Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Demon Slaying Mission! (2 more)
"In the Northern Seven Counties, a serial killer has emerged, relentlessly slaughtering more than twenty border villages!"
Vice Principal Tong Chengtai frowned deeply as he came across such a scroll in his office; he continued reading and immediately stood up in anger upon seeing the descriptions of the innocent villagers’ gruesome deaths.
"Heinous and perverse, they dare to practice their craft on the living!"
"Vice Principal, this is the news transmitted back to us by our Heavenly Position Academy’s liaison point in the north. According to the latest information, that demon seems to have already reached the Beiliang Commandery, and three nights ago, he committed a massive crime, slaughtering over a hundred and sixty villagers in Grass Temple Village."
A Nine-star Tutor stood solemnly across from Tong Chengtai, speaking with heavy gravity.
"Hmph, completely devoid of conscience!" Tong Chengtai clenched the scroll tightly, took a deep breath, and slowly said, "Hmm, the vice principal has already been made aware of this, so I will convey it to the Principal and the other Vice Principals. It seems that our Heavenly Position Academy needs to issue a Demon Slaying task!"
It was well known that the mission of the Four Great Universities was to provide the Empire with elite talents, and when any anomalies occurred within the Empire, the Four Great Universities would issue Demon Slaying tasks to assist the military in capturing these evil demons and demon path cultivators.
Such tasks often entailed considerable danger; therefore, the rewards were generally high, and upon successful completion, one could even receive commendation from the Empire.
Given the network of the Four Great Universities, they would certainly have received this news, so they would soon issue similar "Demon Slaying tasks."
"If that’s the case, I will take my leave first." The Nine-star Tutor bowed and then left the Vice Principal’s office.
Tong Chengtai, looking at the scroll, tapped the desktop and muttered to himself, "This demon, since he only dares to ambush border villages without Martial Artists, probably isn’t very strong; and judging by his methods, he must be only a novice in the demonic way..."
After pondering for a moment, Tong Chengtai nodded slightly, "It seems suitable to let Xian’er gain some experience through this, to accumulate some combat experience with demon cultivators."
"In addition, we’ll allocate four more slots, that should suffice. Hmm, let’s also give that kid Ling Feng a chance!"
With these thoughts, Tong Chengtai drafted a notice for the Demon Slaying task which only needed the Principal’s nod before it could be officially issued.
...
Everything went as Tong Chengtai predicted. Soon, Principal Mu Yun Sang nodded his approval, gave full authority to Tong Chengtai to release this "Demon Slaying task," and then stamped it with his Big Seal.
Tong Chengtai immediately found his beloved disciple, Lin Xian’er, and handed her the Demon Slaying task scroll directly.
"A Demon Slaying task?"
Upon receiving the scroll from her mentor, Lin Xian’er’s eyes widened in surprise, "Teacher, you... you’re not joking, right? With my strength, I’m probably not yet fit to undertake a Demon Slaying task, am I?"
As Tong Chengtai’s student and assistant, Lin Xian’er naturally understood what a Demon Slaying task entailed.
Although it posed certain risks, it was undeniably a great opportunity to distinguish oneself and gain recognition, and the rewards for a Demon Slaying task were unquestionably generous; even the least difficult tasks were usually rated at least Class A Five Stars.
"If it were just you alone, of course, success wouldn’t be guaranteed. However, there are four other spots, and you can choose the team members yourself."
Tong Chengtai stroked his beard and smiled, saying, "Xian’er, teacher knows that you and that Kid Feng have always gotten along well, so let’s choose that Kid Feng for the second slot."
"Teacher!" Lin Xian’er’s pretty face blushed as she glanced at Tong Chengtai reproachfully and said embarrassedly, "That’s not true!"
"Hahaha..." Tong Chengtai laughed heartily. "I’ve lived a long life—I can tell, you know. If not, then let’s not assign that Kid Feng to this task."
"No, no, Xian’er didn’t mean that," Lin Xian’er bit her delicate lip and with a twinkle in her eyes, she added: "What about the remaining three slots?"
"All those around that Kid Feng are from the East Courtyard Sword Team, aren’t they? Just get that Goo Tengfeng kid to join in, and there will be basically no danger. As for the other two slots, you or that Kid Feng can decide."
"Mhm, mhm, mhm." Lin Xian’er nodded hurriedly as her gorgeous large eyes rolled thoughtfully before she quickly said, "Then can I invite Senior Sister Yun to join us?"
The Senior Sister Yun mentioned by Lin Xian’er was named Yun Yiyi, the girl who Lin Xian’er was with when Ling Feng first entered the A-class Disciple area to look for the East Courtyard Sword Team.
"Since I’ve already left the decision to you, why ask me?" Tong Chengtai laughed loudly. "Well then, go on and recruit your team. Remember, once you undertake the task, you must bear the honor of the Heavenly Position Academy. I suspect the other universities have issued the same task, and I hope our Heavenly Position Academy can complete this task perfectly and swiftly!"
"I understand," Lin Xian’er said, nodding her head. She bowed to Tong Chengtai and then, clutching the scroll, left the Vice Dean’s office.
Excited, Lin Xian’er went to find her Senior Sister Yun and, after explaining her purpose, Yun Yiyi, although a little worried, quickly agreed.
"That’s great, Senior Sister Yun, let’s go recruit the other team members together!" Lin Xian’er hugged Yun Yiyi’s arm and chirped cheerfully.
"Ah? Who shall we look for?" Yun Yiyi blinked, asking, "Xian’er, are we going to the Task Hall?"
"Not at all, I’ve already thought of other teammates," Lin Xian’er said with a mysterious smile.
"Already thought of them?" Yun Yiyi’s eyes gleamed as she suddenly smirked suggestively, "Little Xian’er, is it that Ling Feng you’re always talking about?"
"Pfft, nonsense, I don’t talk about him all the time!" Lin Xian’er’s face flushed red and she glared at Yun Yiyi.
"Ha ha, you silly girl, your face is all red, and you still say it’s not so?"
"Stinky Senior Sister, if you keep spouting nonsense, I won’t take you along!" Lin Xian’er glared at Yun Yiyi indignantly, pulling her trump card.
"Okay, okay, I’ll stop. Teehee..." Yun Yiyi covered her mouth, giggling secretly.
"And remember, when we get in front of Ling Feng later, you better not spout nonsense, or you’ll see what I’ll do to you when we get back!" Lin Xian’er sternly warned Yun Yiyi, worried she might speak out of turn in front of Ling Feng.
Girls are inherently shy, and although she did have a fondness for Ling Feng, that layer of paper between them, whatever happened, could not be pierced.
"I got it, I got it!" Yun Yiyi pinched Lin Xian’er’s cheek, saying, "I don’t know what’s so great about that Ling Feng, but he has our little Xian’er head over heels. The last time, someone heard he had died in the Wind and Thunder Sword Tower, oh those little tears..."
"Ahhhh! Stinky Senior Sister, I’m going to rip your mouth off!"
Lin Xian’er suddenly became frantic, lunging at Yun Yiyi in a huff, which sent Yun Yiyi hastily running for the hills...
