Chapter 315: Chapter 315: Indeed, I Haven’t Misjudged
Pei Liyan heard this, instantly furrowed his brows, and asked uncertainly: "Fang Mo got caught too?"
"Yes." Si Ran nodded, feeling quite tense inside, and reported while looking at Pei Liyan: "Our people reported back saying Fang Mo and Lu Heming haven’t returned. They’re both detained at Liu Garden."
"Ha!" Pei Liyan sneered lightly. "Impressive, indeed."
"Should I bring people over, President?" Si Ran asked for instructions.
"You can’t handle it," Pei Liyan said deeply. "Where’s He Zheng?"
Si Ran froze for a moment, pressed his lips together, and said, "President He didn’t return to Ludao last night, seems like he went out for something."
When He Zheng is needed, he’s never around.
"You don’t need to worry about it. I’ll go personally in a bit."
"Understood." Si Ran dared not ask further.
Meanwhile, Qiao Rui had already been eavesdropping at the door. She found it amusing—looks like Jinfeng and Qi Yun did a great job capturing Lu Heming and Fang Mo’s people.
Quickly, she slipped back to bed and pretended to sleep.
Pei Liyan returned, first glanced at Qiao Rui lying in bed, then walked over and said nothing, but suddenly pressed her under him.
Qiao Rui was startled internally. Could it be that his men were bullied, so now he wants to bully her?
She decided to keep pretending to sleep, not waking up no matter what.
But the man pulled back her blanket, leaned his face close to hers, and chuckled lightly: "Little liar, pretending to sleep, aren’t you?"
Qiao Rui snorted softly but didn’t open her eyes. "Don’t crush me. I need to sleep."
"Listening at the door for so long, thought I’d miss that?" Pei Liyan said with a smile.
Qiao Rui’s heart tightened—how did he know?
She refused to fall for his tricks.
Pei Liyan reached into the blanket and grabbed her foot. "Your feet are ice-cold. That’s what you get for walking barefoot on the floor, isn’t it?"
Qiao Rui suddenly opened her eyes. Damn, he’s far too sneaky.
"I was born this way." Qiao Rui looked at him with clear black-and-white eyes and curved lips. "Cold feet—is that a problem?"
Pei Liyan: "..."
"Your subordinates have all been wiped out, yet you’re still here crushing me. If this gets out, you’ll be known as a negligent ruler, Mr. Pei."
Pei Liyan smirked and said: "The fleeting night leads to late mornings, and hence this king is reluctant to attend court."
"Ha!" Qiao Rui snorted lightly. "You fancy yourself Tang Minghuang? Well, I’m certainly not Yang Guifei. I’m not that plump."
Pei Liyan pinched her chin, looked down at her, and said: "You’re smarter than Yang Guifei."
Qiao Rui smiled faintly. "Mr. Pei, you should go handle your business. If something happens to your subordinates, I can’t take responsibility for the consequences."
"You can," Pei Liyan said as he pinched her chin tighter, his gaze locking onto her brows and eyes deeply. "I reckon if you can’t handle it, then no one in this world can."
"Oh, stop—it’s like you’re saying I’m omnipotent." Qiao Rui snorted. "As I recall, not long ago, I was still just a rustic girl in your eyes."
Pei Liyan chuckled, gazing at her intensely, and his grip grew slightly firmer. "Honestly, I’ve always thought I had good judgment and didn’t misread."
"Misread what?" Qiao Rui feigned ignorance.
"You’re different from the others." Pei Liyan smiled faintly. "From the very beginning, it was obvious you were unique."
Qiao Rui turned her face away, only to have her chin pinched back by the man.
She sighed helplessly but still maintained a smile. "Mr. Pei, your judgment’s impressive—you recognized me."
"Hmm, a raw gemstone," Pei Liyan said.
Qiao Rui kept her smile. "Well then, thank you. It’s all thanks to your discerning eyes that I was discovered."
"You, ah, are excessively modest." Pei Liyan smiled lightly. "Too much of it feels like a bit of an act."
