Chapter 298: Chapter 298: Your Body is More Honest Than You Are

Mr. Pei’s brow furrowed deeply, the woman’s hand resting on his thigh felt as hot as a branding iron.

It could easily make someone’s skin sear.

Blood surged in one direction.

His body tensed up in an instant.

For a moment, he felt a bit dizzy at the forehead, even unable to distinguish whether this sensation was brought by Ruirui or Qiao Rui.

At times, he even felt they were the same person.

If it weren’t for their slightly different appearances, he would certainly have thought they were the same.

Mr. Pei turned his head to glance at the woman in the passenger seat beside him, her hand was fair and slender. He paused, his gaze fixed on her hand.

The next second, he hit the brakes urgently, and the car slid a long distance before stopping, pulling over to the side of the road.

Qiao Rui didn’t know what had happened. She just felt that this man was somewhat crazy, perhaps overwhelmed by the stimulation.

After all, he was just an ordinary man.

Qiao Rui felt somewhat disappointed.

She wanted to withdraw her hand, but Mr. Pei grabbed it firmly.

The man’s large hand tightly enveloped her small one; he took a deep breath, his gaze scrutinizing the small hand enveloped in his own.

This hand was strikingly similar to Qiao Rui’s, even the nails were the same, clear and healthy without any nail polish.

The fingertips were plump, and the small hand itself was very pretty, comparable to a hand model’s.

It looked slender and delicate but felt soft and boneless to the touch.

Such a hand, such a tactile sensation, was all too similar to Qiao Rui’s.

He stopped the car, carefully examining her hand.

Qiao Rui’s heart thumped, unable to suppress a surge of alarm. Had he discovered it?

She shifted her eyes, immediately emitting a soft, sultry moan, purposely making a more enticing sound.

"What are you doing? You’re not trying to take advantage of me right here on this busy road, are you?"

Mr. Pei ignored her words, simply saying in a deep voice, "Don’t move."

His attention was still entirely focused on Qiao Rui’s hand.

"You expect me to stay still just because you said so?" Qiao Rui huffed lightly, the other hand reaching out and smacking Mr. Pei’s thigh. "Mr. Pei, I thought you were some honorable gentleman, but you’re just a disgusting man."

Today, she wanted to expose his hypocritical facade.

Thus, her actions were bold.

Without hesitation, she reached for the man’s belt.

Mr. Pei caught her hand in a swift move, stopping her bold gesture.

He said, "You misunderstand, even if I feel something, I wouldn’t do anything more."

"Oh?" Qiao Rui’s tone was disbelieving. "You think I would believe that just because you say so?"

"Suit yourself!" Mr. Pei said in a deep voice.

Qiao Rui gingerly touched him, saying, "Mr. Pei, your body is much more honest than you."

"I admit that I have feelings for you, and they are very intense," Mr. Pei said, his gaze moving to her eyes. "But, human beings have reason."

Qiao Rui was taken aback, frowning slightly. "You say it so nobly."

"Miss Rui, you must have been thinking about Mr. Pei quite a lot, haven’t you?" Mr. Pei chuckled lightly, his eyes sharp. "So eager to lay your hands on Mr. Pei right here on the street."

Qiao Rui huffed lightly, leaning closer to his face.

She said, "Yeah, I was having a great time in Xinyang, and then you suddenly ditched me. It was so embarrassing, so I wanted to see if I hold any significance to you at all."

"How do I feel like your heart isn’t really in it?" Mr. Pei read a kind of anger in her eyes, an intense anger that she was fiercely suppressing.

She was really angry, not just playing around.

It seemed like she hated him, full of disdain, clearly not intending to seduce him, yet she was forcefully making moves, which was very contradictory.

Qiao Rui’s heart tightened again.

"So where do you think my heart really is?"

"You are very angry with me!" Mr. Pei said. "Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me?"

"Ha!" Qiao Rui burst out laughing. "Me falling for you, would that be so strange?"

"No." Mr. Pei shook his head. "It’s just that the frivolous actions you just displayed don’t seem like something you would do, it’s like you’re in a rush to prove something."

Qiao Rui’s eyes shifted, avoiding his gaze.

"You’re feeling guilty!" Mr. Pei was sharply perceptive, observing people with acute insight. A single look from Qiao Rui conveyed to him a multitude of emotions.

He was certain. "You want to prove whether I have feelings for you, and my having feelings for you makes you so angry. You probably want me to rush into a relationship with you so you can label me as a scoundrel."

Qiao Rui was startled; the man had actually figured it all out.

Her contradictory thoughts had been discovered by him.

In a flash, she opened her mouth, suddenly at a loss for what to say.

Mr. Pei continued, "I called you here today to ask if you could back off from the Song family?"

Qiao Rui categorically denied, "I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m not targeting them."

"You might not admit it, but I already have some evidence," Mr. Pei said gravely. "Following the clue from Liu Garden, if we keep investigating, we will find some traces."

Qiao Rui’s heart thumped.

He was right; if the investigation continued, something would eventually be found, after all, no one can cover their tracks completely in the snow.

She chuckled, pulling back her hand and then sitting in the passenger seat. She flicked her skirt as if to dust it off.

"I thought you called me because you missed me. Turns out that’s not the case. I guess I misinterpreted your intentions," Qiao Rui smiled. "It’s a pity, I can’t stop thinking about you, wanting to rekindle something with you at any moment."

"I’m sorry," Mr. Pei spoke blandly. "I promised Qiao Rui that I wouldn’t touch any other woman."

Hearing her own name brought a mix of feelings inside her.

She regarded Mr. Pei skeptically. "Mr. Pei, the way you talk makes it sound like you’ve fallen for your wife."

Mr. Pei smiled faintly, saying, "Responsibility, the responsibility of marriage."

"So it’s not because you fell for her," she sighed, a bit regretfully.

Mr. Pei’s gaze drifted forward, somewhat wistful. "The matter with the Song family, you can deny it, but please, back off."

Qiao Rui frowned. "I’ve already told you it has nothing to do with me, why do you insist on pinning it on me?"

"—Single-mindedly could end up hurting your friend Song Muyu," Mr. Pei said gravely. "Song Xun hasn’t fully gained independent control of the Song family, so he can’t provide the stability his woman desires."

"Ha!" Qiao Rui scoffed coldly. "The stability a woman wants is nothing more than a man’s sincerity."

Mr. Pei chuckled lightly, stating, "Sometimes, sincerity is worthless."
