Chapter 120: Chapter 105 Incubation (Part 1)_2
Murals that had existed for thousands of years were eroded by wind and rain, partially weathered and damaged, but one could still faintly glimpse their former glory.
There were no dense forests here, no colorful flowers, only expanses of rock as far as the eye could see.
Proceeding further, there truly was no light at all.
Perhaps because the location was too hidden, there was little human traffic, and the ground was somewhat cracked in places.
The thick clouds in the sky blocked out the moonlight, deftly avoiding the ground fissures and pebbles.
As if pulled by a force, Feng Yi felt the energy particles that lay dormant within start to stir with the pull of this force.
Instinct urged him on.
Feng Yi’s speed continued to pick up.
He followed the winding narrow path of the gorge, heading toward its depths.
After an uncertain duration, Feng Yi stopped beside a pool that wasn’t particularly large but was much bigger than a swimming pool at a gymnasium.
Staring quietly at the pool, Feng Yi took a deep breath and dove in.
He was hardly restrained, and the cooler water temperature didn’t burden him, rather, he felt free and agile.
Guided by the Compass, Feng Yi moved like a fish, finding the rocky underwater passage beneath the pool.
"There really is an underwater passage!"
Feng Yi was astonished inwardly.
The underwater caves were like a complex network of veins, and in the pitch-black environment of the underwater caves, all his senses worked like precision machinery. Collaborating, Feng Yi had already formed a map of the veins in his mind.
Feng Yi swam through the water.
The Compass guided his direction.
The intricate underwater caves were like a bizarre labyrinth, designed to trap all who dared to enter.
The silent underwater caverns had claimed many skeletons, possibly belonging to adventurers who had tried to explore or others with different motives.
Some cave diving explorers say the underwater world is the most mysterious, exciting, and enthralling place on this planet, but also dark, enclosed, and extremely dangerous.
But such troubles did not manifest in Feng Yi, as the Compass he carried always guided him to the correct passage.
Forward.
The sound of the water being ripped apart broke the underwater silence.
Feng Yi darted through the water like an arrow.
His narrowed pupils gradually brightened, emitting a golden light that then ignited the radial fibers on his iris.
After swimming underwater for an indeterminate time, Feng Yi navigated through the complex web of the underwater network, along a rocky tunnel, until he burst forth to the surface.
After catching his breath, Feng Yi surveyed his surroundings.
There were rocks everywhere.
In the pitch darkness of the cave, many concealed air holes dotted the area, providing fresh air to breathe.
This place, whose age was unknown, conjured in Feng Yi the distinct feeling that the cave was not a natural formation.
"This is it!"
Feng Yi took a deep breath, followed his instinct, and assumed a relaxed, upright stance as he sank back into the water.
He didn’t need to try to control it; his body naturally floated below the water’s surface.
Only at this moment did his tense mood miraculously calm.
There was no anxiety, no sense of danger. It was as ordinary as eating when hungry or drinking when thirsty.
...
A low-profile multipurpose vehicle was parked at the entrance to the gorge.
In the car, on the back seat.
The old man had every hair on his head neatly in place, and the angle of his collar spoke of precision.
In front of his seat, several electronic screens displayed weather and celestial information from various media reports in different languages.
Every moment around the moon, changes occurred that were invisible to the naked eye. Most of the time, the moon was exposed to the high-energy particle stream ejected by the sun, also known as the "solar wind."
However, during the full moon phase, the moon would come under the protection of Earth’s magnetosphere.
The old man fact-checked with an old notebook, then seriously jotted down in a newer notebook, with a solemn expression:
[Full moon is out]
[No interplanetary shocks detected, solar wind stable, no significant deflection]
[Magnetosphere not deflected]
[Full moon moment protected by the earth’s magnetic field, magnetospheric environment stable]
[Conclusion: External hatching conditions are mild]
"The time and place are right; luck is on our side," the old man murmured.
He glanced at the time. It was eleven at night.
He then looked at the moon’s closest approach to Earth recorded in the notebook—
[0:30]
After recording the important time, the old man took out an object that resembled a pocket watch. Upon opening the lid, there was a pointer inside.
At that moment, as he opened the cover, the pointer trembled slightly, then pointed in a direction.
He had found Feng Yi’s location thanks to this pocket watch.
On the driver’s seat ahead, a strapping young man in black hesitated before speaking, "Uncle, I’m going to smoke a cigarette."
The old man didn’t look up, simply waving his pen-holding hand slightly towards the car window.
The driver’s seat young man carefully exited the vehicle, closing the door softly. Under the cover of night, he took a deep breath, and on his face, which had been well-maintained inside the car, anxiety was evident.
He pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one, and placed it between his lips but did not light it.
Gazing down the dark path of the gorge, he hesitated, then put the cigarette back in his pocket and briskly walked to the rear of the vehicle.
There was a shadow squatting behind the car, ceaselessly stuffing something into their mouth.
The young man walked over and gave a kick:
"Stop eating!"
The person squatting on the ground jumped up with a yelp, complaining:
"I’m nervous! I have to eat when I’m nervous! If I don’t have anything to eat, I’ll start biting my fingers, but my fingers are too precious to bite, so I can only snack on something."
