Chapter 785: Chapter 0786: Today You Ignore Me, Tomorrow I’ll Be Out of Your League [First Update]

Li Shen’s family background was quite ordinary, even less privileged than that of Ye Weidong and his wife. If not for Ye Qiu’s support, Li Shen’s parents, Li Yijun and Zhang Chunling, would have already asked him to find work right after graduating from senior year in high school.

But now, with Ye Qiu’s help getting into Jinling University’s Independent Institute, and Ye Qiu offering to pay his tuition for four years, Li Yijun and Zhang Chunling no longer felt the same pressures.

Ye Qiu drove to Li Shen’s apartment building, having already told him to pack up his belongings. Tomorrow, he could head straight to Jinling University’s Independent Institute to register.

Ye Qiu and Liu Lingxiu got out of the car and walked inside. Li Yijun wasn’t home, but Zhang Chunling was, and because Ye Qiu had treated Li Shen before, Zhang Chunling now had an even better impression of him.

"Ye Qiu, Lingshow, you’re here."

"Auntie, I’m here to pick up Li Shen to take him along tomorrow to school," Ye Qiu said.

"Yijun and I were planning to take him ourselves, but since you’re picking him up, then go ahead."

Because Ye Qiu was paying Li Shen’s tuition, Zhang Chunling couldn’t help but feel something different toward Ye Qiu.

Li Shen was upstairs, still packing his things. He planned to bring his two sets of clothes and a desktop computer, moving everything into the dormitory of the Independent Institute.

When he came downstairs, Ye Qiu noticed how thin Li Shen still was, his build resembling that of a bamboo pole.

Originally, Ye Qiu had considered letting Li Shen work alongside Cai Yong, as Li Shen certainly had the courage for it. But in the end, Ye Qiu chose not to go that route. He decided to keep Li Shen by his side instead.

After all, he had only two friends.

"Take this along too," Ye Qiu remarked, eyeing Li Shen’s desktop computer.

"Of course I need to bring it—how could I manage in the dorm without a computer?"

There was no way Ye Qiu would let Li Shen frequent internet cafes, as they had often done during their senior year, along with Zhu Zhiming. There were plenty of internet cafes near the university too.

"You don’t need to bring this. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to assemble a new one," Ye Qiu said.

"But that would still cost two or three thousand," Li Shen replied.

Even though Ye Qiu was covering his tuition, Li Shen knew his parents would have to shoulder the living expenses. He already felt uneasy about Ye Qiu paying for his education.

"Two or three thousand? That’s nothing," Ye Qiu said.

Li Shen could only carry his old desktop upstairs again. Once his belongings were packed and confirmed as ready to go, Ye Qiu mentioned it briefly to Zhang Chunling before preparing to leave.

Just as Zhang Chunling was about to offer Ye Qiu and Liu Lingxiu something to drink, Ye Qiu politely declined.

Back in the car, while driving away, Zhang Chunling couldn’t help but look at Ye Qiu with a trace of envy. Naturally, she envied Ye Weidong and his wife for having a son like Ye Qiu.

Ye Qiu drove to Zhu Zhiming’s house next. Zhu Zhiming’s home was a standalone house, but it appeared much better than Li Shen’s.

By the time they reached the entrance, Zhu Zhiming’s parents, Zhu Yulin and Li Meizhen, were already at the door, waiting to welcome them.

Ye Qiu, Liu Lingxiu, and Li Shen stepped out of the car, and Zhu Yulin and Li Meizhen hurriedly invited them inside.

The couple fully understood their situation; Zhu Zhiming was their only child. If he wanted to continue his studies, they could have used their connections to send him to an ordinary vocational college, let him spend a few years there, then involve him in the family business.

Never did they expect Ye Qiu would arrange for Zhu Zhiming to enter Jinling University’s Independent Institute for his education.

Though it was a third-tier school, Zhu Yulin knew Ye Qiu must have either spent a considerable amount of money or pulled some strings to make this possible.

As Li Meizhen poured water for the three of them, Zhu Yulin pulled Ye Qiu aside and asked, "Ye Qiu, I heard you were in France recently?"

"That’s right, Uncle Zhu. I just returned a few days ago. I went to France to treat an Earl," Ye Qiu said.

This revelation left Zhu Yulin even more amazed.

Previously, when Ye Qiu treated Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming, Zhu Yulin had already been deeply impressed by Ye Qiu’s mysterious medical skills.

Especially when Li Shen’s intestines had spilled out at the time, and Ye Qiu managed to treat him effortlessly—that was what had shocked Zhu Yulin.

"This time, how much did it cost you to arrange for the two kids to enroll in Jin University?"

Zhu Yulin realized that not even his connections could have accomplished this for his son, let alone for two kids. Yet Ye Qiu managed it so easily.

"Uncle, it didn’t cost much," Ye Qiu replied.

Ye Qiu didn’t elaborate, not wanting Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming to feel burdened.

"Give me an idea—I need to mentally prepare," Zhu Yulin insisted.

"Just two or three thousand short," Ye Qiu remarked.

By that point, Zhu Yulin understood—it likely amounted to two or three years’ worth of his income.

Clearly, only someone like Ye Qiu had the capability to pull off something like this.

Zhu Yulin chose not to press further. Both Zhu Yulin and Li Meizhen had intended to personally accompany Zhu Zhiming to school tomorrow. Now that Ye Qiu was taking over, they decided to let him handle it.

However, Zhu Zhiming’s tuition didn’t require Ye Qiu’s help, as the couple could afford it themselves.

After Li Meizhen packed clothes and various essentials for Zhu Zhiming, the couple even gifted him a new Apple laptop, spending nearly twenty thousand yuan. They clearly doted on him immensely.

"Brother Qiu, I’ve finished packing up," Zhu Zhiming said.

"Load it onto the car first," Ye Qiu instructed.

After placing everything in the car, Ye Qiu stayed to chat with Zhu Yulin and Li Meizhen for about thirty minutes before heading out again.

Back during their school days, the couple had somewhat looked down on Ye Qiu, thinking he was the top student in their son’s class but shy and timid. They never imagined he’d become friends with their son.

Now, looking back, they couldn’t figure out how Ye Qiu had undergone such a dramatic transformation.

Ye Qiu then drove toward the old house where Liu Daqing lived, intending to bring him back to Jiangnan.

"Brother Qiu, did you hear about this?" Li Shen asked.

"Hear about what?"

"Su Luoluo was shot near Pearl Spring and spent half a month in the hospital," Li Shen explained.

This was something Li Shen had learned from his senior-year classmates group chat.

Ye Qiu simply smiled and glanced at Liu Lingxiu beside him.

Both he and Liu Lingxiu knew perfectly well that Ye Qiu had been the one to save Su Luoluo after she’d been shot.

"I wasn’t paying attention," Ye Qiu replied.

Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming truly thought Ye Qiu hadn’t been keeping up with the news. And it made sense—Ye Qiu wasn’t the same as before. Even if Su Luoluo was once an unattainable ’princess,’ she was no longer on a pedestal in his eyes.

"Is she fully recovered?"

Liu Lingxiu asked rather than Ye Qiu.

"I heard she was discharged and has recovered," Li Shen responded.

With school starting tomorrow, if fate allowed, they might even run into her at Jinling University.
