Chapter 302: Chapter 302: The Layout
"What do you know?" Fang Mo asked puzzled.
Pei Liyan remained fixated on the screen, his eyes flashing sharp and cold.
He really felt so wronged.
The silhouette—if you only looked at the silhouette—it absolutely resembled someone.
Those hands, identical.
And certain expressions in bed, even the uncontrollable screams she uttered at moments, all felt simultaneously familiar and strange.
Thus, a bold assumption began forming in his mind: Qiao Rui... Ruirui... they were probably the same person.
He had never been as certain as he was now.
"I have some ideas, but I need conclusive evidence," Pei Liyan said, knowing the thought might seem absurd to outsiders.
Therefore, he couldn’t talk about it yet—he needed clarity first.
Fang Mo and Lu Heming exchanged glances without saying a word.
After a brief deliberation, Pei Liyan gave his orders, "Heming, task someone with tracking Ruirui’s movements at Liu Garden. I need her whereabouts. Fang Mo, assign people to follow Jiang Jinfeng, and another team to closely monitor Song Muyu."
"Understood!" Lu Heming and Fang Mo nodded.
Pei Liyan added, "Do not talk about this to anyone. I need to determine something. Until I come to a definite conclusion, only the three of us will know."
"President, what is it you need to confirm exactly?" Fang Mo queried in confusion.
Pei Liyan glanced at him, then at Lu Heming, and said, "Once you locate Ruirui’s whereabouts, the answer will naturally reveal itself."
Fang Mo and Lu Heming froze in surprise.
Pei Liyan urged again, "Get moving quickly."
"Yes!" Lu Heming immediately led his team to investigate.
Fang Mo also left swiftly.
Pei Liyan narrowed his eyes slightly, an eager gleam flickering within.
The same hands, the same figure, even the same tone—it was impossible to overlook the striking similarities, even with altered voices.
He had no definitive evidence tying them together for now, but from this point onward, he was determined to gather it meticulously.
Before unveiling anything, he’d remain silent.
He was going to capture her, leave her no room to escape.
Returning to the room,
Qiao Rui had already showered, changed into pajamas, and was sitting on the sofa.
When Pei Liyan entered, she immediately stood up from the sofa, lifting her gaze to glance at him.
Pei Liyan’s gaze fell on her slender, fair, well-proportioned legs as he spoke impassively, "I thought you’d scaled rooftops and disappeared again!"
"No, I’m not a cat!" Qiao Rui tugged at the corner of her lips, letting out an awkward laugh. "Or a bird."
Pei Liyan shot her a glance but said nothing further, pulling out his phone to call Si Ran. "Arrange for room service, send up some late-night snacks."
Qiao Rui froze, suddenly remembering she had barely eaten anything at dinner before heading out earlier. Was he ordering her food?
She leaned forward slightly, sneaking a peek at Pei Liyan.
It just happened that his gaze swept toward her.
Qiao Rui’s heart sank in guilt, quickly lowering her head.
Pei Liyan ignored her and strode into the room, heading to shower and change.
Qiao Rui opened her mouth but said nothing.
Watching his cold and distant figure retreat, Qiao Rui suddenly realized—this was the real Pei Liyan.
This was the man the outside world whispered about—ruthless, heartless, unwavering in his resolve.
But there was something different about him.
Before long, Si Ran and the room service arrived.
The late-night snacks were sumptuous, mostly consisting of dishes she loved.
Si Ran was truly thoughtful; after observing her dining preferences these days, he hadn’t missed the detail when Pei Liyan instructed him to bring food.
He truly was an exemplary assistant.
Si Ran glanced at Qiao Rui, looking somewhat worried but reluctant to voice it.
When Qiao Rui abruptly left during dinner, Si Ran had been concerned as well.
Once inside, Si Ran looked at Qiao Rui and finally spoke, "Madam, you’re back—that’s good."
"Of course I’d return, it’s nothing serious," Qiao Rui chuckled awkwardly.
Just then, the door to the inner room suddenly creaked, and Si Ran quickly said, "I’ll head out now."
Qiao Rui nodded.
As soon as Si Ran stepped out, Pei Liyan emerged from the room.
He hadn’t changed, wearing only an oversized robe tied at the waist.
Water dripped from his hair—he hadn’t even grabbed a towel.
Seeing this, Qiao Rui hurriedly fetched a towel to help him dry his hair.
"No need," Pei Liyan said deep and firm, not sparing her a glance.
Qiao Rui was already uneasy and on edge. His cold attitude startled her.
The chill was so penetrating it made her heart sink.
But she didn’t let go, continuing to dry his hair.
"I know you’re still angry," Qiao Rui murmured softly. "But aren’t circumstances mutual?"
She didn’t dwell on his demeanor; to her, his attitude wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
Pei Liyan turned his sharp gaze to her, his icy eyes boring into her calm face.
Qiao Rui looked up to meet his gaze.
His cold, detached voice finally broke the silence, tinged with faint emotion. "I asked you to reflect—is this your reflection’s result?"
Qiao Rui lifted her eyes to study his silhouette, her hands continuing to dry his hair, droplets clinging to her fingers as she gazed at his steadfast facial lines.
She couldn’t help but admire how commanding his tightly pursed lips appeared, the entire outline veiled with an innate sternness that radiated unspoken authority.
His features were striking—a high bridge nose, petite nostrils, sharp eyebrows that seemed to soar, his entire presence exuding cold arrogance.
As she examined him, those deep-set, penetrating eyes stared back at her, brimming with steely intensity and wisdom.
"Have you looked enough?" Pei Liyan queried when she hadn’t uttered a single word, simply staring at him.
Qiao Rui snapped out of it, her cheeks lightly flushed. "My reflection’s result is... I’ll trust you more moving forward."
"Heh!" Pei Liyan’s sudden chuckle escaped, a sharp glint streaking across his dark eyes. Slowly and deliberately, he fixed his gaze on her, as though he had predicted exactly what she’d say. "Then make a gesture and prove it."
Qiao Rui froze but obediently finished drying his hair.
"Is that all?" the man questioned.
Qiao Rui faltered, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes. "Then what do you expect me to do?"
"Start by telling me—where did you go while you were away?" Pei Liyan’s deep voice carried no trace of joy or anger, yet it bore an invisible pressure that weighed heavily on Qiao Rui.
"I just wandered around nearby."
"Nearby wandering required a taxi to return?"
"I wandered pretty far and took a taxi back."
"And who was taking pictures of you?"
"A friend," she replied softly, lifting her eyes again to glance at him. "Can you not ask about this?"
"Didn’t you say you’d start trusting me?" Pei Liyan’s expression was inscrutable.
Qiao Rui’s heart skipped an anxious beat.
Suddenly, the man grabbed her waist firmly, leaned down, and bit her neck, leaving a deep impression of his teeth before lightly sucking on the same spot, planting a vivid mark like a strawberry.
"Ah!" Qiao Rui audibly gasped. "What are you doing?"
"Don’t move!" He hoisted Qiao Rui onto the dining table, picked up the phone, and called to make arrangements right in front of her. "Fang Mo, deploy all personnel. Investigate Liu Garden thoroughly."
Qiao Rui froze.
Pei Liyan continued, "Capture Qi Yun. I want to interrogate her personally."
