Chapter 415: Chapter 415 Small Mindset

After hanging up Elder Lin’s call, Qiao Rui looked at Pei Liyan, who had been staring at her, and blinked her eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do you think I’m charming?"

Pei Liyan gave a doting smile and said, "Very charming, even more so if you hadn’t asked that question."

Qiao Rui burst into laughter. "Then I’d better not be more charming, lest you fall for me and can’t extricate yourself, losing your identity—that would be my fault."

Pei Liyan couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time; this girl was so sharp-tongued, ordinary people couldn’t match her.

"Elder Lin is panicking," Pei Liyan thought about the phone call earlier and became serious. "If we’re going to do this, let’s make it big."

"Yes, since we’ve already offended them, there’s no need to hold back now. That would make us seem afraid," Qiao Rui replied with a smile. "I used to believe in forgiving when possible, but some people just risk everything for money."

"Elder Lin isn’t very educated," Pei Liyan explained. "He didn’t study much in his early years, and after becoming a businessman, he didn’t prioritize further learning, so his level has always been limited."

"That has nothing to do with education," Qiao Rui shrugged. "The aunts in our village have more vision than that; Elder Lin simply lacks perspective."

Pei Liyan accepted this statement.

Indeed, he lacked perspective, but not everyone has that.

"The perspective is indeed limited. I thought Lin Tiancheng’s generation might improve a little, but he’s not much better than his father," Pei Liyan shared what he knew with Qiao Rui. "However, Lin Shiyue is slightly better compared to them."

Qiao Rui nodded. "Lin Shiyue does have more vision than them, and he’s the best of the Lin family’s three siblings."

"Do you know the second child of the Lin family?" Pei Liyan was a bit surprised.

"Just a bit," Qiao Rui replied. "But among their family’s three generations, the only presentable one’s character is probably Lin Shiyue’s daughter."

"Lin Shiyue’s daughter?" Pei Liyan tried to recall the name but couldn’t.

Qiao Rui suddenly gave a mysterious smile. "Yeah, she’s quite pretty. Would you like to meet her?"

Pei Liyan frowned, feeling a bit offended. "What kind of person do you think I am in your heart, and what do you mean by this?"

"You’re just a man to me," Qiao Rui couldn’t help but tease, "Men are generally lustful."

Pei Liyan felt he couldn’t prove his innocence; after all, in Qiao Rui’s view, he had his faults.

He didn’t argue but gave a helpless smile. "Well, thank you for your good intentions. I don’t want to meet any Lin family lady; having you is enough."

"Meeting her wouldn’t hurt," Qiao Rui said. "If your heart is clear, meeting lots of women doesn’t matter. If you’re hiding something, setting targets won’t help."

Pei Liyan felt if they continued this topic, he’d die of embarrassment.

He changed the subject, asking, "Your village seems quite mysterious nowadays. I hope I have the chance to visit with you one day."

"Wait till you become a qualified son-in-law of our village. If you go now, you’ll be played to death by the aunts," Qiao Rui said.

Pei Liyan was stunned and raised his eyebrows in question. "Am I not qualified now?"

Qiao Rui glanced at him, examining him up and down. "For now, you seem okay, but time reveals a person’s true nature."

"Indeed, time reveals all!" Pei Liyan said earnestly. "I look forward to becoming a qualified son-in-law of your village. What should I do?"

Qiao Rui watched his helpless yet serious demeanor and laughed. "You might not have heard this, but doing nothing often leads to fewer mistakes. The more you do, the more mistakes you make."

Pei Liyan blinked his eyes. "I can’t agree with that. Some things must be done, even if they’re wrong. Doing the impossible sometimes is life’s unavoidable choice."

"Oh please!" Qiao Rui scoffed. "Like now, you should be sleeping, yet you’re talking. Isn’t that a bit helpless?"

Pei Liyan suddenly found himself speechless.

Qiao Rui laughed, "Time for bed, Mr. CEO, I’m going to brush my teeth and wash up."

Pei Liyan helped her tidy up the fruit plates.

When he looked up, Qiao Rui was already getting off the bed and heading to the guest room.

He frowned. "You said it’s bedtime, where are you going?"

"I’ll be back in 20 minutes; I’m going to the guest room to wash up," Qiao Rui said. "Don’t disturb me, I need to do a facial mask."

Pei Liyan replied, "Are you afraid of being disturbed doing a facial mask?"

"Yes, I’m afraid of getting wrinkles if I talk too much."

"Aren’t you not afraid to look ugly?"

"Everyone loves beauty, and men are lustful, so why can’t I love beauty too?"

Pei Liyan gave in. "You always have so many reasons."

"Mr. Pei, you always have so many questions," Qiao Rui chuckled, left the master bedroom, and went to the guest room.

Afterward, Pei Liyan furrowed his brows slightly, went downstairs to get her a cup of hot water, returned it to the bedside, and washed up himself.

After washing up and sitting by the bed, he checked the time. Only ten minutes had passed.

Something flashed in his mind, and he stood up, walking towards the guest room door.

He reached out to twist the doorknob of Qiao Rui’s room, finding it locked.

She really didn’t want to be disturbed.

This girl, who knows how many secrets she’s hiding.

He stood at the door with his hands on his hips, waiting for a while, but no one came out.

There was no noise inside, he hesitated and decided to go back to the bedroom.

At that moment, Qiao Rui already noticed the door handle being turned, but no one knocked.

She breathed a sigh of relief, went into the bathroom, washed her face, freshened up her look, everything was normal, and then changed into a nightgown, letting her hair loose, ready to go back to the master bedroom.

As soon as she entered the door, she saw Pei Liyan half-lying on the bed, leaning back lazily against the headboard.

Qiao Rui closed the door. "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

Pei Liyan looked at her; she was only wearing a nightgown, revealing her fair and straight legs, her arms smooth and white, with her skin glowing pink. As her hair fell down, it highlighted her delicate hibiscus-like face.

Pei Liyan took a deep breath, his voice hoarse. "Of course, I’m waiting for you."

"Then hurry up and sleep," Qiao Rui lifted a corner of the quilt, climbed onto the bed, and turned off the light.

The room instantly plunged into darkness.

Pei Liyan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and the next second, turned on the bedside lamp.

The light spilled down on the girl’s long hair. As she looked up, Pei Liyan leaned over.

"Sleeping like this isn’t right!" he said.

Qiao Rui glanced at him. "Then what does Mr. Pei want?"

"Of course, I want to dance a waltz with Mrs. Pei!" he added.

Qiao Rui burst out laughing. "Just one dance?"

Pei Liyan’s gaze deepened. "This dance will last a little longer."

Qiao Rui tilted her head slightly, looking into the man’s deep eyes. "As long as Mr. Pei is happy."
