Chapter 954: Chapter 0954: Playing Basketball
Ye Qiu was just about to get to his car and leave Jin University to check on Shen Yueru and the company at Xingyue Group when unexpectedly, he saw Luo Yang and Zhou Shaohui, dressed in basketball jerseys, getting ready to play basketball.
Apart from Ning Yun, Luo Yang, Zhou Shaohui, Xu Xingrong, and Zhang Dayao were all there.
"Brother Qiu, let’s go play basketball!"
Luo Yang spotted Ye Qiu and wanted to call him over to join the game.
However, the afternoon sun was still pretty harsh, and playing basketball would definitely make him sweat a lot and feel uncomfortable.
Ye Qiu didn’t seem very interested in basketball either.
"We’re just short of one player, plus we’re getting slaughtered by other classes!"
Luo Yang, with his tall stature, standing over six feet, was very suitable for playing basketball.
Previously, due to heart disease fears, he never dared to play basketball. But after getting better thanks to Ye Qiu, he just started getting into basketball during the winter break.
At Jin University, besides attending classes and playing games, basketball was the most common activity.
"Isn’t it too hot?"
Ye Qiu said.
"We have indoor courts!"
The university campus, including the nearby college town, was quite large, with the college town having plenty of basketball courts.
Basketball courts are much smaller compared to soccer fields, so Jin University had only three soccer fields but around a dozen basketball courts, including outdoor and indoor ones.
With the heat outside, students preferred playing indoors unless the sun had set.
"Let’s go check it out then."
Ye Qiu followed Luo Yang and the others to an indoor basketball court.
Expecting few people, Ye Qiu and Luo Yang were surprised to find many students already playing basketball when they got there.
Of course, there were only a few indoor courts, so if students occupied them from the start, latecomers wouldn’t get a chance.
Generally, games were organized into rotations, each group playing for fifteen minutes. Winners continued playing, while losers swapped out, which was quite fair.
When Luo Yang came alone earlier, he would team up with students from other classes. Picking good players meant longer playtime.
But some players didn’t cooperate well, scored less, and were quickly benched, waiting for the next round.
Now teaming up with Zhou Shaohui and the others, Luo Yang was also looking for another tall person, hoping to play several rounds.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Ye Qiu.
"Big Luo, just in time. Join our team; we’re missing one person."
Another guy from the Physical Education Department said.
Jin University also boasted a Physical Education Department, whose students, despite low college entrance scores, excelled in sports, from basketball, soccer, to long jump and running.
Most playing basketball there were special talent students in basketball, standing over six feet tall.
With an annual college basketball league, performing well could earn major prizes, giving these students incentive beyond personal training and school coaching to play basketball during leisure.
Aside from Luo Yang, other students didn’t impress them much.
"We’ve got enough people!"
Luo Yang said.
Those Physical Education Department guys looked over; besides Luo Yang, Zhou Shaohui and the others had average heights, with Zhang Dayao only standing a little over five feet. As for Ye Qiu, he was around five feet eight, with a slim build — how could he be suited for basketball?
"Brother Qiu, don’t you want to change into some basketball gear first?"
"No need."
Ye Qiu was dressed in a faded shirt, worn-out jeans, and knock-off sneakers.
This left Luo Yang and Zhou Shaohui thinking the outfit was unsuitable for playing basketball, especially when moving around; jeans could easily tear.
"I’ll go draw lots with them first."
Luo Yang went over with the other team captains to draw lots using a basketball, naturally arranging the sequence.
Quickly, the draw was over, with Luo Yang being quite lucky, ranking third. That meant after the first two teams finished, losers left, winners stayed, and then it was their turn.
Fifteen minutes passed quickly.
Ye Qiu certainly knew basketball, though he hadn’t played before, neither had the previous Ye Qiu nor the current one.
Sitting there watching the match, he could tell both teams were about evenly matched, and with it being a fresh game, their energy was still high.
After fifteen minutes, one team scored twenty points, the other fifteen.
Obviously, the twenty-point team stayed.
When it was Ye Qiu and Luo Yang’s turn, because Luo Yang didn’t know Ye Qiu’s skill level, he asked, "Brother Qiu, have you played basketball before?"
Ye Qiu shook his head.
"Are you fast then?"
"Should be okay."
As soon as Ye Qiu finished speaking, the other team laughed, considering it suicidal for someone who had never played before to challenge them here.
With Ye Qiu’s slim build, they thought he might be easily knocked down.
Obviously, Luo Yang planned to cooperate, using his height to secure rebounds and scores, while also guarding the opponent’s top player.
Regarding Zhou Shaohui, Zhang Dayao, and Ye Qiu, Luo Yang thought as long as they coordinated well, steal the ball, and pass it to him, there was a chance they could win.
But that chance seemed slim.
Luo Yang and the opposing team’s players stood in the center. Without a referee present, the ball was tossed up, and both sides jumped to grab it.
In the first round, Luo Yang took the ball with clear advantage, passing it to Zhou Shaohui, who dribbled and then passed to Ye Qiu.
By then, three opponents had surrounded Ye Qiu.
In Luo Yang’s view, Ye Qiu would surely be robbed.
But shockingly, Ye Qiu’s dribbling and speed were remarkable, the three couldn’t catch up.
How could this be?
Wasn’t this kid playing basketball for the first time?
And astonishingly, he managed so well despite his casual outfit?
The opposing five players were in disbelief.
Seeing Luo Yang under the hoop, Ye Qiu quickly passed the ball to him, resulting in Luo Yang dunking it effortlessly.
The ball went in, instantly scoring two points.
That moment left surrounding basketball players and the opposing team stunned.
Luo Yang, a tall guy with four seemingly inexperienced teammates, unexpectedly seemed to have the upper hand now?
Especially with that ordinary-looking kid just now — how did he look so different from before!
