knew the aunt wouldn’t have given that house to Feng Yi for no reason. Perhaps she did like the look of Feng Yi, but that certainly wasn’t the main reason. There must’ve been some deal, just inconvenient to reveal. Of course, he didn’t want to know. The more he knew, the more troublesome and burdensome it felt to him.

Knowing that Feng Yi inherited the house from the aunt was enough.

"By the way, when you left the Feng Family, to curry favor with the old man, your parents claimed they wouldn’t give you a cent. Did they really not give you anything?"

"No," replied Feng Yi.

"Not even for tuition and living expenses?"

"No."

Feng Chi gave him a sympathetic look: "Your parents are really dogs."

Family resources are family resources, regardless of how they act in front of the old man, but privately they shouldn’t be so heartless, right?

Denying a just-adult child tuition and living expenses seemed too much... Oh, they had another kid, feeling the eldest was a lost cause and started to focus entirely on the younger one.

Not long after Feng Yi left the Feng family, his mother had another child, and Feng Yi knew about this.

Feng Chi wanted to console Feng Yi, but thinking about how his own family wasn’t much better, he suddenly felt exhausted.

"The old man’s health is getting worse, my mom told me to pay attention these days, behave well, and I might be able to dig... get more money out of him. Having been the family emperor for so many years, now everyone wants him to roll over and die so they can divide the inheritance."

Feng Chi swirled the water in the cup he was holding, watching the water form a vortex.

"I don’t have your guts to leave. I can’t stand the hardship. Being a leisurely son of a rich family, enjoying life without worries, regardless of whether I’m treated like a pig to be fattened up.

"Which school to read, what major to choose, which company to join, and what position to arrange... They decide, all I need to do is follow through."

Feng Chi was resigned to his lack of ambition, having made his choice, he would continue on that path.

Setting down the cup, Feng Chi looked around at the somewhat disorganized store, "When the time comes, I’m going to buy this place."

Fixed assets in hand were subject to scrutiny, and investigating this place would easily lead to more issues.

"Enough of that, though. Didn’t you mix in the entertainment circle as an actor before? Do you want to go back to that?" Feng Chi asked.

"I wouldn’t call myself an actor, just a minor role in a web series. Without works to support me, even if I became famous, I could only be considered an internet celebrity," Feng Yi said. "I’m done with the entertainment circle. I’ve obtained my appraiser’s license and will be working in this area in the future."

Feng Chi looked puzzled, "What’s an appraiser’s license?"

Feng Yi pulled up the electronic version of his license on his phone and passed it over: "This."

Feng Chi first looked at the official seal of the certification agency.

"There’s a stamp from administrative departments and the United Insurance Bureau!" As he looked, Feng Chi suddenly burst into laughter, "If you do this, they can’t touch you!"

After talking a bit more about these past years, they both yawned almost simultaneously.

A silence fell through the air.

"Let’s skip the meal and catch up on some sleep instead!"

Feng Yi also felt tired, not the usual nighttime weariness, but a sense that his body wasn’t performing as well as usual, easily sliding into negativity.

The two added each other using their secret contacts and exchanged several codes before Feng Chi went upstairs to sleep. He would continue his act somewhere else after getting some rest.

Feng Yi left.

The sun had risen, and the old, narrow streets of Yang City were becoming crowded with people setting up stalls, opening shops, hurrying to work and school.

Feng Yi didn’t immediately go back; he told Jia he was leaving and continued walking down the street.

Having watched city documentaries before, he knew that many years ago, this had been a prosperous area. However, as the city developed, a new center emerged in a different direction, turning this place into a suburban area, almost forgotten. But the times were changing, and soon, this area too would be demolished to make way for new buildings.

But the replacement of the old with the new was a concern for the future. For now, the street hadn’t changed much from what Feng Yi remembered.

Even if he encountered someone he had met before, they didn’t recognize him behind his mask, especially after six years had passed.

As the street grew crowded, Feng Yi walked towards the river on the other side. It had been six years since he last visited this riverbank.

Thanks to regular maintenance, the river looked clean, and the greening along the banks seemed better than it had been six years ago.

The trees were taller and more luxuriant, with benches added underneath them.

Feng Yi chose a bench not under a tree, stuffed his hands in his pockets, leaned back, and gazed at the river.

Across the small river were low but orderly houses and privately contracted gardens, bustling with activity.

The weather was fine, and the warm air carried a mix of scents—some pleasant, some not.

"Hey, kid, that’s our bench! Beat it!"

Not far behind Feng Yi, a group of five approached. The one who spoke reeked of alcohol and had a fierce, muscular face, exuding hostility from his eyes and posture, clearly no good Samaritan.

The five men closing in, regardless of their expressions, clearly meant trouble.

A surge of murderous intent suddenly welled up in Feng Yi’s heart.

He suspected the beast inside him was stirring again.

His pupils narrowed into slits, then widened again.

Feng Yi could feel the change in his eyes; possibly his emotions had gotten the better of him, allowing his eyes to shift freely. They had been restrained for so long that maybe they deserved a moment of liberation.

Ignoring the shouting behind him, Feng Yi waited for his pupils to return to their round shape, then stood up from the bench and turned to face the approaching men.

It was as if an invisible pressure had been released.

A breeze came off the river, bringing a touch of dampness and chill. The wind wasn’t strong, but it carried an eerie cold that raised the hairs on one’s neck.

One of the men shivered and zipped his collar higher.

They were puzzled—hadn’t the experts said that this year’s winter in Yang City would be mild? Winter hadn’t even arrived yet; how could it suddenly be cold?

But none of that mattered. They were intent on teaching this newcomer, who had taken their spot, a lesson.

Everyone living in the area knew they had claimed that bench. This young guy in front of them was obviously an outsider, perhaps visiting relatives or just passing through.

They weren’t interested in his story. They only knew that someone was in their spot and needed to be taught a lesson; otherwise, where would their face be? Especially with others watching nearby!

Feng Yi pulled his hands out of his pockets. He was in a bad mood today and might need to vent.

He had barely moved a step when he sensed something quietly approaching.

There was no sense of danger, just an instinct to raise his hand.

Whoosh—

A dark brown figure swooped down with the deadly aura of a predator on the hunt, claws gripping Feng Yi’s arm.

After steadying itself, the large bird stamped twice more on Feng Yi’s arm.

Though he wasn’t wearing an arm guard, his enhanced physique meant he didn’t feel pain.

At that moment, the five men who had been closing in jumped back several steps, showing extreme wariness. After their surprise, their eyes flickered, as if contemplating something.

The leader pointed at Feng Yi, his bloodshot eyes now devoid of ferocity, every blood vessel seemingly conveying anger. The lines on his face twitched with too much emotion, and his hand even shook a bit.

A roar echoed along the riverbank—

"Despicable and shameless! Have you no honor? You dare use a nationally protected wild animal!"

He didn’t know what species the bird was, but he was certain anything that looked like an eagle must be at least a national second-class protected species!

Fighting was one thing, but what if they hurt a national second-class protected species?

What a vile wretch! Pah!

Feng Yi looked at the bird clutching his arm.

Its appearance clearly indicated it was a raptor from the eagle family.

Upon closer inspection of its beak and feathers, he recognized the bird. He had seen it while scanning for species in the zoo, where staff explained that it had been found injured, brought to the zoo for treatment, and would be released back into the wild once recovered.

A national second-class protected species—Short-toed Snake Eagle.

Feng Yi: "..."

Damn.
