Chapter 420: Chapter 420: Everyone Stayed Away from Her
Pei Liyan’s face remained indifferent.
Qiao Xiang continued, "Last night, Liang Jinqian contacted me, wanting me to team up with him against the president and make me a business spy."
"Oh, really?" Pei Liyan raised his head to glance at her without any change in his expression. "Liang Jinqian has approached many people recently, all wanting to team up against me."
Qiao Xiang was taken aback and quickly said, "Be careful, president. I’ve already rejected him. This is the business card he gave me."
Qiao Xiang stepped forward and placed Liang Jinqian’s business card on the desk.
"Take it with you," Pei Liyan said. "I have his contact information."
Qiao Xiang paused and said, "Oh, okay, I don’t need it anyway. I’ll throw it in the trash outside."
Pei Liyan looked at her, his eyes dark and inscrutable. "Qiao Xiang, only a smart person does what they should do."
"I understand." Qiao Xiang nodded immediately. "I won’t collaborate with him."
"Leave, please," Pei Liyan said coldly.
"Yes!" Qiao Xiang felt a pang of tension as the man’s cold demeanor remained, instantly responding and turning to leave, disposing of the business card in the trash can at the door.
Pei Liyan squinted slightly. Was that all she came for? It didn’t quite match what Qiao Rui had said.
He didn’t think much of it and went back to reviewing the documents.
Soon, Qiao Xiang returned and knocked on the door again.
"Come in!" Pei Liyan’s response was succinct.
"President, I have one more thing." Qiao Xiang spoke up again.
"Say it," Pei Liyan’s attitude was indifferent, not even lifting his head.
"Can you help me plead for a favor so that Qiao Rui might show compassion towards my parents?" Qiao Xiang said once more.
Pei Liyan finally looked up at Qiao Xiang. So this was what she wanted to discuss.
Qiao Rui indeed had foresight.
"Aren’t your parents doing fine?" Pei Liyan asked indifferently.
"My dad is still in detention," Qiao Xiang whispered.
"Oh? Why was your dad detained?" Pei Liyan asked sternly.
Seeing the man’s stern demeanor, Qiao Xiang’s heart trembled, her body tense. She spoke softly, "Qiao Rui called the police, saying my dad released alligators into the water, so he was detained."
Pei Liyan nodded. "In that case, do you think I can be above the law?"
"Last time in Liancheng, you helped me, didn’t you?" Qiao Xiang shouted softly in agitation.
Pei Liyan sneered. "Last time, Liancheng wasn’t fully processed yet. If it had been, do you think anyone could’ve gotten you out?"
Qiao Xiang was stunned.
Pei Liyan continued, "That issue is still unresolved. If you find yourself too free, you can resolve it by confirming the kidnapping charge."
Qiao Xiang shuddered, shaking her head. "I’m sorry, I know I’m asking too much. I can’t stand by and do nothing for my parents."
"Your father brought this upon himself," Pei Liyan said. "If you want to follow in his footsteps, it’s your choice."
"I don’t mean that!"
"Leave," Pei Liyan ordered sternly.
Terrified, Qiao Xiang flinched and then hurried out.
Pei Liyan furrowed his brow and called Si Ran into the president’s office.
Not long after, Si Ran arrived.
"President, you called for me?"
"Keep an eye on Qiao Xiang’s work. If she’s not up to standard, let her go."
"Yes!" Si Ran observed that Pei Liyan seemed quite angry.
Uncertain of what Qiao Xiang said to incite such anger from the president.
Si Ran hesitated for a moment before speaking, "President, if she has been coerced by Liang Jinqian, won’t letting her resign push her towards him?"
"Si Ran, if she wants to work with Liang Jinqian, it’s only a matter of time," Pei Liyan said. "We can’t stop her, but right now, her inability to separate personal from professional matters makes it difficult for her to do her job!"
Si Ran nodded. "I understand, President. I’ll keep an eye on her."
"By the way, are you okay from last night?" Pei Liyan asked with concern.
"No problem." Si Ran maintained a perfectly polite smile.
"That’s good!" Pei Liyan nodded. "Go ahead with your work!"
After Si Ran left the president’s office, she saw Qiao Xiang at her desk, her eyes red.
Perhaps sensing Si Ran’s gaze, Qiao Xiang immediately looked down to prepare for work.
Si Ran merely gave her a fleeting glance before returning to her work.
Not long after, He Zheng arrived.
The moment he appeared, he looked at Si Ran, gave a faint smile, and said, "Secretary Si, good morning!"
"President He, good morning." Si Ran returned his smile nonchalantly, showing no special expression.
He Zheng noted her aloof reaction, as if she were a stranger, completely unlike last night when she invited him to her home.
He furrowed his brow slightly, smiling as he asked, "Is your uncle still at your place?"
Si Ran’s eyes tightened as she looked at He Zheng, nodding seriously. "Yes, he’s still there. Thank you for your concern, President He."
He Zheng partially closed his eyes, smiling as he said, "Caring for you is my duty."
Si Ran discreetly gritted her teeth, maintaining a perfectly appropriate smile. "You’re too kind, President He. President Pei is in the president’s office. If you’re looking for him, I won’t delay you any longer."
"Secretary Si," He Zheng wasn’t in a hurry, saying, "Haven’t you heard that the friend of President Pei, even a secretary, should be well received?"
"President He, haven’t I received you well?" Si Ran asked with a smile.
He Zheng was taken aback by her question and said, "How you are now doesn’t seem like you’re receiving me well at all. You don’t seem to want to bother with me."
"You’ve misunderstood, President He." Si Ran didn’t get upset. "I thought you were looking for President Pei and didn’t want to waste your time."
"I am indeed looking for him," He Zheng said. "But chatting with you is also pleasant."
Si Ran took a deep breath and smiled again. "President He, if you think so, it’s my pleasure."
"No way!" He Zheng laughed. "It’s my pleasure to talk to a beautiful woman, I’m honored."
At this moment, hearing their conversation, Qiao Xiang was also curious and walked over, calling out, "Ah Zheng, you’re here!"
He Zheng was startled, turning to see Qiao Xiang smiling at him, and he smiled back, saying, "Qiao Xiang, good morning!"
"Are you here for President Pei?" Qiao Xiang asked with a smile.
"President He enjoys chatting with pretty women. Secretary Qiao, you should entertain him. I’m off to work," Si Ran said indifferently, not giving He Zheng a chance to speak before turning away.
He Zheng’s eyes narrowed. That girl slipped away.
Qiao Xiang said at this moment, "You’re here to see President Pei, right?"
"Yes." He Zheng nodded. "Qiao Xiang, you should get to work. I’m going to find Liyan."
"You seem quite special to Secretary Si!" Qiao Xiang remarked.
He Zheng was taken aback and asked, "Am I? Why don’t I feel that way?"
"Of course, we can all see it." Qiao Xiang smiled slightly. "You go ahead. I know I’m not beautiful enough to catch your eye."
"Not at all!" He Zheng quickly said, "You’re lovely, but I need to go now."
He turned and headed to the president’s office.
Qiao Xiang slightly furrowed her brow. He Zheng was attentive to Si Ran but increasingly indifferent to her.
Including Fu Yichen, who hadn’t called once since he was taken away by his father’s people.
They were all distant from her.
