Chapter 107: Circling The Prey

Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Circling The Prey

Lily took the glass from Hunter. She looked down at the amber liquid, uncertain if she should take a sip. If only Zayn were there with her. He would know what to do in such a situation.

Thinking if Zayn reminded Lily of her other companions. She wondered where they were and if they were looking for her. One thing was for certain: Victoria certainly did not miss her.

Victoria’s words echoed in Lily’s mind.

“I’ve spoken to Hunter before...”

The memory struck Lily like lightning. Without thinking, she set the glass down and began signing rapidly.

‘Do you know someone named Victoria, from Obsidian Moon?’

Hunter’s eyebrows knitted together in confusion. “Victoria?” he repeated, trying to place the name.

Lily quickly described the she-wolf, her tan fur, her golden eyes, her slender figure, and long brown hair when in human form.

Recognition dawned on Hunter’s face, followed by a slow, knowing smirk. “Ah, that Victoria.” He leaned back in his chair. “Yes, I know her.”

‘Did you work together?’ Lily pressed, hands moving fluidly.

Hunter laughed, the sound sharp and sudden. “Work together? No, sweetheart. I fucked her during one of your brother’s parties. Once... maybe more.”

Lily flinched at the crudeness of his words. Her stomach twisted at the mention of Xavier’s parties. She buried those memories deep in her mind for a reason.

Hunter noticed her discomfort immediately, his eyes narrowing with interest.

“Your brother certainly enjoyed them. You don’t?” He asked, leaning forward.

Lily’s shoulders tensed. What was the right answer to his question? She wasn’t even sure if Hunter trusted her yet. Looking down at the alcohol in front of her, she bravely took a sip.

The fiery liquid burned its way down her throat. She regretted it instantly.

‘Let’s talk business,’ she signed, trying to get them back on track. ‘I’m here to make a trade, for rations.’

Hunter sat back, clearly surprised. “Rations? That’s all?” He studied her face as if looking for some hidden agenda.

Lily nodded confidently.

“Your brother had more... interesting requests.”

‘I’m not my brother,’ Lily signed firmly.

“Is that so...” He mused as he got up from his seat and walked towards a cabinet, “Perhaps this is what you’re looking for.

He opened a nearby cabinet, revealing shelves stocked with mysterious vials. Lily walked over to take a closer look, not wanting to seem rude. She was stunned to see the labels on them.

“I have everything and anything you could ever want,” he showed her one of the vials as he leaned in closer and whispered, “Things that cannot be found anywhere else. Things that shouldn’t exist.”

Lily gulped. This wasn’t what she signed up for. She stepped back, shaking her head.

‘This isn’t what I’m looking for.’

Hunter nodded along, closing the cabinet behind him. He snapped his fingers. The door on the right opened. Four men walked into the room with silver chains on around their necks, wrists, and ankles.

Hunter smirked as he led Lily towards them, “Male slaves, trained for pleasure.”

He produced a small vial in his hand, filled with blue liquid, “One drop on their tongue and they’ll do anything you ask.”

Lily’s eyes widened in horror. She shook her head vigorously.

Hunter clapped his hands together. The male slaves left the room in silence. Three silver-chained she-wolves entered the room through the same door. Each more seductive than the last.

“Perhaps this is more suited to your taste?” He asked.

Lily shook her head again. Refusing to accept Hunter’s offer.

‘I’m only looking for–’

“Ah, I see,” Hunter chuckled as he moved closer to Lily.

“I should have known from the way you were looking at me,” His voice dropped low as he leaned towards her.

He held her hand in his, placing it on his chest as he continued to speak, “I could be yours for the night, for a reasonable price.”

Lily immediately pulled her hand back and stepped away from him, putting space between them. She tugged at her collar, revealing the mate mark on her neck. She pointed to it firmly.

Hunter crossed his arms, unamused.

“Mated and marked?” He asked.

Lily nodded.

“To your Alpha bodyguard, I presume?”

Lily froze. How did he know?

Hunter chuckled at her reaction, “In my line of work, knowledge is everything. I know all about your Alpha mate, Lily Brightpaw. How he hates you and everything you stand for.”

He got close to Lily, carefully tugging at her collar to reveal the red marks around her neck.

“So that’s how the great Alpha Zayn treats his mate.”

Lily pushed away Hunter’s hand. She lifted her collar higher to cover the red marks, acutely aware of them. But Hunter didn’t back away. He had her right where he wanted her.

“May I ask a question, Luna Lily?” He asked, never letting her leave his gaze.

Lily was hesitant, but obliged.

“Have you ever thought about... leaving it all behind?”

Lily stared up at him, brows furrowed in confusion.

‘Leaving it all behind?’ She signed.

It dawned on her. He was asking if she’d consider leaving Zayn. Hunter saw the realization in her eyes. He circled her slowly, like a predator assessing its prey.

“Have you ever wondered what it would be like not to live in fear? To make your own choices? To be free?”

Lily’s pulse quickened. She never considered that there was another way.

“If you wish, I could make you disappear. Take you somewhere Zayn would never find you. Somewhere, no one will ever hurt you again.”

The offer was so unexpected, so tempting, that for a moment she couldn’t breathe. But Lily pulled herself back to reality.

‘Why would you help me?’ she signed, suspicious of his motives.

“Everything has a price. All I ask is for a favor in return,” He replied with a sly smile.

Hunter reached into his pocket and pulled out a coin, pressing it into her palm. One side showed the head of a wolf in intricate detail. When she turned it over, the other side displayed the silhouette of a wolf howling at the moon.

“You don’t need to decide now,” Hunter said softly. “My offer remains open. If you ever want to escape, simply return this coin to me or give it to one of my men.”

He glanced toward the door. “I suggest you keep that coin now. Your mate will be joining us very soon.”

As if on cue, the door burst open with a splintering crack. Zayn stood in the doorway, eyes blazing with fury. Martha and Ragnar stood behind him, while Victoria lingered in the background, peering over their shoulders.

“Get away from her!” Zayn snarled, lunging toward Hunter.

Lily put herself between them. She pushed against Zayn’s chest, shaking her head frantically.

“Lily?” Confusion replaced rage as he quickly scanned her for injuries. “Are you hurt? Did he touch you?”

Lily shook her head, signing rapidly. ‘I’m fine. He didn’t touch me.’

Zayn pulled Lily into a tight hug.

“Thank the Moon Goddess you’re alright,” He whispered, holding her close.

Lily was stunned by Zayn’s actions. Martha and Ragnar were, too.

Hunter watched on in amusement. He noticed Victoria glaring at the couple. Her hands were curled into fists so tightly her knuckles turned white.
