Chapter 130: Episode 89 Yuejiao

Hua Xiaomai looked up and met Guan Rong’s tearful, pitiful eyes, instantly feeling a chill up her spine, and her mouth twitched involuntarily.

This girl is really something, she had just shamelessly torn her face at the riverbank in front of so many people. Did you really expect me to turn around and link arms with you again, acting like sweet best friends?

You must be joking.

She didn’t speak for a moment, and Guan Rong suddenly seemed to see hope, quickly grabbing her hand and earnestly reflected, "Xiaomai, I know I was wrong, it was totally shameful of me. You’re right to be angry! But... could you really not forgive me this time? I promise I won’t do it again! We’ve been around each other for so long, and even if we aren’t exactly like sisters, we still share some bond. I don’t have many friends in this village..."

Bond? What bond? The kind where I’m the fool who lets you take advantage of me?

Hua Xiaomai, somewhat helplessly, rolled her eyes and cracked a smile: "I know it’s not a big deal, after all, I wasn’t at a loss, but... who asked me to be born with a bit of a stingy nature since I left the womb? How about..."

She suddenly presented her open palm to Guan Rong, with a half-smile, and said, "Sister Rong, how about you give back the five hundred wen you made selling bamboo shoots and the two hundred wen you earned recommending me to Brother Li’s house for the feast? With that money, I’d feel peaceful and happy, and we could let bygones be bygones. How does that sound?"

You’ve taken advantage of me for so long, letting me get a bit of benefit isn’t too much, right?

Guan Rong choked, involuntarily stepped back, and put her hands behind her back: "That..."

"What, you can’t part with it?" Hua Xiaomai raised an eyebrow, regretfully spreading her hands, "Then I’ve got no choice!"

With that, she walked away, but after a few steps, she suddenly turned back.

"Oh, right, there’s another thing I’ve been meaning to ask you. That day at the riverbank, I vaguely heard footsteps from the woods, which honestly scared me half to death—that was you, right? Were you there to check how my stall was doing, or... were you eagerly looking at Meng Family’s big brother? You put so much effort into it, and he doesn’t even know, all those tears you shed for him were in vain!"

Guan Rong’s shoulders trembled violently, her hands at her sides clenched her clothes tightly, the tears that were just brimming in her eyes a moment ago had vanished, replaced by blazing flames.

Hua Xiaomai let out a sigh of relief, feeling incredibly satisfied. She couldn’t be bothered to talk more with her, chuckled, and turned around to stroll back light-heartedly to the Jing Family courtyard.

Because it was very hot, before going out in the afternoon, Hua Xiaomai had boiled a pot of coix seed and mung bean soup and chilled it in the well water, planning to have a bowl with Mom Hua and Jing Taihe after coming back from the stall in the evening to cool off.

Mom Hua came back home first, tidied everything up neatly, and then took the mung bean soup into the courtyard, scooped a bowl for Jing Taihe, and looked up to see Hua Xiaomai had returned. She immediately dropped what she was holding and came over to greet her.

"How did it go, what did that annoying girl ramble on about this time?" She grabbed Hua Xiaomai’s hand at the gate of the courtyard, sneakily glanced outside, and said through gritted teeth, "She’s so good at feeding people her crazy potions. You better not have been bought over by a few words from her, or we’d have wasted our whole evening!"

"Do you think I’m that foolish?" Hua Xiaomai giggled and stuck out her tongue at her, "I made up my mind, no matter what she says, I treat it like she’s singing. As for cunning, I could chase her on horseback and still not catch up. I can’t deal with her, so I’ll just stay away from her, makes it easier for everyone!"

Having said that, she scooted to the table, directly scooped a spoonful of mung bean soup from the pot, and gulped down two mouthfuls.

Mom Hua outright declared, "That’s how it should be," then seeing her do that, she slapped her on the back and scolded, "Disgusting!" Jing Taihe beside them laughed generously, handing over a bowl: "Let your sister be, we’re all family; who holds grudges against family?"

"She’s unruly, and it’s right for me to discipline her. Instead of helping me, you always pamper her. If she gets into trouble with her in-laws in the future, I’m blaming you!" Mom Hua glared at her husband, though inside she felt sweet as honey. She served a bowl of mung bean soup for Hua Xiaomai and pushed it towards her, adding, "Speaking of getting into trouble with in-laws, there’s something else you need to know."
