Chapter 387: Chapter 387: A Familiar Feeling

Huo Sinan felt a bit awkward, taking another glance at Qiao Rui. He felt that her aura was somehow familiar yet also a bit strange, like he had seen her somewhere before, a sense of déjà vu.

He sighed and said, "Although I don’t know your relationship with Gai Yin, I can tell you care about her a lot. But this is a matter between me and Gai Yin, and I can’t disclose the details to you."

Qiao Rui looked at Huo Sinan, and a trace of sadness quickly flashed across his face.

The events of that year were like a thorn, embedded in his heart.

Seeing Gai Yin like this now, with her lost memories, completely forgetting him, he felt indescribable emotions—disappointment and pain, conflicted yet struggling.

In any case, he didn’t want to see a woman he once cared for in such a state.

Qiao Rui was startled for a moment and said, "You have the right to protect your privacy, but I won’t stand by if it concerns Gai Yin. If I find out you’ve bullied my Sister Yin, I won’t let it go."

Huo Sinan was taken aback, looking at Qiao Rui once more, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He felt that Qiao Rui’s demeanor was very familiar.

She looked very beautiful, quite different from the first time he met her—not that her looks were attracting, but her aura.

"Rest assured," Huo Sinan said in a deep voice, "Since I encountered her and know the hardships she endured, I will compensate her."

"Compensate?" Qiao Rui asked, clearly displeased, in a deep tone: "How do you plan to compensate?"

"I haven’t figured it out yet," Huo Sinan replied in a deep voice, "She forgot me, which might be a good thing for her."

Qiao Rui narrowed her eyes and said in a cold tone, "It seems like you must have done a lot to hurt her."

Huo Sinan hesitated to speak.

Qiao Rui snorted coldly, "Mr. Huo, you’d better hope you weren’t too excessive. If I find out you’re a jerk and you hurt her, forget about being a man in this lifetime."

Huo Sinan was stunned.

Facing Qiao Rui’s sharp gaze, her eyes cold like a sword encased in ice, which made others feel uneasy.

Huo Sinan felt a pang in his heart but spoke calmly, "It seems you and Gai Yin have a close relationship; she means a lot to you."

"Yes," Qiao Rui admitted directly, "she indeed means a lot to me."

"I heard you’ve taken over the Qiao Family," Huo Sinan said, "I didn’t expect Pei Liyan to actually let you show yourself."

Upon hearing this, Qiao Rui frowned slightly. "It sounds to me like Mr. Huo has strong opinions about women stepping into the limelight?"

"No, you’ve misunderstood!" Huo Sinan shook his head. "I just think Pei Liyan is that type; he’s quite the chauvinist."

"So far, Pei Liyan hasn’t been; it’s you who seem to have strong masculine pride," Qiao Rui retorted unhappily.

"You defend Pei Liyan so much; aren’t you afraid of being deceived?" Huo Sinan didn’t expect Qiao Rui to accept Pei Liyan so quickly.

"Mr. Huo is neither me nor Pei Liyan, and you have no right to interfere in our matters."

Huo Sinan paused, shook his head, and smiled bitterly, "You’re right, indeed there’s no right to interfere."

Qiao Rui found that men tended to have double standards.

Huo Sinan stood in the hallway on the second floor, glancing inside through the window. Little Xingxing nestled in Gai Yin’s arms, and Gai Yin was gentle with him, gentle as if she were Little Xingxing’s mother.

But Huo Sinan knew she wasn’t.

Little Xingxing couldn’t possibly be Gai Yin’s child; their child was long gone.

He personally took Gai Yin to the hospital for an abortion, and she disappeared completely, saying she hated him for a lifetime when she left.

He still remembered her pale face back then, how she expressed her hatred for him word by word.

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, he would wake up in a cold sweat, startled.

He also searched for Gai Yin for over half a year without success.

Later, he received a child, and the baby had DNA testing proving it was his child.

Of course, he also had a DNA retest, which indeed confirmed Little Xingxing was his child.

However, at that time, Gai Yin wasn’t his only woman, and he didn’t even know whose child it actually was.

Eventually, he had to accept the fact that he had a child.

From then on, he restrained himself, never again having complex relationships with women.

Later on, he met Ruirui, and he had some feelings.

But Ruirui rejected him.

He suddenly felt relieved that Ruirui rejected him; otherwise, he would be a total jerk now.

"You’re right, I might have a bit of chauvinism too," Huo Sinan acknowledged, looking at Qiao Rui, "Mrs. Pei, there’s nothing I can explain to you about Gai Yin and me, but I might often be around Gai Yin in the future."

"She gets a headache when she sees you," Qiao Rui reminded, "I can only say that if she doesn’t want to be bothered by you, then please know your limits."

Huo Sinan nodded, "Rest assured, the affection between Gai Yin and me remains, and I don’t want to upset her under any circumstances."

"You’d better manage that," Qiao Rui said.

"Understood, Mrs. Pei. Please go inside and help me keep an eye on my son; I’ll settle the bill and be back shortly."

Qiao Rui nodded and entered the second-floor restaurant.

Gai Yin and Little Xingxing were conversing, seemingly discussing something.

Gai Yin showed no impatience whatsoever, looking particularly gentle and patient; she was exceptionally good to Little Xingxing.

Qiao Rui sat down, and Gai Yin looked up at her, smiling sheepishly, "President Qiao, this child is really cute, instantly making one fond of him, though his dad is a bit annoying."

"My dad’s not annoying," Little Xingxing immediately defended his dad upon hearing his mom disparage him. "Dad is great."

Gai Yin was momentarily speechless but smiled, "Alright, your dad is great."

Only then did Little Xingxing smile, "Mom’s great too!"

"Little guy, am I not your mom too?" Qiao Rui asked with a smile.

Little Xingxing looked at Qiao Rui, then at Gai Yin, and suddenly hugged Gai Yin tightly. "I want this mom."

Qiao Rui sighed, glancing at Gai Yin, "Sister Yin, this child really resembles you. Could he be yours?"

Gai Yin was taken aback, then shook her head, "I wish this child were mine, but you know my character; it’s impossible for me to have a child out of wedlock."

Qiao Rui was also taken aback. It seemed she still needed to look into past medical records to see if there were any gynecological examinations done on Gai Yin.

She smiled thoughtfully, "What if? There’s always an exception; maybe you unknowingly had a child?"

"I really like this child," Gai Yin said with a smile, "but I’m very clear, even if I’ve lost a part of my memory, I am immensely sure I never had a child."
