Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Underestimating Her

Mr. Pei angrily snapped, "Qiao Rui!"

"I can hear you." Qiao Rui rubbed her ears. "Lower your voice, don’t be so irritable, go check your endocrine."

Mr. Pei took a deep breath, suppressing his anger.

This woman dared to say he had hormonal imbalances!

Damn it.

Qiao Rui glanced up, her calm gaze meeting his angry one, a faint hint of provocation in her steady eyes.

He didn’t think that being louder would intimidate her, did he?

To think that would be underestimating her too much.

"Out with it, what exactly is going on?" Mr. Pei coldly asked, each word icy.

"Haven’t I already explained?" Qiao Rui didn’t want to waste words.

"Hurry up!" Mr. Pei urged.

Fine, just tell Mr. Pei the truth; anyway, it can’t be hidden from a smart man.

"My grandfather asked my second cousin to come, Mr. Pei. Elder Qiao shoved his beautiful granddaughter into your arms. What’s there for you to be furious about?"

So the Qiao Family had no scruples.

Especially this woman, acting as if Mr. Pei had taken advantage of her.

This left Mr. Pei speechless.

"With such beauty before you, Mr. Pei, just enjoy yourself. To each their own, what is there to be angry about?" Qiao Rui asked back.

"So, you think I’m a frivolous man?" Mr. Pei asked in a deep voice.

"Do you think you’re not?" Qiao Rui flashed an expression that clearly read ’you are indeed a frivolous man’.

Mr. Pei frowned at her, and in their gaze, he coldly laughed, "Of course I’m not. This is blasphemy and an insult to my character."

Hearing him say this, Qiao Rui remembered what he had done to her on the top floor of the Senhao Hotel next to the TV tower. Now, here he was, retorting with anger, making him seem so hypocritical to her.

Her gaze turned colder. "Blasphemy? Insult to character?"

"Is it not?" Mr. Pei shot back.

"You say it is, then it is," Qiao Rui huffed, "For a man like you who treats marriage as a child’s play, can you convince yourself that you’re not frivolous?"

Mr. Pei narrowed his eyes, interrogating in a cold voice, "So you purposefully brought your sister here to push her onto me?"

Qiao Rui shook her head. "Not at all, am I strong enough to push her away? They cling like plaster."

Mr. Pei sternly said, "In the future, in my place, don’t bring these kinds of people."

Qiao Rui was taken aback, then asked back, "You mean, as long as it’s not these kinds of people, I can bring friends over?"

Mr. Pei scoffed. "You just arrived in town, do you even have friends?"

Qiao Rui paused, then pouted, "Don’t look down on people. Even Qin Gui had three friends."

Mr. Pei snorted, "Not allowing you to bring friends over is to protect you; people like you wouldn’t even realize if you were sold."

Qiao Rui looked up at the man with a stern face.

She pondered. Could it be, from his tone, that he’s actually concerned about her well-being? Was he that kind-hearted?

Qiao Rui didn’t believe it for a second and replied coolly, "Well, thank you then."

"What? You’re unhappy about your sister being sent away?"

"Not really, it’s just that I suddenly remembered you sent her away, and I don’t know how to explain it," Qiao Rui said.

"Am I supposed to keep her here to take advantage of me?"

"Isn’t it men who take advantage of women?"

"I’ll say it again, I’m not that kind of frivolous man," Mr. Pei stated firmly.

"I didn’t notice you being very serious," Qiao Rui thought of his frivolous behavior at the KTV last night, and now he was acting all righteous, a hypocrite indeed.

Mr. Pei swept a glance at Qiao Rui. "What did you say?"

"Nothing," Qiao Rui replied lightly. "With my sister gone, I’m probably about to face my grandfather’s anger."

As she finished speaking, she turned to leave.

Mr. Pei’s brows furrowed as he watched her turn to leave, pensive. "Is that it? You’re just going to walk away?"

Qiao Rui stopped, turned around, and looked at Mr. Pei. "I’m not just walking away, I’m just going back to my room."

"Your sister dirtied my room. Shouldn’t you do something about it?"

"Ah? You don’t happen to have OCD, do you?" Qiao Rui was taken aback.

Mr. Pei said, "Mrs. Feng and Uncle Feng have both gone to send off your sister. Now you come help me clean the bathroom."

"Why should I help you?" Qiao Rui challenged. "Right, you said before not to casually enter your room."

"I’m allowing you to enter now," he said.

"Do I have to enter just because you say so?" Qiao Rui didn’t want to go.

Mr. Pei’s gaze grew darker, his handsome face unreadable, seemingly devoid of anger, but his frosty eyes fixed on Qiao Rui.

In that incisive and chilling look, Qiao Rui detected the emotion lurking in the depths of Mr. Pei’s eyes, like the serene surface of the deep sea at night, but containing tumultuous undercurrents capable of overturning everything.

She raised an eyebrow and said, "You should think carefully; I’ll help you clean, but I’m not as pretty as my sister."

Mr. Pei furrowed his brows, replying, "Do you really think so lowly of me?"

"What else?" Qiao Rui didn’t understand. What did Mr. Pei mean by that?

Men are always superficial, and now he wanted to pretend to be profound?

Mr. Pei’s eyes narrowed, his sharp gaze as though it could kill Qiao Rui in an instant.

Mr. Pei had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, prideful and privileged; never had he been looked down upon like this by any woman.

And this bumpkin had the nerve to ridicule him.

"Go back to your room!" Mr. Pei commanded gravely.

"Oh!" Qiao Rui turned and left promptly, afraid that if she didn’t move fast enough, Mr. Pei would stop her to clean up.

Mr. Pei picked up the phone and called Fang Mo.

"Find a renovation company, send someone over immediately to redo my bathroom."

Qiao Rui just happened to be at the door when she overheard this and was taken aback.

Was he really that extreme?

As it turned out, Mr. Pei was a man of his word, and that evening he had the renovation company’s people come over to replace the bathroom fixtures overnight.

Of course, this also included the bedroom items.

All cleared out, to be redone.

And he himself had left.

Mrs. Feng and Uncle Feng brought Qiao Yufei back, seemingly without any particular emotion, apparently aware of Mr. Pei’s orders.

Qiao Rui, in her room, could no longer stand the noise from the renovation and had to go out for a walk.

It wasn’t until Mrs. Feng called her that she went back.

The renovation company redid all the furniture and bathroom hardware within twenty-four hours, following the original style.

However, this incident had started to spread within the Qiao Family!

Elder Qiao didn’t call her that evening but rang first thing the next morning. "Your sister has suffered a great humiliation; didn’t you know to help?"

"Grandfather, I did help," Qiao Rui said. "But my influence is too weak; nothing I said mattered."

"Mr. Pei had renovations done overnight because of your sister?" Elder Qiao asked.

"You know about this too?" Qiao Rui was impressed, not expecting Elder Qiao to be so well-informed.

"So, the news is true then."
