In fact, Roger wanted to recruit Andrae into his training team since he was qualified enough to be a training partner.

But Roger wouldn’t directly tell Andrae to give up his NBA dream and drop out of school to help him.

He’d wait until Andrae was willing, then bring him in.

It wouldn’t be too late.

The next day, Roger attended his first championship parade.

This was also Orlando’s first championship parade, but it was organized quite uniquely.

The players’ double-decker bus was completely filled with princesses, truly a first in history.

Don’t misunderstand, they were all Disney princesses.

Previously, because the team had missed Disney’s June 1st parade, they agreed to let Disney World participate in this championship parade.

Therefore, it probably was the most fairy-tale-like championship parade ever.

Mid-parade, Ron Harper elbowed Roger, “Hey buddy, that Snow White there just asked if it would be possible to have dinner with you.”

Following the direction Harper was pointing, Roger saw a very robust, and indeed very pale Snow White gently waving at him.

In an era before zzzq swept over America, the Disney-selected Snow White actresses still looked the part.

Those prominent white spheres were indeed Roger’s type.

But he still had reservations, “Forget it, Ron.

I don’t want to make a move on a children’s fairy-tale character.”

“She’s the Snow White the kids adore, but how do you know she won’t turn into a controlling queen at night?

Relax, Roger, we all know you broke up with that model.

Hey, a champion shouldn’t be lonely all summer.”

“Well…

listening to a fairy tale now and then isn’t too bad.”

“Here, take this,” Harper sneaked a packet into Roger’s hands.

“What?”

“Chili powder.”

“Ah, this…”

“Hehe, even though you are the Finals MVP now, you still need to learn more from us veterans.”

As they chatted, the parade bus reached its destination.

There, countless fans along with officials from the Orlando city government were waiting.

When it was Roger’s turn to speak on stage, he only talked about the most crucial matter:

“Yes, I will opt out of my contract this summer, but that doesn’t mean I’ll leave Orlando.

I will definitely stay, I want to bring more championships to Orlando with Shaq!”

Undoubtedly, this was the news that Orlando fans were most eager to hear in today’s championship parade.

Last night, Rich DeVos had personally promised Roger, “We’ll offer you a new contract slightly above the benchmark of Patrick Ewing.”

DeVos certainly knew James Dolan was wealthy, with the backing of Cablevision and New York being one of the league’s top revenue-generating teams.

New York offering Ewing a multimillion annual salary was set in stone.

But DeVos needed to keep Roger if he wanted the Magic to keep turning a profit.

He had to make sure Roger stayed.

At least while the return on investment was still very favorable, DeVos was willing to spend the money.

He knew they needed to re-sign Shaq in 1996, and the team would be under a lot of pressure.

But for now, he couldn’t worry about that; securing Roger was the priority.

Considerations for 1996 would have to wait until ’96.

With DeVos’s commitment, Roger reassured the fans today.

Of course, Roger never said he would never leave Orlando.

He never promised anything he wasn’t sure of.

A real man doesn’t need to make five promises a day, but he must keep the promises he makes.

The night after the championship parade, Roger watched the draft broadcast live with Kobe and Andrae.

This year’s draft was a bit different from history because the Minnesota Timberwolves got the second draft pick.

This alone proved at least the NBA draft of 1995 wasn’t rigged by David Stern.

Roger was curious about who the Timberwolves would choose with the second pick.

At the start of the draft, the Warriors predictably picked Joe Smith with the first pick, whose biggest achievement in his career would be his under-the-table contract.

When it came to the Timberwolves’ second pick, they still chose Kevin Garnett, who was just a high school student!

Without precognition, the Timberwolves could have chosen some more mature power forwards over KG at the second slot, like Antonio McDyess or the Yelling Maestro.

But they went for KG.

The TV screen provided Garnett’s draft report:

“Fast, very athletic, rumored to be able to touch the rim.

Big hands and good feel for the game.

An excellent passer, his passing skills are even comparable to Bill Walton.

His high school coach said Kevin is the best-passing big man he’s ever seen; he also has excellent ball-handling skills.

Although he only weighs 215 pounds, his playing style is very aggressive.”

The last line almost made Roger laugh out loud, yes, that’s quite on point.

After the Timberwolves made their selection, the host gave a simple reason, “KG’s agent is Eric Fleisher, who is also Roger’s agent.

He convinced the whole league that KG could be as successful as Roger.

At least Roger’s success convinced the league that drafting high school players isn’t too risky.”

You know, hearing this, Roger felt quite accomplished.

Just because he was a bit too strong, the status of high school draftees was elevated, changing the league’s attitude towards high school players.
