Chapter 486: Chapter 486: You Want Me to Have Nothing

Lin Hailan was also at a loss for words by what Qiao Rui said. She was a bit on edge, so she shouted, "I didn’t expect this either. It’s only right for me to do something for my family, right? You see, I’m the one who suffered a lot without any benefits!"

"Yes," Qiao Rui said. "So that means, Aunt, you aren’t very smart."

"Why don’t you just call me stupid?" Lin Hailan said irritably, "I know that’s what you’re thinking."

"Well, if you think so, I have no objection," Qiao Rui replied frankly.

Lin Hailan found herself awkwardly embarrassed, her face turning sour. "I’m very stupid, you’re smart, can’t you save your uncle?"

"Can’t help, sorry." Qiao Rui said, "You should go back."

"Qiao Rui, you can get the money, Lin Shiyue has long been persuaded by you. I see he’s on your side now, betraying us." Lin Hailan became a bit angry and started speaking recklessly.

"Aunt, be careful with your words," Qiao Rui reminded. "The term ’betraying’ has been taken to the extreme by you. If not, how could your uncle repeatedly break financial rules for the Lin family?"

"You!" Lin Hailan’s face changed again at Qiao Rui’s words. "You don’t need to put me down; I’m not capable—does that make you capable?"

Qiao Rui simply said, "My conscience is clear. What I helped recover was the Qiao family’s property. It didn’t go into my pocket. In this process, you wanted my life repeatedly. I was just defending myself. Just recently, didn’t you suggest to the old master of your family to ask Luo Xiuxin to take my life?"

Lin Hailan was stunned. How did she know?

She stared blankly at Qiao Rui, suddenly realizing something—her self-defense was about delivering a fatal blow to everyone who was against her.

And it was all justified.

She wasn’t a simple-minded, naive girl. She wasn’t a plain, countryside bumpkin.

The girl before her was stunningly beautiful; her presence was so imposing that you could clearly feel her power and dominance.

In front of her, you couldn’t help but feel a need to submit.

Coming to Qiao Rui to achieve her goals turned out to be a miscalculation based on her subjective assumptions, making herself appear even more foolish.

She, Lin Hailan, was truly brainless and lost completely.

Qiao Rui knew everything, yet she cluelessly thought Qiao Rui knew nothing.

Although she now understood, Lin Hailan felt even worse inside.

What would she do in the future?

If her husband went to jail, what would happen?

"Qiao Rui, tell me honestly, what are you going to do with me?" Lin Hailan finally, belatedly, considered her own fate.

Qiao Rui laughed, a laugh full of meaning.

Lin Hailan was frightened by her smile. "What do you mean? Just say it directly, so I can prepare myself."

Qiao Rui said, "Aunt, don’t worry. I won’t do anything to you."

"Don’t lie to me; I don’t believe it," Lin Hailan shook her head. "I don’t believe you’d be so kind."

"Pfft!" Qiao Rui chuckled. "You say you don’t believe me, then why waste time here?"

"What exactly do you want me to do?"

"If you follow the law, no one can do anything to you. The issue is, can you behave yourself?" Qiao Rui said. "Aunt, it’s best not to make your life worthless."

"Do you want me to have nothing left?" Lin Hailan was clever this time; she understood directly.

Qiao Rui couldn’t help but smile. "Aunt, having nothing is better than being in prison, right?"

"Are you really this heartless?" Lin Hailan felt a chill in her heart, "You’re so ruthless."

"To someone who wanted my life, do you think I should magnanimously let them off?" Qiao Rui countered.

Lin Hailan was stunned, then laughed wryly at herself. "I guess I shouldn’t have come today."

"Indeed," Qiao Rui replied.

Lin Hailan felt very disheartened, giving a bitter smile. "What do we have to do for you to let us go?"

"Aunt, you’re not that old, why so naggy?" Qiao Rui said sternly. "Gai Yin, see her out."

"Yes!" At this moment, Gai Yin walked in and reported to Qiao Rui, "President, a Mr. Pei Jibai is here to see you, should I invite him up?"

"Pei Jibai?" Qiao Rui was a bit surprised, wondering if it was about his sister. She nodded and said, "Invite him up."

"Yes." Gai Yin immediately arranged for someone to bring him up, then said to Lin Hailan, "Mrs. Qiao, please."

"Please call me Mrs. Qiao," Lin Hailan corrected.

Gai Yin shrugged, unwilling to argue further, "Okay, Mrs. Qiao."

Lin Hailan glared fiercely at Qiao Rui, "Aren’t you afraid of shortening your lifespan by thoroughly eliminating your enemies?"

"My conscience is clear," Qiao Rui tossed out four words.

"Then I’ll see how good an end you meet," Lin Hailan said, twisting her face in anger as she left.

Gai Yin escorted her to the elevator, just as Pei Jibai arrived.

He stepped out of the elevator while Lin Hailan prepared to enter.

Seeing Pei Jibai, Lin Hailan couldn’t help but glance more closely.

Pei Jibai recognized her too and gave a slight smile, "Aunt Qiao!"

Lin Hailan snorted, "Second Young Master Pei, it’s said you had a clandestine meeting with Qiao Rui at the ancestral hall. Don’t you think you gave your elder brother a cuckold?"

Pei Jibai, just arriving, was thus baselessly accused by Lin Hailan of having an affair with his sister-in-law.

This was sheer slander!

His handsome face remained calm, "Aunt Qiao, I respect you as an elder and don’t wish to speak harshly, but you must apologize today."

"Apologize? Ha!" Lin Hailan sneered, "Are you sure you harbor no feelings for Qiao Rui? You’ve been courting her all along, haven’t you?"

Pei Jibai looked down at her, "Aunt Qiao, to label normal human interactions with such filthy terms shows your mind indeed isn’t clean. Perhaps you fancy special relationships with your brother-in-law, why assume everyone is like you?"

"Nonsense," Lin Hailan immediately denied.

Pei Jibai laughed coldly. "You understand what ’nonsense’ is, huh? You spout nonsense yourself and expect others not to comment?"

"Exactly," Gai Yin also chimed in to remind Lin Hailan, "Mrs. Qiao, your words are enough to constitute slander. Be careful what you say."

Lin Hailan snorted and got into the elevator, "Can’t be bothered with you people."

She left.

Pei Jibai slightly frowned, then put on a smile facing Gai Yin, "Hello, may I ask how to address you?"

"You can just call me Gai Yin," Gai Yin smiled. "I’m President Qiao’s assistant."

"Assistant Gai, nice to meet you, could you please take me to see my sister-in-law?"

"Certainly, Mr. Pei, please." Gai Yin gestured for him to follow.

Pei Jibai immediately followed.

Once they reached the president’s office, as soon as Pei Jibai entered, Qiao Rui stood up, "Jibai, you came to see me for something?"
