Chapter 733: Chapter 0734: Must Be Absolutely Loyal to Me [First Update]
This was the first raging storm Ye Qiu encountered after coming to France. Though he had seen lightning and heard thunder at Count Charley’s grand castle, it never rained as heavily as it was now.
From afar, it felt as though the entire sky was about to collapse, the rain was as thick as a pinky finger, and the distant waves of the Atlantic violently lashed the shore. While Ye Qiu was reading in the study’s master room, he could clearly hear them.
Time ticked away, second by second.
Until midnight struck, and there came a knock at the door. When Ye Qiu opened it, he found it was Housekeeper Eugene.
Housekeeper Eugene didn’t understand why Ye Qiu wanted to meet him in the study at midnight.
Could it be that Viscount Ye Qiu had some peculiar hobby?
However, Housekeeper Eugene could see that Ye Qiu only liked beautiful women, definitely not a big man like himself.
The study was in another room. Ye Qiu led the way, with Housekeeper Eugene following behind. Ye Qiu noticed that at night, the castle seemed very empty, and even the slightest footstep echoed loudly.
If one were faint-hearted, they really wouldn’t dare to stay in such a large castle.
Moreover, the lighting inside wasn’t very abundant, clearly a significant consideration to conserve money as well as match the decor.
When Ye Qiu pushed the door and entered the study, he had already been there earlier. The room was filled entirely with books, many of which were left from the past.
Before absorbing that part of the Soul Consciousness, most of the books here were incomprehensible to Ye Qiu, as many were in minor languages, some even ancient and gradually vanishing languages.
But after absorbing thousands of Soul Consciousnesses, it became easy for Ye Qiu to understand the contents of these books.
Ye Qiu opened the window and looked out at the heavy rain.
Housekeeper Eugene was still energetically standing there, but in his heart, he was silently praying, clearly he also followed that religion.
"Do you know how I came to own this castle and estate?"
"Viscount Ye Qiu, I heard that Archbishop Count Charley gifted it to you,"
said Housekeeper Eugene.
"Stop calling me Viscount, it feels a bit uncomfortable. Just call me Young Master Ye!"
"Yes, Young Master Ye!"
Housekeeper Eugene quickly replied.
"Then do you know why Archbishop Count Charley would gift the castle and estate to me?"
Ye Qiu asked, looking at Housekeeper Eugene.
Standing there, Housekeeper Eugene said, "I’m not very certain, I just suddenly received a notice from Housekeeper Ivan that the castle now belongs to you, Young Master Ye."
Housekeeper Eugene, being in this place, didn’t know about Count Charley’s injury or that he was bedridden, and many others didn’t know either.
Of course, Housekeeper Eugene wondered why Count Charley would gift this castle to a young man from the East.
"Because he was injured by an Evil Device of the Cult, and he nearly met your God. I saved him in the end!"
Ye Qiu explained.
"How, how is that possible?"
Housekeeper Eugene could hardly believe it. Archbishop Count Charley was injured by a Cult, which dominated the religious scene in Europe.
That Archbishop Count Charley was hurt by an Evil Device of the Cult, and nearly lost his life, only to be saved in the end by Ye Qiu.
"You don’t believe it?"
Ye Qiu stared at him and asked.
"No, it’s not that, I just heard that the Archbishop has boundless magical powers and yet was hurt by the cult’s Evil Device, which I really can’t believe,"
Housekeeper Eugene said before bowing his head in prayer again, not knowing exactly what he was saying.
Viscount Ye Qiu looked out the window, recalling the highest level of this castle. He hadn’t expected that although he now owned the castle, it harbored and worshipped another god.
The white-haired, red-eyed bats, Viscount Ye Qiu knew, surely resided in the highest level, which also explained why they were referred to as pets of god, for only they dwelled on the same floor as god.
But what about the Archbishop who worshipped this god? In the end, he almost lost his life.
However, everyone here, including Housekeeper Eugene and other servants, all followed this religion. Viscount Ye Qiu knew that changing their beliefs was not going to be a simple task.
Viscount Ye Qiu did not have much time to stay here and certainly did not have the time to undertake such efforts.
As for the Holy Church or the cult, to Viscount Ye Qiu, they meant nothing.
"Or do you think Archbishop Count Charley would have been so generous to give me his family’s property?"
Viscount Ye Qiu asked coldly.
Housekeeper Eugene thought about it and realized it must be as Viscount Ye Qiu had said.
"Now, this castle and the estate are all mine, but this afternoon and evening, looking at the ledgers you kept, I noticed nothing seemed amiss. You should not have embezzled any of Count Charley’s income,"
"Young Master Ye, I swear to the god I believe in, I have not pocketed a single penny,"
Housekeeper Eugene hurriedly said.
As an outstanding French butler, Housekeeper Eugene was well aware that managing a household’s affairs large and small was his responsibility, but if it were to be rumored that he had embezzled his master’s money, his career would be fatally damaged.
After all, who would dare to employ such a person!
"I believe you, I only called you over tonight, otherwise, I would have had you kicked out this afternoon!"
"Yes, Young Master Ye,"
Housekeeper Eugene said.
"I won’t be spending many days here and will return to Huaxia soon. This castle will definitely still need a butler to manage it on my behalf, but the butler I require must be utterly reliable and completely loyal to me."
Viscount Ye Qiu stared coldly at Housekeeper Eugene.
Upon hearing this, Housekeeper Eugene realized this was his opportunity.
Before Viscount Ye Qiu spoke further, Housekeeper Eugene knelt on both knees and looked up, saying, "Young Master Ye, in the name of the god I worship, I swear to you, I will absolutely be loyal, I will never betray my master."
But Viscount Ye Qiu did not respond, instead looking out of the window.
Outside the window, suddenly there was a flash of lightning and a peal of thunder. Housekeeper Eugene appeared frightened. Was this a sign from the god he worshipped or was it because he felt he was lying!
"If I asked you to abandon the religion you follow, what would you do?"
Viscount Ye Qiu turned and coldly said.
Housekeeper Eugene had not expected that Viscount Ye Qiu would propose such a condition. Thinking how he had unconditionally followed this religion from a young age, and now Viscount Ye Qiu was asking him to leave it.
He definitely could not agree.
Yet, he had just sworn he would absolutely be a person Viscount Ye Qiu could trust, certainly not betraying Ye Qiu.
"Young Master Ye, if you asked me to do anything else, I surely would comply, but if you want me to leave this religion and faith, I can’t do that,"
Upon hearing this, Ye Qiu knew in his heart that Housekeeper Eugene was a good man. If he had immediately agreed to Ye Qiu’s proposition due to temptation, then he surely could not have been a trustworthy person.
"What if someone threatens you in the name of god to do something betraying me, would you comply?"
