Chapter 827: Chapter 0828: Begging Me is Useless

The moment Zhang Shiwei, who was working at Jinling Military Hospital, received a call from his younger brother, he only heard that his brother had been bullied by someone. However, he didn’t anticipate that things would escalate beyond his imagination.

Around lunchtime, Zhang Shiwei got a call from a superior. He had no choice but to meet with them.

He received some extremely bad news—his position was suspended!

Suspension meant something Zhang Shiwei understood all too well.

Jinling Military Hospital was different from those tertiary hospitals outside. Although Jinling Military Hospital was also classified as a tertiary hospital, it had a unique status—it was under military management.

So beyond his identity as an internal medicine department director, Zhang Shiwei also held the rank of Colonel.

However, this rank was like the honorary titles given to singing celebrities; it was related to his previous military status.

It was merely an honorary title, without much practical power.

Yet to his surprise, Zhang Shiwei learned not only that his position was suspended but that he would also be under investigation.

What were they investigating?

Zhang Shiwei was baffled. He didn’t embezzle or accept red envelopes from patients, so why investigate him?

Soon enough, he found out it was related to his younger brother, Zhang Shaowei.

Zhang Shaowei must have caused major trouble—offended someone he shouldn’t have.

In a rush, Zhang Shiwei used his connections and asked around, only to discover that his brother had harassed a female student during military training. When her boyfriend confronted him, a fight broke out. Zhang Shaowei even called on military personnel and pulled out a handgun to threaten the boy.

If that had been all, it might not have amounted to much.

But the person Zhang Shaowei provoked turned out to be Ye Qiu—the young doctor who had treated Old Comrade Cao the day before.

As for Ye Qiu’s relationship with Old Comrade Cao, others didn’t know, but the fact that Cao himself made a call to the Political Commissar showed this matter was far from simple.

"This bastard is ruining me!"

What shocked Zhang Shiwei even more was that his brother had used his identity as a Colonel to threaten the boy and publicly declared in front of all those students that he would kill the freshman.

Over the years, there’d been cases of people ruining their fathers’ reputations and even their uncles’, but Zhang Shiwei never expected that his own brother would end up ruining him.

What to do now?

Realizing he needed to find the boy and explain things as soon as possible, Zhang Shiwei rushed to resolve the situation. But before he could act, he learned that his brother had already been sent to Jinling Military Hospital for treatment by the military.

When Zhang Shiwei hurried over to see his younger brother, he was startled to find two armed soldiers standing guard at the door of the room.

"I’m the patient’s family member. May I go in and see him?"

Zhang Shiwei asked.

Even though he was dressed in a military uniform and held the rank of Colonel, the two soldiers didn’t even bother to glance at him.

"Comrade, can I go in and see my brother?"

"He’s not going to die," one soldier said coldly.

Without orders from above, no one was allowed in.

That’s when Zhang Shiwei realized the situation was even more serious than he had imagined. Not only had they suspended him from his duties, but his brother was locked inside a room, and even he couldn’t get in to see him.

What now?

Zhang Shiwei knew he had to speak to the boy and explain everything to clear the air.

Otherwise, being affiliated with Jinling Military Hospital would only drag him down further.

After confirming that the boy was a student at Jinling University, Zhang Shiwei still didn’t know which class he belonged to.

But he could ask the other instructors.

As Zhang Shiwei rushed over to Jin University in his car, Ye Qiu and Luo Yang returned to the training ground to continue practicing military boxing.

Ye Qiu’s popularity on Jin University’s forums was still soaring, only a step away from claiming the top spot on the rankings.

But Ye Qiu didn’t care about any of it.

While Wu Shuang trained the freshmen in military boxing, Zhang Shiwei arrived at Jin University, asked an instructor about the boy Zhang Shaowei had fought that morning, and was pointed in the right direction.

As Zhang Shiwei headed toward Wu Shuang’s area, the moment he spotted Wu Shuang, he had a sinking feeling.

Could the boy his brother fought really be that young doctor he underestimated yesterday?

He couldn’t yet be sure.

"Captain Wu, I’d like to ask you something!"

Zhang Shiwei approached him and said.

In truth, the facial features of the brothers Zhang Shiwei and Zhang Shaowei were somewhat similar—after all, they were siblings. The difference was that Zhang Shiwei’s older age made him look slightly portly.

"What do you want?"

Wu Shuang asked.

"Who’s the young man my brother fought? I’d like to apologize to him."

Zhang Shiwei replied.

Wu Shuang didn’t need to guess the reason behind Zhang Shiwei’s urgency.

Of course, Wu Shuang hadn’t anticipated that the Colonel Zhang Shaowei boasted about would turn out to be Zhang Shiwei. He had assumed it would be a Colonel with actual authority within the military—not Zhang Shiwei.

Wu Shuang didn’t want to bother with him and simply said, "It’s the same Ye Qiu as the one who asked you to leave yesterday."

What a small world.

Zhang Shiwei hadn’t expected that not only he but his brother also underestimated this young man, and his brother made the grave mistake of provoking him.

When Zhang Shiwei caught sight of Ye Qiu practicing military boxing nearby, his hope sank to rock bottom.

Still, he decided to give it a try and speak to Ye Qiu in the hopes of sparing himself from the fallout caused by his brother.

"Dr. Ye, I’m here to apologize on behalf of my brother."

Zhang Shiwei walked over and said.

"Who are you? I don’t even know you!"

Ye Qiu responded coldly.

"I’m Zhang, the department director at the military hospital."

Assuming Ye Qiu had forgotten him, Zhang Shiwei explained, though Ye Qiu hadn’t forgotten him at all. Upon finding out they were brothers, Ye Qiu’s disdain only deepened. It seemed the saying "like father, like son" extended to siblings as well. If Zhang Shiwei were an actual Colonel, say a Regiment Commander or Brigade Commander, then wouldn’t he outright have the power to execute Ye Qiu?

"My position has been suspended, likely because of my brother’s incident. I hope you won’t pursue the matter further," Zhang Shiwei said.

Only now did Ye Qiu understand why he had come to find him.

Suspended? What did his suspension have to do with Ye Qiu? Matters within the military had nothing to do with him.

"Your issues have nothing to do with me. Asking me is useless. Don’t interfere with my training," Ye Qiu said icily.

Seeing Ye Qiu’s frosty demeanor, Zhang Shiwei realized that seeking mercy from this young man was likely hopeless. He could only turn to his network to see if there was anyone who could save him.

After Zhang Shiwei left, Wu Shuang watched his retreating figure with disdain. He didn’t like people like Zhang Shiwei.

After all, Wu Shuang had seen through him yesterday at the military hospital—a man who liked kissing up to others, the type of individual genuine officers despised most.
