Chapter 54: Chapter 54 You Are Very Sensitive

Qiao Rui and Song Muyu had dinner at the Huo Family’s place, and Little Xingxing was very clingy to Qiao Rui; she didn’t let Qiao Rui leave until nine in the evening.

Qiao Rui wasn’t busy, so she stayed and put Little Xingxing to sleep before leaving.

Having taken care of the child for most of the day, Song Muyu heaved a sigh, "Oh my, I’m dead tired. Taking care of kids is really exhausting."

Qiao Rui couldn’t help but laugh, "It seems like I’m the one who took care of the child."

Song Muyu wrapped an arm around Qiao Rui’s shoulder, grinning, "I was with you, accompanying you the whole time, protecting you."

Qiao Rui could tell that Song Muyu didn’t really like taking care of children, and that she had stayed so long today only because she was worried about her.

That’s just how Muyu is.

"Ruirui, are you sure you can go to Xinyang tomorrow?" Song Muyu was still a bit worried.

"I can," Qiao Rui smiled. "I’m not playing any crucial role at Pei Liyan’s place, don’t worry. I’ll call you tomorrow morning."

"Okay, I’ll come and pick you up then," Song Muyu was still a bit concerned. "Do you think Pei Liyan will hit you if he finds out your true identity?"

"Do you think he could beat me?" Qiao Rui countered.

Song Muyu was taken aback and then laughed suddenly, "Yeah, a typical person can’t defeat you."

Qiao Rui also smiled; her bright, water-like eyes sparkled as if they were filled with starlight. "Don’t worry, no one can touch me."

"Right," Song Muyu drove her home.

Qiao Rui entered the apartment near the pedestrian street and quickly changed her disguise, turning into a rustic look.

She took her laptop and Maojian tea and returned to the Pei Family’s home, and it was already ten in the evening.

As soon as she entered, Qiao Rui felt the atmosphere in the grand hall was off because Pei Liyan was sitting on the sofa, dressed casually in beige trousers that highlighted his very straight legs.

He lounged on the sofa, a laptop on his legs, his long fingers tapping on the computer, indicating from the sound that he was typing very fast.

Qiao Rui pressed her lips together, wanting to head upstairs without greeting him.

However, the man suddenly looked up at her from the entrance.

In that instant, their eyes met, and Qiao Rui clearly felt the oppressive force from his gaze, compelling her to speak.

"Mr. Pei."

Pei Liyan half-narrowed his eyes, a hint of iciness at their depths, "Where have you been?"

"Out," Qiao Rui remained calm.

Pei Liyan glanced at the items in her hand, his brows furrowed slightly.

Unconsciously, Qiao Rui’s hand tightened around her laptop bag.

Pei Liyan continued to observe Qiao Rui, his deep eyes like dark night stars, lightly darting at her without shifting his gaze. "My question is, where have you been?"

"Buying a computer," Qiao Rui said, "and I also bought some tea."

Pei Liyan’s brows furrowed further; he suddenly placed his laptop on the sofa and stood up.

His already tall figure appeared even more upright with one hand in his pocket, exuding an even more intimidating presence.

He walked towards Qiao Rui.

Qiao Rui was startled.

The man had moved close to her, looking down at her and asked, "Does our house lack the tea you bought?"

"It doesn’t," Qiao Rui said. "I just happened upon it and thought it was good, so I bought some."

"Really?" Pei Liyan huffed lightly, "What tea?"

"Xinyang Maojian," Qiao Rui answered truthfully.

"Do you like drinking Maojian?" Pei Liyan’s voice was deep, as he continued questioning.

Qiao Rui pursed her lips without responding.

Pei Liyan suddenly chuckled lightly, "Does a country girl like you understand the significance of tea?"

Hearing this, Qiao Rui suddenly felt offended.

She hadn’t harbored such strong aversion towards Pei Liyan until this moment, but now she really did.

Judging by appearance, it seemed to be a common fault in everyone.

Qiao Rui lightly pulled her lips, "I don’t understand tea; I just thought it was fun, so I bought some. Mr. Pei is right, a country girl like me doesn’t deserve to drink tea."

Pei Liyan was taken aback, sensing the girl’s tone seemed angry.

He imperceptibly arched an eyebrow, squinting at the girl in front of him. "Tea is made for people to drink; there’s nothing about deserving or not deserving."

Qiao Rui snickered internally, but said aloud, "Oh, I thought only people like Mr. Pei deserved to drink tea."

"Do you want to curse me, is that it?" Pei Liyan countered.

"I wouldn’t dare," Qiao Rui said. "Is Mr. Pei so sensitive?"

"If you dared, you would be cursing me right now, right?" Pei Liyan’s piercing gaze fixed on Qiao Rui’s face, he lightly laughed, "And you are cursing me in your mind right now."

Qiao Rui was startled internally, thinking this man really was cunning.

He seemed to know everything she was thinking.

Qiao Rui just tugged at her lip, "Mr. Pei is overthinking; you’re busy. I’m going upstairs to take a shower."

"First make a cup of tea, try the Maojian you bought," Pei Liyan said.

Qiao Rui was stunned, not expecting Pei Liyan to actually want to try the Maojian she brought back.

She knew that if he tried it, Pei Liyan would definitely discern that it was top-quality Xinyang Maojian.

She really didn’t want to let him taste it.

Thus, she said, "This tea is not very clean. When I bought it, I saw the lady weighing the tea had just picked her nose. You wouldn’t mind, right?"

Pei Liyan’s brows furrowed slightly, a hint of disgust flickering across his eyes.

Qiao Rui’s expression remained calm as she continued, "If Mr. Pei doesn’t mind, I can make the tea for you."

A trace of impatience flickered through Pei Liyan’s eyes as he said sternly, "Forget it, keep it for yourself."

Qiao Rui nodded, "Actually, Mr. Pei, you don’t need to be so particular. This tea, as well as all teas, are plucked by people, and the tea pickers are ordinary people who don’t have very good hygiene habits."

"You can go upstairs now," Pei Liyan said coldly.

Qiao Rui internally laughed a lot.

She nodded and then said, "Um, Mr. Pei, I was called back by the Qiao Family a bit hastily this time, and there are some matters I need to handle back in the countryside, could I take three days off?"

"You want to go back to the countryside?" Pei Liyan asked back.

Qiao Rui nodded. "Yes, I need to make a trip there."

Pei Liyan looked back at her, "Go for three days?"

"Um," Qiao Rui nodded.

Pei Liyan frowned, "What needs three days?"

"People and matters of the countryside, they all make one nostalgic," Qiao Rui said.

"I didn’t realize you were such a nostalgic person," Pei Liyan nodded. "Alright, granted."

"Thank you, Mr. Pei," Qiao Rui didn’t expect it to go so smoothly; her thanks carried sincerity.

Pei Liyan looked at Qiao Rui, the girl’s large glasses covering half her face, but under the gorgeous lighting, her lips were moist today, as crimson as roses.

This color of her lips made Qiao Rui look somewhat more beautiful than before.

He spoke lightly, "If you truly want to thank me, then don’t buy tea from the nose-picking lady."

Hearing Pei Liyan’s words, Qiao Rui first showed a hint of astonishment, then the corners of her lips curled up, "Alright, no more."
