Chapter 839: Chapter 0839: Ye Qiu’s Conjecture
Although this approach involves more personnel, it’s still a feasible plan.
"Ruxue, where are we going next?"
"We’ll go back to the jewelry store to investigate."
...
When Ye Qiu returned to Zhou Dabao’s jewelry chain store, he found it was already open for business. Although the foot traffic was not particularly heavy, at least there were customers coming and going.
Ye Qiu thought that investigating here now was pointless—a mere waste of time. Besides, all the necessary questions had already been asked.
Given last night’s situation, it was obvious that the perpetrators wouldn’t strike again so soon.
Either this group had gone into hiding or they were waiting for the right moment to act again. Ye Qiu was more inclined to believe they were waiting for the trial of the bank robbers before making their next move.
By lunchtime, Zhao Ruxue still hadn’t uncovered any significant leads after visiting several jewelry stores. Noticing that Zhao Ruxue had been sweating so much that her police uniform was soaked, Ye Qiu said, "Let’s take a break and grab some lunch."
When Ruxue hesitated, Ye Qiu added, "Perhaps I know where the suspects are."
"Really?"
Zhao Ruxue couldn’t believe her ears.
But she knew that Ye Qiu’s instincts never failed.
"Let’s eat first!"
However, wearing her police uniform made eating out a bit inconvenient. Occasionally, strangers would cast curious glances their way.
So, Ye Qiu decided to first take Zhao Ruxue back to the Norwegian Forest Bar so she could change out of her uniform before grabbing lunch.
Ye Qiu wasn’t sure if Zhao Rubing would be awake at this hour.
When they arrived at the Norwegian Forest Bar, the place was deserted, clearly closed for business. After going inside, Zhao Ruxue took a shower and changed out of her police uniform, opting for a casual dress instead.
The plan was to change back into her uniform after lunch.
"Is Rubing around?"
"She’s not here!"
Zhao Ruxue replied.
"Alright, then let’s go eat on our own."
Once in the car, Ye Qiu asked, "What do you feel like eating?"
"I don’t mind."
"Then let’s go for Sichuan cuisine."
Ye Qiu drove to an upscale Sichuan restaurant. After parking outside, they went in and were promptly greeted by a waitress.
"We’d like a private room."
"Certainly, sir and madam. Please follow me."
After being shown to a private room, Ye Qiu and Zhao Ruxue each ordered a few dishes. When the waitress left with their order, Zhao Ruxue immediately asked, "You said earlier that you might know where the suspects are?"
"It’s just a guess. I’m not a hundred percent certain, but I’m about 80% confident."
"So where are they?"
"Do you remember those bank robbers from before? The suspects from this jewelry theft case might be linked to them."
Ye Qiu had just read something about the case in the news that morning, which prompted this line of thought. Ruxue had also brought it up earlier.
Zhao Ruxue still vividly remembered the bank robbery and its perpetrators.
"If that’s true," she said, "then we could just interrogate those robbers in custody and get the suspects’ whereabouts from them!"
"Maybe we could, maybe we couldn’t."
"Why wouldn’t we be able to?"
"Think about it—could those robbers inside maintain contact with their accomplices outside? They wouldn’t dare, or even know how, while in custody. But it’s possible they possess some useful information about their accomplices, which could make the investigation much easier."
The more Ruxue listened, the more excited she became. It seemed more and more plausible to her. Both criminal acts involved massive amounts of money, and it was very likely the same crime syndicate was involved.
"Then let’s head there after lunch."
"No need. We’ll confirm everything soon enough. If you go now, you’ll only alert them prematurely."
"How can we confirm it?"
"The trial of those bank robbers is scheduled for tomorrow at Jinling Intermediate Court. That’s when we’ll have the chance to spot their accomplices."
Ruxue reluctantly agreed, though she felt something was missing in this approach.
Of course, once this group exposed themselves, there would be no escape for them.
As they were discussing, the Sichuan dishes they’d ordered were served by two waitresses. Ye Qiu also requested two bottles of drinks.
They finished their meal and relaxed for another fifteen minutes. When Ye Qiu called for the bill, it was already past 1 p.m. They left the restaurant, got back in the car, and drove off.
Initially, Ruxue wanted to head straight to the City Police Bureau to report their findings, but Ye Qiu stopped her. Reporting it now could tip off the suspects and make it harder to catch them. If the jewelry theft gang was indeed connected to the bank robbers, they wouldn’t resurface after being spooked. Solving the case would become nearly impossible then.
Thus, if Ruxue wanted to make a name for herself, she had to do things Ye Qiu’s way.
Tomorrow, police personnel should closely monitor the route between the detention center and Jinling Intermediate Court. If any suspicious person appeared, they needed to act immediately.
As the battalion commander of the criminal investigation team, Ruxue had about twenty subordinates—aside from office personnel—under her command.
However, since she was temporarily assigned to the City Police Bureau, her official position remained under the Jiangbei sub-bureau, where her subordinates were still stationed.
Now serving on both the toxicology case task force and the jewelry theft task force, Zhao Ruxue’s role had become quite complicated.
"So does that mean I need to go back to Jiangbei to gather my team?"
At the City Police Bureau, she had no true subordinates. Those in her office technically worked under her, but none of them were actual team members.
"Actually, you don’t need to. I can get someone to help you."
"Who?"
Ye Qiu didn’t elaborate further.
For now, Ruxue couldn’t clock out or return to the City Police Bureau. All she could do was revisit the jewelry stores. However, having already been to them earlier, this would accomplish little and might even disrupt business at the shops.
In this situation, Ruxue thought it might be better to scout the route from the detention center to Jinling Intermediate Court in advance.
The bank robbers were currently being held at Jinling Second Detention Center, located in the city, while Jinling Intermediate Court was near the city government building.
According to the GPS, the two locations were about 15 kilometers apart. Without traffic, it wasn’t a long drive.
Ye Qiu drove first to Jinling Second Detention Center. As they approached, they could see armed guards stationed at the entrance and police cars coming and going.
There was no need for Ye Qiu to go inside. After taking in the scene from a distance, he drove towards Jinling Intermediate Court instead.
