Chapter 110: Chapter 99 No Conditions? Then Create Conditions_1
"Don’t complain about the price. When I acquired this piece, it was already over seventy thousand, and with the transport cost, travel expense, and maintenance, it definitely exceeds eighty thousand.
"Plus, when I bought it, the seller mentioned that this zodiac coin has some years on it—almost a hundred, right? I’ve never really studied coins; what attracted me were the design and brand of this pendant. You’re paying for the design and brand premium."
"I understand."
Feng Yi certainly knew that designer pieces were expensive precisely because of their design. Zodiac coins like these aren’t actually worth much on the current market. He was only interested in the coin itself, but to buy it, he had to purchase the entire pendant.
"Do I pay at the cash register?" Feng Yi asked.
"It’s not for sale. You can just transact directly with me; a transfer to me will do."
Having spent two hundred thousand and now getting back eighty thousand, Yu Qiao felt somewhat appeased.
Of course, the reason she was willing to sell the zodiac coin pendant to Feng Yi was first, she felt that he truly had extraordinary appraisal skills and was worth befriending. With her collecting hobby, she might need Feng Yi’s expertise to assess future pieces she liked.
Secondly, she wasn’t that attached to this particular zodiac coin pendant. When she acquired it, she was interested in the original brand of the designer. She was very fond of a few items from this brand, and during the purchase, she got the pendant as part of the deal considering its unique design which would add to her status when displayed.
However, Yu Qiao noticed that Feng Yi’s attention was fixed on the zodiac coin on the pendant, showing no interest in the pendant itself or the designer brand.
"Do you like this kind of coin?" Yu Qiao asked.
"I am indeed quite fascinated by these zodiac coins," Feng Yi admitted.
"Then, I’ll keep an eye out for more like it when I go hunting for treasures and let you know if I find any."
"Thanks. But I don’t like every zodiac coin I see; it all depends on whether it feels right."
Feng Yi had indeed developed an interest in collecting zodiac coins, and he only collected those with a certain lineage.
Not every zodiac coin was related to his own. The ones without that lineage were probably just ordinary decorations without any collectible value.
Yu Qiao nodded, "I get it. Like with some bags, even if the style is similar, there are details that just don’t sit right with me. I won’t collect them even if they’re classic designs!"
Yu Qiao looked at Feng Yi as if seeing a kindred spirit.
Feng Yi: "..."
It was actually not the same.
But that was hard to explain.
After leaving the store, before returning to Yue Xiu District, Feng Yi made a call to his butler from the car.
"I just acquired a zodiac coin, and I feel it shares a lineage with the one I’m wearing. I sent you the photo already, take a look and see if you recognize it. The pattern on the coin is different from mine."
The butler spoke without much emotion, "It seems there were such designs, mostly coming from the Feng Family, made by the successors. What design to choose, what to cast, it’s all decided by the successor.
"Like you, if you succeed in evolving, you’ll also be responsible for casting zodiac coins to bless the younger generations."
Feng Yi was taken aback, "There’s... there’s such a duty? How do I cast them? What are these coins actually used for?"
"That’s not something you need to worry about now. Your focus should be on the upcoming critical phase! You should be able to feel that you’re about to reach that threshold."
"Is it like what you mentioned before about a concept similar to ’hatching’?" Feng Yi asked.
"Exactly. Only by truly passing the initial stage and evolving to the next can you actually be considered a successor. So, before that, don’t overthink it," the butler said with uncharacteristic seriousness.
However, Feng Yi understood the butler’s meaning.
Being concerned about drafting edicts before even succeeding to the "throne" is like trying to reach for the sky, isn’t it?
Overstepping might lead to stumbling.
But there was a question that had been troubling Feng Yi for a long time:
"So, why was I chosen?"
Being pleasing to the eye was far too thin a reason. As the matters of evolution progressed, Feng Yi increasingly understood that it couldn’t be so lightly explained by simply being "pleasing to the eye."
The butler’s answer was no longer as evasive as when they had first met, "Because you had the greatest potential for ’hatching.’
Laughing softly, the butler continued, "So, don’t belittle yourself, your talent and luck are both quite good. After Madam Feng, the Feng Family went through generations of selection, from the main to collateral lines, and in the end, they chose only you.
"Of course, don’t become arrogant or complacent. The path to evolution has countless possibilities, and each stage is a significant challenge. Your first critical challenge is coming soon—are you ready to face it?"
Under the butler’s words, Feng Yi tensed up again.
"Before, there was this feeling that... something big was about to happen? Anyway, it was that very strange sensation. But now, I don’t feel much of anything."
The butler: "..."
There was the sound of pages turning over the phone.
Feng Yi waited quietly.
After a while, the butler spoke with a rare tone of distress, "It’s not mentioned in the notes."
Feng Yi: "..."
The butler reassured him, "Don’t worry too much, just try harder to sense it. If you can’t sense it, create conditions to help you sense it. The more you use your sensory organs, the sharper they’ll become. And don’t forget about your instincts."
Feng Yi: "..."
Today, his instinct was once again on the verge of spreading its wings and soaring away from home.
