Chapter 1010: Chapter 1010: Never Do Things Against Conscience, Fear No Ghost Knocking at Midnight
General Mountain isn’t exactly a famous mountain, but it’s a free attraction. The trees and Mountain Lake here make it a nice place for a stroll, with the sound of birdsong.
Liu Lingshow took Ye Qiu’s arm and walked around the Mountain Lake on General Mountain before finding a place to stay.
Liu Lingshow leaned against Ye Qiu, gazing into the distance, seemingly lost in thought.
Speaking of Ye Qiu not treating her well, Liu Lingshow knew it was impossible. She knew that Ye Qiu was very good to her and her parents. Thanks to Ye Qiu, her parents no longer had to work as hard as before and their income had increased.
However, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the gap between her and Ye Qiu was growing wider while it seemed more suitable for Ye Qiu to be with Li Qianqian.
"What are you looking at?"
Ye Qiu asked.
"Nothing, nothing."
Liu Lingshow snapped out of her thoughts.
Ye Qiu noticed Liu Lingshow’s eyes were still very pure, unlike other girls’ eyes which often suggested a lack of innocence.
"What do you want for lunch?"
"Anything is fine."
For Liu Lingshow, she felt that even a fast-food meal with Ye Qiu was just fine.
As they left General Mountain, it was almost lunchtime, so they hopped onto Ye Qiu’s car and he drove away from there.
Ye Qiu didn’t head back to the city center but found a lodge in the outskirts where they planned to have lunch. Afterward, they’d check on the situation at the branch of the court cuisine restaurant.
...
Deng Zhiyong’s parents were puzzled when they returned from paying respects to Li Fei on behalf of Deng Zhiyong. Their son had always been in good health, so how did he suddenly fall seriously ill?
The couple only had one son, and they didn’t want anything bad to happen to Deng Zhiyong.
When they returned to Jinling Affiliated Hospital to Deng Zhiyong’s ward, he was resting on the bed while his wife said, "Mom and Dad, Zhiyong’s three friends just came to see him."
"Which friends?"
"It was Boss Feng, Boss Gao, and Boss Ding. Those three said that as of the day before, Zhiyong and Lijun seemed perfectly fine. They couldn’t believe it when both suddenly came down with cancer, and it’s already in the late stages."
Deng Zhiyong’s wife said.
Deng Zhiyong’s three friends were known to his parents, although they were acquaintances rather than close friends, aware that they were big bosses.
"If that’s the case, there might truly be an issue. Should we ask a Mage to take a look?"
Deng Zhiyong’s mother said.
"Sometimes, you just have to believe."
Deng Zhiyong’s father agreed.
Meanwhile, Deng Zhiyong’s wife learned from her husband that he had been haunted by nightmares all the prior night. He dreamt about the deceased Li Fei, who insisted that he go to another place for business.
Even in his dreams, Deng Zhiyong adamantly refused.
Obviously, that wasn’t all.
As the saying goes, "If you don’t do guilty deeds, you won’t fear ghosts knocking on your door."
Deng Zhiyong feared his recent illness was punishment for the wrongs he had committed, especially against Li Fei and his family.
But now he’s suddenly gravely ill, and to say he wasn’t scared would be a lie.
Yet, he couldn’t disclose the deeds involving Ning Family and Ning Corporation.
"It seems we’ll need to ask for divine intervention!"
Deng Zhiyong’s mother suggested.
Being from a rural area, she deeply believed in such matters.
Upon hearing about the request from the long-deceased Li Fei asking her son to go to another place for business, wasn’t it akin to asking for Deng Zhiyong’s life?
But now that he’s diagnosed with mid-to-late stage stomach cancer, chances are slim for treatments to offer anything more than a temporary reprieve.
Unless a miracle occurs, it would be impossible to cure this cancer.
Feng Zhiqiang, Gao Xiangyang, and Ding Jianwei visited the Affiliated Hospital, checking on An Lijun and Deng Zhiyong, before leaving one after the other.
They simply expressed condolences to the families of the two, as they weren’t too acquainted with An Lijun or Deng Zhiyong and didn’t linger longer than necessary.
However, they were bewildered since both Deng Zhiyong and An Lijun had been healthy, so how could they develop illnesses so suddenly?
But what scared them even more was that both had dreamed of Li Fei, with Li Fei insisting they follow him to another world for business.
Doesn’t that mean it’s a death invitation?
So, saying Feng Zhiqiang and the others weren’t afraid would be inaccurate.
Especially Feng Zhiqiang and Gao Xiangyang, once they learned of the two’s nightmares, felt terrified. In contrast, Ding Jianwei, being a university professor, wasn’t too convinced about such things.
However, the bizarre illness of those two started making Ding Jianwei question his skepticism.
"I wonder if the sister-in-law knows?"
After the three left Jinling Affiliated Hospital, Feng Zhiqiang looked at the other two and spoke.
The sister-in-law they referred to was Xia Lan.
But now, with so much going on in the company, how could Xia Lan be concerned about these matters?
"I don’t know either. Why don’t we go to the company to check?"
Since they had time and were interested in learning more about the Eiffel Hotel Chain Group’s situation.
After all, the hotel faced a huge upheaval, and they had shares there, not wanting the hotel chain to suddenly collapse.
The three drove to the Eiffel Hotel Chain Group building’s underground parking garage. They got out of the car and took another up to the CEO office.
As they reached the office door and knocked, it was Bai Mei who opened it, not Su Xiaomin.
"Secretary Bai, where’s Secretary Su?"
"Secretary Su has been reassigned to the advertising department as deputy director!"
Bai Mei replied.
This reassignment of Su Xiaomin was news to the three, as they hadn’t visited yesterday, unaware Xia Lan had directly reassigned Su Xiaomin.
They exchanged glances, suspecting that Xia Lan might have lost trust in Su Xiaomin.
Upon entering, they saw Xia Lan busy at her desk, focused on her computer.
In the center of the desk hung a portrait, depicting Li Fei in a suit he wore when alive. Strangely, seeing the portrait filled the three with fear.
"Secretary Bai, is there any issue with the company now?"
Feng Zhiqiang asked curiously.
"No problem at all!"
Typically, any major issues within the hotel were preemptively addressed by Ye Qiu, who had delegated solutions to Xia Lan.
Like the incident yesterday where a tour group collectively checked out, Xia Lan had sent someone to resolve the issue following Ye Qiu’s advice, with notable success.
Thus, Bai Mei wasn’t swamped like yesterday.
Xia Lan paused her work, initially hoping it was Ye Qiu arriving, but felt disappointed upon realizing it was Feng Zhiqiang and the others.
"You’re here?"
Xia Lan asked.
"Sister-in-law, we came to check the hotel’s situation, and there’s something else, though I’m not sure if you’re aware of it."
