Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Training of Perseverance! (3 more)
Cousin?
Ling Feng narrowed his eyes slightly but paid no heed in his heart. It didn’t matter who she was; as long as she didn’t bother him, that was fine.
The coquettish woman turned her head and saw Deng Yongshi hurrying over, then she cast a meaningful glance at Lyng and hooked a taunting smile at her lips, "Shi, is this a friend of yours? Giggles, since when can men also stay at your Youlan Small House?"
"Humph! Mind your own business!" Deng Yongshi seemed to have a bad relationship with that coquettish woman. She took a quick step to stand between Ling Feng and the woman, fuming as she glared at her and said sternly, "This was my grandfather’s decision. If you have a complaint, go talk to him!"
"Oh, so this boy is the teacher grandpa found for you? Hahaha, how hilarious. Is he supposed to be your future husband or your teacher? He looks way too young for either!"
Deng Yongshi’s face flushed with anger, and her chest heaved, "That’s none of your business! Get lost!"
"Ts ts ts, how the colors of friendship fade!" The woman turned her head to look at Ling Feng and laughed, "Then I won’t disturb the sweet nothings between you two, I’ll be going!"
With that said, the coquettish woman walked away with a smile.
Deng Yongshi watched the woman leave, grinding her teeth, then snorted softly and muttered with a laugh, "What a stinky woman!"
Ling Feng crossed his arms in front of his chest and shrugged nonchalantly, "Sometimes, not caring about other people’s gossip is part of refining the heart."
"I know, I know!" Deng Yongshi turned back to give Ling Feng a look, "You don’t need to act all high and mighty like a teacher all the time!"
"Uh..." Ling Feng touched his nose and changed the subject, "By the way, who is she? Your relationship doesn’t seem too great."
Hearing this, Deng Yongshi immediately began to complain angrily, "She’s my cousin, her name is Lee Rong. Just look at her, you can tell she’s no good. You’re better off staying away from her in the future."
"You don’t need to tell me that," Ling Feng shrugged again, "But what was she doing here without cause?"
"What else!" Deng Yongshi rolled her eyes, "She’s here to put me in my place! That damn woman, once she heard grandpa found me a teacher, she just had to come over to deflate my ego."
"What does one have to do with the other?"
"Humph, do you think teachers are just picked randomly? That damn woman’s teacher is a deputy dean at the Sea Blue Academy, a Fifth-rank Advanced Alchemist! And my teacher..."
Deng Yongshi turned to glance at Ling Feng, "Pah, pah, pah, you’re not my teacher! Humph, you’re nothing to boast about! I’m warning you, though I’ll train with you, don’t expect me to call you ’teacher’ in front of others. You can forget it!"
Ling Feng felt a slight headache and a wave of frustration: why did she think he wasn’t anything to boast about?
And what was so impressive about a Fifth-rank Alchemist?
Even Yan Cangtian, a top Sixth-level Alchemist, wouldn’t dare to claim that his mastery of the Alchemy Dao was above him!
Murmuring to himself, Ling Feng couldn’t help but feel both annoyed and amused. He took a deep breath and said evenly, "Fine, fine, fine, I’m the one embarrassing you! Let’s start today’s training then!"
"Humph, let’s get started, who’s afraid? It’s just rolling around in the mud!" Deng Yongshi clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth, "How many hours for today?"
"We won’t be rolling in the mud today; your performance yesterday was already good." Ling Feng shrugged lightly and continued, "Yesterday, I made you shatter your own pride and conquer yourself. Today, I’ll teach you something else, perseverance!"
"Perseverance?"
"Come with me."
Ling Feng gave a faint smile and led Deng Yongshi to the backyard of the Tianyi Pavilion, where hundreds of irregularly sized stones lay piled up, all prepared by him the day before.
"As long as you stack these stones into six human-height stone pillars, you will have completed the task," Ling Feng said, hands behind his back, his voice calm.
"What?"
Deng Yongshi’s eyes widened indignantly, "Hey, you must be kidding, right? How can these stones be stacked! And my meridians are sealed, I can’t possibly polish these stones with my palms!"
"With perseverance, you can do it," Ling Feng replied, as serene as ever, "The choice is yours, as always. You can choose not to do it if you wish."
"Hmph, let’s stack, who’s afraid!" Deng Yongshi bit her silver teeth, rolled up her sleeves, and charged into the yard, grunting as she began to move the stones and attempt to slowly stack them up.
Ling Feng smiled faintly, "To be willing to start trying is to have already succeeded halfway. Keep it up!"
Having said this, Ling Feng sat down cross-legged and closed his eyes, beginning to activate the "Xuanyuan True Technique."
Deng Yongshi showed some tenacity, continually trying and failing, but never giving up.
At last, her hands were raw from the effort, her clothes had become tattered and dirty, and her face was streaked like a tabby cat’s, yet she kept on trying.
One hour...
Two hours...
Three hours...
Gradually, as the sun set into the twilight, Deng Yongshi had worked in the courtyard all day and finally stacked up the first human-height pillar.
"Ha-ha-ha! Awesome, I finally made it!"
Deng Yongshi jumped up excitedly, wiping her dirty cheeks with her dirty sleeves, yet her face was filled with sheer excitement.
This was a happiness she had never felt before; accomplishing something on her own efforts was so thrilling.
Then, Ling Feng finally opened his eyes, slowly stood up, and walked into the courtyard, glancing at the stone pillar and said, "First, congratulations on successfully stacking the first pillar, but what about the rest?"
Ling Feng pointed to the other stones in the yard, "You’re smart; you knew to choose the most regular and similarly sized blocks, which shows you’ve thought about it, and that’s commendable. But how will you stack the remaining stones?"
"This..." Deng Yongshi calmed down from her excitement, having used up the best stones, what about those of strange shapes?
"The balance between the stones, the maintenance of their center of gravity, learning how to match them and place them, that’s the training to forge your perseverance," Ling Feng said lightly.
"I got it." Deng Yongshi’s eyes reddened slightly, looking at the stone pillar she had struggled to erect, she gritted her teeth and pushed it over to start all over again.
"Stinky..." Deng Yongshi bit her lip, then changed her tone, "Hey, don’t think I can be so easily discouraged. I can definitely stack up all six pillars!"
With that, she started to move the stones again, busying herself once more.
"You have the courage to ’Break and then stand,’ which has indeed impressed me," Ling Feng nodded and smiled faintly, "Alright, today’s training ends here. We’ll continue tomorrow."
"No need, I don’t need to rest! I want to stack up all the pillars as soon as possible!" Deng Yongshi’s eyes shone with determination, as she lifted the biggest stone, clenched her silver teeth, and declared, "This is the first one!"
