Chapter 1005: Chapter 1005: Rich but No Life to Spend

The side effects of chemotherapy are extremely painful. After undergoing chemotherapy, An Lijun and Deng Zhiyong woke up feeling more miserable than during the treatment last night.

They even began to feel a kind of pain worse than that of dying.

However, if they don’t undergo treatment now, they both fear they might die even sooner.

An Lijun woke up faster than Deng Zhiyong. After falling asleep last night following the treatment, he was haunted by nightmares, repeatedly dreaming of Li Fei.

In the dream, Li Fei was cursing him angrily, even saying that he was waiting for him below.

So, when An Lijun woke up, drenched in sweat, the nurse who checked him thought it was odd.

Could this be the side effects of chemotherapy on An Lijun?

Otherwise, why would he be sweating so much?

Recalling last night’s nightmare, An Lijun became increasingly afraid.

He felt he was still young, and now that he had money, it was the time to enjoy life. He didn’t want to meet Li Fei so soon; he wanted to live well.

But now, when he saw his parents and wife, he felt pain in his throat and esophagus, making talking and swallowing increasingly difficult.

He couldn’t express himself.

Seeing his condition, An Lijun’s wife worried he might suddenly pass away, assuming he wanted to discuss the matter of inheritance.

"Do you want to talk about the inheritance? I will quickly find a lawyer."

As soon as An Lijun’s wife said this, his face turned even grimmer.

He never thought his wife would think about that.

His parents, however, felt their son was not thinking about such things. So, his father asked, "Lijun, what do you want to say?"

"I, I want you to help me burn incense at Li Fei’s tombstone."

An Lijun said many times, but his parents couldn’t hear clearly.

Finally, An Lijun had to take out his phone and painstakingly type out the words.

His family had heard of Li Fei and even met him, knowing that Li Fei and An Lijun were business partners. They also knew Li Fei had passed away recently.

Now, An Lijun’s parents and wife hadn’t expected he wanted them to go burn incense on his behalf.

Just yesterday was the Mid-Autumn Festival, and now he’s asking them to go burn incense for Li Fei.

An Lijun had already shared the detailed location of the Cemetery where Li Fei was buried; all it took was a taxi ride to get there.

"Why go pay tribute to him?"

His wife asked.

An Lijun didn’t say much more.

For he and Deng Zhiyong had done something wrong to Li Fei; only they knew about it and he didn’t mention the dream from last night.

"Let’s go then."

An Lijun’s parents said no more, noted the location, then left the Affiliated Hospital to find a place selling incense, joss paper, and candles. They bought these things and took a taxi to the Cemetery.

Normally, people visited cemeteries to pay respects during the Qingming Festival and Double Ninth Festival; it was rare to do so at other times.

Now, with Double Ninth Festival still far off, the taxi driver was puzzled but asked nothing as they traveled.

Arriving at the Cemetery in the suburbs by taxi, the two got off and paid the fare, asking the taxi driver not to leave quickly.

They went inside to find Li Fei’s tombstone.

They found the tombstone very new, clearly recently buried, with dried flowers placed before it, though some broken stems remained.

The two took out the incense and joss paper they bought, looked at each other, then swiftly burned them. An Lijun’s mother said, "Mr. Li, Mr. Li, I’m here on behalf of my son to burn incense; please bless him with a cure."

They assumed Li Fei and An Lijun had a good relationship, not suspecting anything.

After burning incense and joss paper and leaving offerings, the two hurriedly left the Cemetery, feeling apprehensive due to the array of tombstones, which seemed terrifying.

They emerged from the Cemetery, got back into the taxi, and returned.

Back at the Jinling Affiliated Hospital, An Lijun’s parents returned to his hospital room to find him resting.

Meanwhile, Deng Zhiyong’s parents and wife came to find An Lijun’s parents, wanting to pay respects to Li Fei as well.

However, An Lijun’s parents had just returned from doing so.

"You also want to pay tribute to Mr. Li?"

"Zhiyong just told us, Li Fei appeared in his dreams, saying he’s penniless down there, so he wants us to offer him money."

Undoubtedly, when Deng Zhiyong said this, these three became more frightened.

The three didn’t know about Deng Zhiyong, Li Fei, and the affairs with the Eiffel Chain Hotel.

Just last night, after chemotherapy, Deng Zhiyong fell into a deep sleep, haunted by nightmares. As they say, what you think about during the day, you dream of at night. Deng Zhiyong, struck by sudden cancer, and at the advanced stage of stomach cancer, thought it might be retribution and immediately thought of Li Fei.

Unexpectedly, while dreaming last night, he kept dreaming of Li Fei.

But Li Fei wasn’t asking for money; instead, he wanted him to follow him down.

In the dream, Deng Zhiyong was lucid, remembering Li Fei was dead, never again in this world, wondering how he could follow him down.

Thus, when Deng Zhiyong woke up, he was also drenched in cold sweat, immediately thinking to have his parents and wife pay respects to Li Fei for him.

He hadn’t expected that, upon going to find An Lijun’s parents together, they had already reminisced from their visit.

"We just finished paying respects for Lijun; you go now!"

An Lijun’s parents said.

Having just returned, they naturally wouldn’t go again.

So Deng Zhiyong’s parents and wife bought some incense, joss paper, and joss paper money, then went to the Cemetery where Li Fei was buried.

As An Lijun’s parents worriedly watched their son, An Lijun stared blankly, feeling even more terror.

As a seasoned businessman, he’d only ever believed in money, never in ghosts or spirits.

But now, faced with these events, he began to believe that perhaps there were truly things better left untouched in this world.

He now had money, but soon enough, he might be left without life.

No matter how much money he had, he feared he couldn’t enjoy it now.

What shocked him more was that both he and Deng Zhiyong had ended up with cancer simultaneously, and at advanced stages, yet he didn’t know if Feng Zhiqiang and the others were alright.

Thinking of this, An Lijun immediately took out his phone, asking his parents to contact those three.

An Lijun’s parents knew of Feng Zhiqiang and the others, but given their unfamiliarity with An Lijun, they assumed his illness made him want them to visit or there was something he wanted to discuss with them.
