Chapter 34

~Seraphina’s POV~

~A Few Hours Back~

"I’ve come," I answered, voice velvet smooth, "with a proposition."

Ryan scrutinised me carefully before nodding. "Speak."

I scoffed in my mind. Look at this he-goat thinking he gets a say in this when he is, in fact, just a pawn?

Still, I put on my best act and responded, "

"I care because I was never given the choice, but you clearly love your daughter, which gave me the impression that you needed my help.

He arched his brow curiously.

Good, he’s been baited.

"Your point exactly?" Ryan asked impatiently.

"Here." I lifted my left hand, and in it was a moonstone. His eyes lit up with recognition immediately. "I see you recognise this."

He immediately stepped forward. "This is..."

"Yes, the Moonstone. It can let you pass through the barrier unseen, undetected. You can take this." I offered it to him, and he reached for i,t but then he stopped.

"What’s the catch?"

"There’s no catch. You can take this and take Rhiannon with you."

"Why? Is she threatening you? Does my daughter’s presence threaten you?"

I scoffed, retracting my hand.

"No. She’s a friend. The only true friend I’ve had since I arrived. But I overheard the alphas talking. They wish to breed her and, after which, kill her when she gives birth to their heirs."

"Why?" Ryan asked, clearly unconvinced.

"You should know. You’re smart and her father."

Ryan hesitated a bit, his eyes darting about, probably thinking of my words and trying to find the truth.

"She’s a pure-bred werewolf. Thus making her a prized treasure to any alpha," he began, slowly as his thoughts formed.

"And..." I drawled.

"She’s... even though she is rare, she is dangerous, and they can see it as a threat. To prevent any other Alpha from claiming her, to prevent a war."

His eyes shot up; this time, I could clearly see the danger in them as he stared into my eyes.

"Oh no. How dare those bloody alphas do that to her?"

"I’m sorry, sir. I tried telling her, but she refused to believe me. So I decided to speak to you and if you too don’t listen, at least I tried."

Without saying another word, I turned. "I believe you can live with the consequences."

Ryan rushed forward, placing his hand on my shoulder to stop me from advancing.

"Wait... Please, help me save my daughter."

"Are you sure you are ready to do what it takes?"

His grip on my shoulder tightened. "Yes."

"Okay, then you must kill the Alphas with this."

I turned, taking out a shining dagger and handing it over to him. "Here, the Moondagger, claimed to be blessed in the Moonwater, filled with spiritual properties and lethal to any supernatural."

My eyes gleamed a little before I lifted it.

"At the stroke of midnight, kill every Alpha in their room, then you can escape with Rhainnon, and I can be free."

Ryan glanced at the dagger and then at me. He hesitated, but finally he took it from my hand.

"How can I kill those beastly alphas and not alert the entire pack?"

"Easy. I have prepared their tea, laced with a potent sleeping medicine. They’d be passed out, and when midnight strikes... then you can carry out your plan, but not before."

"I..." He exhaled. "Not before?"

"Yes, the medicine needs time to take effect. That way it is not suspicious. Additionally, they may be with your daughter before it takes effect. You can’t have her witnessing any of that, can you?"

Ryan shook his head. I could see the worry etched on his face.

This man was a whimp for his daughter, and somehow I felt my stomach clench as I remembered the series of slaps and beatings I got as a child.

If only my parents were as good to me as they could be, then I wouldn’t be here.

Too late, when life doesn’t throw you opportunities, you create and take them by force.

Ryan stared out the window. "I thought they loved her."

"They pretend, that way they can get her trust. And Rhiannon is trusting. It is good but dangerous. I just don’t want to see her dead because of it."

"I... sigh."

"If they loved her, why didn’t they honour you in the wedding ceremony. Yet, they cage you up here like a thief and barely give you time with your daughter all the while guarding her. Think about it. Is that love?"

He shook his head, then pressed his lips into a thin line. "Doing this, the entire pack would come for us."

Gently, I placed my hand on his, showing my sympathetic face.

"I have prepared for this day for a while, but never had the right partner to finish with me. I have a house near the border of the werewolf lands. We can all hide there in the meantime."

