Chapter 739: Chapter 0740: Chinatown in Paris [First Update]
When Louise also wanted to go eat in Chinatown in Paris, Ye Qiu had the driver head in the direction of Chinatown.
Paris Chinatown is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, and it might be one of the largest Chinatowns in Europe. It began concentrating the earliest Asian refugees from the 18th century and had now become the largest Chinatown.
When the driver arrived at an archway in Paris Chinatown where no further driving was possible, Ye Qiu asked him to park the car and follow them in, or just leave first.
After speaking with him, Louise watched as the driver drove off.
Upon seeing this archway, Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting felt a strong Huaxia atmosphere envelop them, as if they had arrived in a small town back home.
The Huaxia-style architecture of the streets inside, the festive red lanterns hanging everywhere, and the traditional or simplified Chinese character signs made Ye Qiu feel as though he was in Huaxia, not Paris.
In Chinatown, there was a plethora of dining options: the eight great cuisines of Huaxia, Huaxia’s snacks, and tea houses—all of these were available here.
Since it was already lunchtime, Ye Qiu took Zhou Wenting by the hand and walked ahead.
Louise felt a pang of jealousy as she watched Ye Qiu holding Zhou Wenting’s hand, and she could only walk by Zhou Wenting’s side until they reached a Huaiyang cuisine restaurant.
Upon entering this Huaiyang cuisine restaurant, they found it quite upscale, looking very clean. However, there were many black, white, and Asian people inside, most of whom were likely tourists visiting the area.
Disliking the outside noise, Ye Qiu asked a waitress for a private room instead.
Once inside the private room, the waitress brought tea and water. After closing the door, it indeed became much quieter.
"Sir, what would you like to eat?"
"Is the Huaiyang cuisine here authentic?"
"Very authentic, with no altered flavors,"
said the waitress.
"Do you have everything on the menu?"
"Sir, here’s the menu,"
said the waitress.
When Ye Qiu took the menu and looked at it, he found the prices to be about three to four times higher than in the domestic market. But then, incomes and consequently expenses were much higher in France.
"Pine nuts with corn, Squirrel-shaped Mandarin fish, Lion’s Head meatballs from Guangling, Guangling stir-fried noodles, clear stewed Lion’s Head, Land of Fish and Rice, Three Sets of Duck, Wensi tofu; we’ll take one of each,"
Ye Qiu said.
After the waitress took note of the order, Ye Qiu asked her to bring a bottle of millet wine as she prepared to leave with the menu.
Zhou Wenting also enjoyed food from Jiangnan, which included Huaiyang cuisine. She often came to eat in Chinatown while she was studying in high school in Paris.
Louise, on the other hand, had barely tried it before. At Earl Charlie’s Castle, Earl Charley had specifically hired a chef to prepare Jiangnan cuisine to accommodate Ye Qiu, where Louise had her first taste and found it quite good.
Now that the waitress had left, Louise had just heard Ye Qiu’s order when Zhou Wenting translated for her. Louise said, "Squirrels are so cute; they shouldn’t be eaten. And, how could you possibly eat a lion’s head?"
Although squirrels and lions were not particularly protected animals in France, and some white people even went to Africa to hunt lions and tigers,
Louise was still surprised to hear about eating squirrel and lion’s head.
"Louise, these are not real squirrels and lion’s heads but are represented by other dishes. You’ll understand when you see them,"
Zhou Wenting said.
"If you want to be friends with me, you’ll have to understand Huaxia culture a bit more!"
Ye Qiu looked at her and said,
"I don’t want to be your friend."
Louise didn’t expect Ye Qiu to say such a thing, especially after recalling how she had thrown herself at him, stark naked in the bathroom that night, only for him to tell her those words, which made her quite unhappy.
After all, she was a direct descendant from a major family and was very likely to become the heir to the Gauthier Family and Goth Consortium.
Of course, Zhou Wenting was not interested in those, focusing solely on medicine and still working at the hospital owned by her family.
If it wasn’t for the need to take care of Zhou Wenting and Ye Qiu, she might still have been in the hospital treating patients.
"Well, then, forget it. We won’t be seeing each other after this anyway,"
Ye Qiu said.
Louise fell silent upon hearing Ye Qiu’s words.
Did Ye Qiu really dislike her?
Louise didn’t know, but her approach to Ye Qiu was indeed purposeful, at first purely because of his mysterious Medical Skills. However, after spending more time together, he had definitely attracted her, and her motives were no longer purely professional.
While Louise was silent, Zhou Wenting didn’t understand why Ye Qiu would say such a thing, thinking he must have angered Louise.
In the past few days, she had sensed something off between Ye Qiu and Louise, completely unaware of what had happened between them, yet she felt it couldn’t be that simple.
At that moment, a female waiter outside the door brought in a bottle of rice wine that had been exported domestically to their location.
This bottle of rice wine was not very strong in alcohol content, but when opened and poured into the glass, Louise thought it would be like red wine. However, upon drinking it straight, the potency hit her, burning fierier and much stronger than red wine.
With red wine, one might not feel the effects immediately, but gradually, the alcohol content would make itself known.
But with domestic liquor, the difference was apparent right from the start.
"You should drink it slowly!"
Ye Qiu advised Louise.
Louise didn’t dare to drink like she had before.
Of course, Ye Qiu knew he could drink any amount without issue, but if Louise and Zhou Wenting got drunk, was he supposed to carry one and hold the other back to the hotel?
Therefore, he only let Zhou Wenting and Louise each have two small cups before stopping them.
As the two waitresses intermittently brought in the dishes Ye Qiu had ordered, Louise realized that her previous misconception about squirrel and lion’s head was indeed a mistake.
Moreover, she found them exceptionally delicious, and the golden fried rice, she felt, was even more delectable than anything else.
After the three of them had eaten their fill, it was only noon.
Sitting and resting for half an hour inside, when the waiter came back in to settle the bill, Zhou Wenting took out cash in Euro to pay, and even gave the two waitresses a ten Euro tip each.
In Huaxia, tipping was very normal, and it would be abnormal not to tip.
Now satisfied with the meal and drink, Ye Qiu slightly circulated the "Primordial Five Emperors Technique," and his intoxication completely dissipated.
As for Louise, who had gotten a bit red in the face from drinking, surprised Ye Qiu because she seemed to be completely fine. Could she possibly hold her liquor well?
On the other hand, Zhou Wenting was somewhat red-faced. Although not drunk, she felt different from before she drank.
