Ye Qiu couldn’t tell Liu Lingxiu about his past at the Heavenly Court Imperial Medical Bureau. Even if he did tell her, and even if she believed him, it was still a secret he could never share with anyone.

Ye Qiu was about to head back to the villa with Liu Lingxiu when his phone rang. He saw it was Zhao Ruxue calling.

"I’m heading to Jiangnan. Come pick me up."

"Do you usually have conflicts with anyone?"

Ye Qiu knew that he did have conflicts, quite a few, actually, like with Zhang Wei, though Zhang Wei was already dead, so it couldn’t be him.

As for the others, they had more or less provoked him first, and he had retaliated.

"Really?"

Zhao Ruxue looked at Ye Qiu’s expression, thinking he couldn’t be lying. But if that was the case, who would be so ruthless as to poison so many people, wanting them all dead?

Zhao Ruxue didn’t know, but she was aware the investigation into the poisoning case would have to proceed slowly.

Her current position was Deputy Battalion Commander of the Criminal Investigation Battalion. However, for this collective poisoning case, she was just a regular officer, looking for any useful clues for the City Police Bureau.

"I just got the surveillance footage from the four-star hotel. Let’s watch it in the car, then we can visit the hotel afterward."

The car had many features, and playing CDs was the most basic one. As they watched the surveillance footage, they could see almost every corner of the four-star hotel, except for inside the rooms: guests coming and going in the hallways, chefs and servers in the kitchen, and security personnel throughout the hotel were all clearly visible.

"Let’s check out that staff member transporting the trash first!" she said.

At Jinling Hospital earlier, Ye Qiu had seen all the hotel staff, but he hadn’t seen the one handling the trash.

When he drove to the four-star hotel again, the area outside was already cordoned off. The hotel was closed, unable to operate because its staff was being treated at Jinling Hospital.

Police were still on site. Ye Qiu parked, and he and Zhao Ruxue got out. Zhao Ruxue showed her badge to an officer, who then led them to the hotel’s logistics department, which handled the kitchen waste and garbage.

The logistics department also included waitstaff and cleaning personnel, all part of the same unit.

Since there were no hotel staff present, neither Ye Qiu nor Zhao Ruxue could obtain information. They decided to drive back to Jinling Hospital.

Upon returning to Jinling Hospital, all the staff were in the critical care unit, still in critical condition.

"Let’s find a hotel manager to inquire," Zhao Ruxue suggested.

Following Ye Qiu, they found Director Liu, who was excited to see Ye Qiu, thinking he had come to treat the patients.

Even though they knew the patients had been poisoned with aconite, their conditions hadn’t improved despite treatment.

"Dr. Ye, are you here to treat them?"

"I can only treat one at most. I want to treat a hotel manager, preferably the hotel manager himself. Officer Zhao and I have many questions for him."

Director Liu led Ye Qiu and Zhao Ruxue to the critical care unit where the hotel manager, Mr. Wu, was. His condition was very serious.

"He has been vomiting blood and convulsing all afternoon. The doctors performed gastric lavage and treated him for aconite poisoning, but his condition hasn’t improved."

"Move him to a private room. I’ll treat him personally."