Qiao Rui was rendered speechless. "Fine, I act—I happen to love acting."
"Don’t be upset. I didn’t say anything wrong. You really do enjoy acting, little liar," Pei Liyan teased.
"Mr. Pei, if you keep dragging this out, your subordinates will face unknown consequences." She reminded him to hurry up and leave.
He stared at her for a while, his gaze lingering on her face, scrutinizing every inch before a chilling smile appeared. "Girl, you care about my subordinates that much? I don’t even care—I think I’m more suited to explore fine jade right now."
"Explore?" Qiao Rui was provoked to the point she wanted to curse.
"Indeed, explore," Pei Liyan grinned. "Polish fine jade and shape it into whatever I desire."
As he finished speaking, he lowered his head and bit the tip of her nose.
"Ah!" Qiao Rui exclaimed. "Don’t bite me!"
Pei Liyan snorted lightly. "Not just bite—maybe I’ll eat your nose entirely."
His voice was soft and chilling, enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
Qiao Rui fake-laughed twice, pretending to be terrified. "Mr. Pei, I’m so scared!"
"Let me test if this nose is poisonous," he said, then took her nose into his mouth.
Qiao Rui’s heart raced uncontrollably—what was this man plotting now?
But as he continued biting, she instantly sensed something was off.
Is he going at it again?
Trapped by him, Qiao Rui screamed: "Stop tormenting me already!"
"Little liar," he let go of her nose, glanced at it, noticed the teeth marks he’d left, and his eyes gleamed. "Alright, I’ll let you go. I’m heading out for a bit—Si Ran will keep you company."
Afterward, he was about to get off the bed and leave.
"I’ll sleep on my own—no need for Si Ran to accompany me," Qiao Rui said.
"Alright, sleep well then." He nodded.
Changing into his clothes, Pei Liyan left the room.
Walking down the corridor, he instructed Si Ran: "Activate the signal-blocking perimeter as I previously ordered. Keep an eye on my suite’s windows and doors. Qiao Rui is not permitted to leave—just find a way to stall her. Understand?"
"Understood!" Si Ran felt slightly rattled, sensing the President was targeting his wife.
She didn’t understand the President’s intentions and could only obey orders.
Only then did Pei Liyan leave.
As soon as he was gone, Qiao Rui grabbed her phone and turned it on.
But when she tried to make a call, she suddenly realized—no signal.
She froze.
Walking to the door, she intended to open it but suddenly stopped.
She moved to the window, hiding behind the curtains, and glanced down. She noticed two people positioned below, constantly watching her side of the window.
Ha.
So Pei Liyan really was suspicious of her, huh?
She looked down.
Standing by the window, Qiao Rui grew increasingly angry the more she thought about it. The angrier she got, the more agitated she became.
He was doing this on purpose, just to see if she’d slip up.
She would not.
Qiao Rui changed her clothes, walked to the door, and opened it.
The man stationed by the door saw her and immediately spoke respectfully: "Madam, where are you headed?"
"Nowhere—I’m hungry. Please call room service; I need food."
"Understood!" The bodyguard at the door relaxed upon hearing she wouldn’t be going out.
As long as she didn’t leave, things would be manageable.
"I’ll make the call right away."
Qiao Rui returned to the room.
A short time later, Si Ran entered. "Madam, are you requesting breakfast?"
"Yes, I’m hungry." Qiao Rui sat on the sofa, glanced at Si Ran, and said, "Very hungry."
"Didn’t you eat in the middle of the night?" Si Ran asked suspiciously. She’d eaten quite a lot during the night.
"Already digested it," Qiao Rui replied bluntly. "You’ll understand someday."
Si Ran was speechless and quickly said, "It’s already ordered—it’ll arrive soon."
Sure enough, ten minutes later, room service arrived.
Si Ran was also present.
Qiao Rui looked at the two people delivering the food—one man and one woman.
She caught sight of the female room service attendant and curved her lips into a smile. "I was starving—it’s finally here."