Then I held out the Moonstone to him. Unlike last time, there was no hesitation as he took it from my hands.

Ryan nodded in understanding, clutching my hand in his. "Thank you."

"No. Thank you. Without yo,u this plan would amount to nothing. I have more eyes on me as their property. Thank you for saving me, too."

"Anytime. But, I do not know their rooms."

"You have nothing to worry about. I’m here... we’ll talk about it."

He nodded eagerly before turning to hide it under the mattress. My lips curled into a sweet smile at how easily my plan was working without me stressing.

I spent time talking to Ryan, making sure he knew the whole direction of the packhouse and his escape route out first before I left.

And immediately, I did, I headed straight to my room and waited.

And as I got back, another thought crossed my mind. The idea of seeing Rhiannon’s face and watching her be smug one more time without her knowing what’s coming for her, was oddly satisfying.

And since I was free, I headed there.

But when I did, I discovered she had been moved to a different room by Alpha Kael himself.

Anger coursed through me. He couldn’t even wait until the mating night before pushing her into full-time royalty and placing her above us, above me.

I stomped my foot and walked away. I couldn’t head there now, else I would bump into one of the Alphas.

She was incredibly protected when they were around. My feet moved on their own and I found myself outside in the garden.

By the time I realised, I had gone oddly far, around the packhouse to the back of the Alpha’s wing.

But just as I attempted to return to my quarters, I spotted her by the terrace of her new room.

She had that smug expression on her face like she had won, but I knew better.

’Be prepared, Rhiannon. Tonight would be the last joyful night you’ll have with the Alphas. I’ll make sure of it."

Never in my life had my patience mattered so much, but it did today. After the Alphas began retiring to their rooms, I hurried before the stroke of midnight and headed to the sacred priestess’ ritual chamber.

Knocking out a few guards was easy... but setting up the crime scene wasn’t hard either with my powers.

At exactly the stroke of midnight, I headed back to the balcony, overlooking the entrance to Alphas’ wing.

And just then, I saw Ryan sneak out of his chambers and head straight for their wing. I waited till he entered Lucien’s room, the second ruthless Alpha, before heading in a different direction, where I knew Darian would be—his study.

Just as I tried to knock on the door, a deep voice called out my name, making me halt.

"Seraphina, what are you doing here at this hour?"

I turned, only to see Riven walking up to me.

I tried not to answer, and instead, I lowered my head. He rushed over, and then grabbed my raised hand and twisted it to my back.

"You couldn’t stand Rhiannon getting us, now you want to still sleep with Darian on our wedding night?"

I held back the need to speak and waited.

Angry, Riven twisted my arm harder behind my back, making me whimper out a sorry cry.

Then, with trembling lips, I glanced up at him and responded.

"It’s not the case."

"It’s not? Then what is? Why are you here?"

"It’s, it’s Rhiannon’s father. I saw him sneaking into the Sacred Ritual Chamber after knocking out the guards."

"What?"

"Then he headed towards the Alpha’s wing with a dagger in his hand after stepping out of the chamber."

At the same time, the door pulled open as Darian’s head stuck out, his eyes immediately locking on Riven.

"He... Riven... Ryan has the Moondagger. He wants to kill the alphas."

"Lucien and the others... shit!"

~Ryan’s POV~

My life flashed before my eyes as I saw my daughter, my jewel, enter the chamber.

I knew her scent anywhere, and even though her alpha did not recognise it at first, I did.

Everything, every problem that had gone wrong, came flashing back.

How useless I was as a father to let her meet the same fate we were trying to prevent her from getting. How useless I was for failing inmy promise to my Luna.

And now, the last thing I tried to do to save her from her predicament ended up taking me away from her.

My lips pulled back in a bittersweet smile as I realised finally that I’ve been set up.

The next second, Alpha Lucien yanked his hand from my chest, pulling my heart with him.

"Nooooo!!!!"

Rhiannon’s piercing scream was the last thing I heard as my body fell backwards on the ground, and just before my life faded completely, I saw her rushing up to my side.

"Noo!! Dadd!! Please!!"

"I..."
