Chapter 17: Seduction

Chapter 17: Seduction

The moment Georgia disappeared down the corridor, Nick’s fury reignited.

He snatched his phone and dialed Sarah—once. Twice. A third time.

No answer.

His jaw clenched as he glanced at the wall clock. She wasn’t on duty for another three hours—probably dead asleep in her cabin. But sleep or not, she wasn’t going to get away with this.

Not this time.

Nick paced like a caged animal in his office, teeth grinding, fists tightening at his sides. Evelyn had already given him the full report—the sharp words in the galley, the passive-aggressive insults, the veiled threats.

And none of it surprised him.

This wasn’t the first time Sarah crossed the line. But it was damn well going to be the last.

His patience shattered like glass under a boot.

He grabbed his phone, shoved the door open so hard it slammed against the wall, and stormed into the corridor.

His boots echoed on the steel floors like a warning drumbeat. When he reached her door, he didn’t bother knocking gently.

He pounded on it with the flat of his hand.

"Sarah! Open the goddamn door!"

No response.

He hit the door again, harder this time, shaking the frame. "I know you’re in there. Don’t make me destroy the fucking the lock!"

Still nothing.

Nick took a sharp step back, bracing to kick the damn door down—only for it to swing open just as his foot rose.

Sarah peeked through the narrow gap, her voice hushed but filled with annoyance. "You’re making a scene, Captain. People are sleeping. You know the shift rotations."

Without waiting for a reply, she pulled the door wider and gestured him in with a flick of her fingers.

Nick’s jaw tightened. He said nothing, just stormed past her, footsteps willful, the tension around him was very obvious. He didn’t spare her a glance—not until he reached the far end of the room and turned sharply to face her.

"Why do I get the feeling that—"

But what he saw stopped him cold.

His eyes narrowed. His arms crossed.

"Of course..." he muttered. "Get dressed. I’ll wait outside."

Sarah stood there, wrapped in nothing but a damp white towel, her skin dewy and still steaming from the shower. Droplets glistened on her collarbone, slowly trailing down her bare arms.

She cocked a hip, then reached back to lock the door with a soft click.

"Oh, come on, Nick," she purred with a sultry voice and smooth like velvet. "As if you haven’t already memorized every inch of this body..."

She stepped forward—slow, predatory—her bare feet silent on the floor. Her fingertips ghosted over his crossed forearms, light and teasing, a practiced touch that once had power over him.

"I was in the shower when you called," she whispered, eyes locked on his. "Rinsed faster than I should have... all to answer your call. But you couldn’t wait, could you?"

She leaned closer, her breath brushing his skin. "So tell me, Captain... what was that feeling you were about to say? I’m all ears. And very... attentive."

Nick didn’t flinch—but a storm brewed in his eyes.

He wasn’t here for seduction. He was here for a war.

When Evelyn coughed out Sarah’s name earlier, the pieces started falling into place for Nick. He’d suspected her right away—but still, he’d held back judgment. He wanted to believe in the crew. He wanted to believe she wouldn’t go that far.

Yes, Sarah was territorial—obsessed even. She made it her mission to destroy any woman who dared to get too close to him. But for all her toxic jealousy, she’d never crossed the line into betrayal. Never done anything that could truly put him at risk.

Nick stood rigid as Sarah stepped toward him, dripping in temptation, the towel barely clinging to her skin. His jaw clenched. She was beautiful—undeniably. Sculpted like a siren meant to drown men. And she knew it.

"Are you just going to stand there gawking at my boobs," she said silkily, "or are we finally going to talk? Or..." she tilted her head with a wicked smile, "do you want me to take this off, drop to my knees, suck you hard, and make you forget the stress and frustration that you are having?"

Nick swallowed hard, heat and fury colliding in his chest.

"No," he growled. "I’m not here for sex, Sarah. I came to—"

But he froze midsentence.

She moved fast. Her hand had already found its way between his legs—brazen, possessive.

Sarah smirked, reading the flicker in his eyes. "Funny," she whispered, "your body seems to disagree. You’re as hard as a rock, I love it!"

In a blink, she unbuckled his belt and popped open the button of his pants, her fingers dancing with muscle memory. Nick stood motionless for a second too long—paralyzed, not by lust, but by disbelief and confusion about what he felt at that moment.

In the past, he would always give in to Sarah’s seduction. It’s something he is weak at. Or perhaps, his subconscious was just letting her do what she wanted with his body since he wanted it too, he needed it, and it was just all lust for him, no emotions attached.

But at that moment, there was hesitation.

When he stared at her chest, he wasn’t really looking at it. At that time, he remembered the awkward moment that he had with Georgia in the morning. He recalled how he accidentally landed on top of her and grabbed her breast, and that made him hard in an instant, just like when it happened.

Sarah took advantage of his frozen state. Her hand slid past the waistband.

That snapped him out of it.

"Enough!" he hissed, grabbing both her wrists and pulling them away from him with force.

"I said we’re going to talk—"

But she twisted like a slippery eel in his grip, pushing one of his hands to her chest, encouraging him to touch her, the other to her lips. She locked eyes with him as she parted them, letting two of his fingers slip into her mouth in a slow, suggestive pull.

And just like that, the towel dropped.

She stood proud, naked, radiant in her confidence and wicked in her intent.

Nick stepped back, heart pounding—not from arousal, but from the unmistakable dread that came from realizing just how far she was willing to go.
