Chapter 913: Chapter 0913: Helena Follows Along
By the time they finished the buffet, it was already past eleven in the morning. Coming down from the top floor of the Empire Building, Ye Qiu, Louise, and Zhou Wenting each got into their cars and left Paris, heading towards the Eastern Castle.
Along the way, Helena, seated in the passenger seat, appeared incredibly excited.
She had been to France many times before, but she had never ventured into the French countryside. Her trips had always been to the coastlines or the major cities of France.
Ye Qiu noticed, as expected, you get what you pay for—this car felt much smoother to drive than merely sitting inside.
In France, cars like this were comparatively inexpensive, but back in Huaxia, they were quite pricey.
"Dr. Ye, do you really live here?"
Helena asked.
"I’m staying here temporarily,"
Ye Qiu replied.
...
As they approached the Eastern Castle from a distance, Ye Qiu already spotted the grand structure. Driving further ahead, he saw vast areas of vineyards spread out before his eyes.
When they finally reached the castle gates, Ye Qiu parked the car first. Two middle-aged maids at the door, who hadn’t expected Ye Qiu to return, hurriedly came forward and respectfully greeted him.
"Young Master Ye."
Ye Qiu opened the car door and stepped out. Helena also opened her door and got out as well. She was somewhat stunned—she hadn’t expected Ye Qiu to really own a castle.
"This is Miss Helena, an Italian,"
Ye Qiu introduced.
"Miss Helena, how do you do?"
The two middle-aged maids greeted her.
Now that Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting arrived in two Bentley luxury cars, parked directly at the entrance, it no longer gave off the frugal impression from before.
"Young Master Ye, you’re back."
The housekeeper Eugene, dressed in his formal butler’s uniform, quickly walked over.
Aside from noticing the two new Bentley luxury cars, his gaze also landed on the stunning yet unfamiliar woman Ye Qiu had brought along.
"This is Miss Helena. And this is Housekeeper Eugene,"
Ye Qiu introduced.
After Helena and Housekeeper Eugene exchanged greetings, Eugene said, "Young Master Ye, let me prepare lunch for you."
"No need; we’ve already eaten. Let’s first see how the grape harvest is going,"
Ye Qiu replied.
Machines were incredibly fast at harvesting. If done manually—snipping each bunch one at a time—it would take a long time. But with machines, driving through the vineyard would send loads of grape bunches straight into the equipment.
This vineyard, spanning over 200,000 square meters, had almost been completely harvested by the nonstop operation of the machines. The grapes were then promptly transported to the winery for processing.
Walking towards the winery, Ye Qiu noticed Helena trailing behind him like a shadow. Entering the winery, employees transferred from Count Charley’s estate were meticulously sorting grapes round the clock. They were removing defective ones—rotten, under-ripe, or not full enough. These could only be sorted manually.
Of course, it was possible to skip the sorting process, but during fermentation, an excess of impurities would result in wine of inferior taste.
For Ye Qiu, everything except the harvesting was done by hand. Unlike other wineries, his wines were entirely handcrafted. Whether they could surpass the caliber of Lafite and reach world-class levels depended on his secret recipe for handmade wine.
Ye Qiu was confident—this was once the most advanced winemaking formula of the royal family, which had already been lost to time.
After surveying the winery, Helena curiously asked, "Dr. Ye, is this your winery?"
"What do you think?"
Ye Qiu answered lightly.
Helena had figured it out by now.
She had assumed Ye Qiu was simply a doctor proficient in medical skills. She hadn’t expected him to also own a castle and vineyards—he clearly wasn’t lacking in wealth.
What she didn’t know was that the castle and vineyards had all been acquired through Ye Qiu’s medical prowess.
At the vineyard side, the trellises that had supported the harvested grapes would need repair. Workers would be hired to fix them in preparation for the next year’s healthy grape cultivation.
After finishing their survey of the vineyard, they returned to the Eastern Castle. Ye Qiu turned to the two middle-aged maids and said, "Prepare a separate guest room for Miss Helena. Also, ensure there’s a room arranged for her two bodyguards."
"Yes, Young Master Ye."
Returning to the castle truly felt like coming home. But with a vast estate like the Eastern Castle, boasting over a hundred rooms, only about a dozen were actively used by the owner—the rest remained unoccupied.
Helena had stayed in European castles before. Many countries in Europe had castles, and there were also quite a few in Italy. But this was her first time staying in a French castle.
Ye Qiu returned to his room to gather his thoughts about his current situation.
Plans and tasks changed daily, making it impossible for him to arrange everything in advance.
After entering the room, he set down his bag and opened the window. With a flap, something flew out. At first, Ye Qiu thought it was one of those red-eyed, white-furred bats, but to his surprise, it was a white dove. Who was raising these birds?
The white doves were prettier than the red-eyed bats, but they left too much droppings, which were corrosive and made things dirty over time.
That said, in a place like this castle, the doves were relatively harmless compared to the bats, which left even more waste.
Just as Ye Qiu sat down, he decided to step out and call one of the maids to bring him a cup of tea.
Compared to Count Charley’s place, Ye Qiu found this castle a bit understaffed—just two maids weren’t very convenient. However, hiring more help would be wasteful once he returned to Jinling.
Ye Qiu had a clear preference for diligent Huaxia workers. He planned to have Housekeeper Eugene visit the Chinatown in Paris to hire a few Chinese or overseas Chinese to work and clean this estate.
If anyone could cook proper stir-fried dishes, it would be ideal—then he wouldn’t have to put up with Eugene’s mediocre French cuisine anymore.
...
Helena was led by one of the middle-aged maids into a clean and well-prepared guest room. The room had all the essentials like a bed and desk, but it lacked modern appliances such as a television, refrigerator, or computer.
Still, Helena liked it a lot.
Speaking in French, the maid said something Helena couldn’t understand. After the maid left, Helena closed the door and took out her phone to call her father.
"Father, I’m no longer in Paris,"
she said.
"Helena, where are you?"
her father asked.
"I followed the doctor who saved me and Enzo to his castle. I plan to stay here for some time."
"Just stay safe,"
her father replied on the other end.
...
After ending the call, Helena stood by the window. She realized she could see the ocean in the distance. She wondered whether she was now at the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea.
