Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Risking Yourself to Lure Her into the Net

"Why has Big Sister started to stutter?" Qiao Rui looked at her with an almost mocking smile. "Got scared, huh?"

Qiao Xiang snapped back to reality, forcing herself to calm down.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that Qiao Rui seemed to know something. That look in her eyes, that oppressive aura left her feeling overwhelmed.

Yet, Qiao Xiang didn’t want to lose, especially to a girl from the countryside. She definitely couldn’t lose.

She was the Qiao Family’s eldest daughter, superior to Qiao Rui. Yes.

Taking a deep breath, Qiao Xiang fixed her smile and snorted softly, "How could I be scared? Speak clearly about what you mean!"

Qiao Rui sensed Qiao Xiang’s indignation and chuckled, "If Big Sister isn’t scared, then all is well. But why ask me to clarify? I don’t even understand what you mean."

At that moment, Pei Liyan glanced at Qiao Rui, his gaze deep, but he did not stop her.

Qiao Rui simply exchanged a look with Pei Liyan before turning her attention back to Qiao Xiang.

Now, Qiao Xiang wasn’t even eating. Her cold gaze fixed on Qiao Rui, she saw the silent communication between her and Pei Liyan, the perfect understanding in their glances, and she panicked completely.

Seeing the love bite on Qiao Rui’s neck and Pei Liyan’s satiated, languid demeanor filled her with a jealous rage.

They were truly together.

And this time, it was for real.

How could Pei Liyan touch her?

Even if Qiao Rui looked pretty now, her peasant-like appearance before was nauseating.

She didn’t understand why Pei Liyan would be interested in Qiao Rui.

Wasn’t her pretending and deceiving just the act of someone who stops at nothing?

Given the depth of Pei Liyan’s thoughts, he had no reason to be interested in such a girl.

Yet, everything was spinning out of control.

"Is that so?" Qiao Xiang’s tone took on a sarcastic edge, the emotion clear in her voice. "I thought the sixth sister liked to imply things with everything she says, this time included."

Hearing the insinuations in Qiao Xiang’s words, Qiao Rui leisurely took a couple of sips of soup before setting down her spoon to reply, "If Big Sister thinks there’s a hidden meaning, then let’s say there is. After all, those kidnappers today were your friends!"

"What do you mean, exactly?" Qiao Xiang’s voice spiked in alarm, her complexion turning ugly.

"My meaning is, Big Sister, you were kidnapped by your friends. That’s a pretty serious case, right? Have you called the police?" Qiao Rui retorted.

Qiao Xiang was stunned, suddenly looking at He Zheng and Pei Liyan in panic.

That’s when Pei Liyan finally spoke, "Heming handled it, He Zheng, you were there too, did we call the police?"

He Zheng wasn’t in a hurry, simply looking at Qiao Xiang. "Xiangxiang, let the police handle it."

"You called them?" Qiao Xiang was almost instantly bewildered.

He Zheng hadn’t mentioned the matter to her at all today. Had they really called the police?

"Let the police have a look, hold a fair trial, and if it’s handed over to the prosecution, it turns into a criminal offence," said Qiao Rui nonchalantly. "Besides, this isn’t just about you, Big Sister; He Lan was also badly affected."

He Lan, whom Qiao Rui had singled out, didn’t disagree for once, nodding like a bobblehead, "Yes, the police can handle it best."

"Really called them?" Qiao Xiang asked again.

"Not yet," replied He Zheng.

Upon hearing that, Qiao Xiang immediately sighed in relief, "We can’t call the police."

"Why can’t we call them?" He Lan asked immediately.

Qiao Xiang’s face changed as she replied, "What I mean is, since we haven’t lost anything and you’re fine, He Lan, and we are all okay, there’s no need to alert the police."

"Who says I’m fine?" He Lan shot back instantly. "My neck hurts so much it feels like I’ve been slashed."

She said so and even reached for her neck, which was in terrible pain.

Seeing where she touched, right where Qiao Rui had struck with her hand, Qiao Rui couldn’t help but twitch the corners of her lips.

He Lan, frowning, continued, "I also feel groggy, no idea what happened, like I had been hurt and didn’t even know it."

He Zheng, seeing his sister like this, furrowed his brow and immediately inquired, "He Lan, what happened to your neck?"

"I don’t know, it just hurts a lot," He Lan lowered her head to show her neck to He Zheng. "Brother, right here, it hurts like hell."

Upon seeing it, He Zheng noticed the fiery red mark on her fair neck, clearly a sign of a chop.

His eyes darkened immediately.

Qiao Xiang just stood there, stunned for a moment, and then apologized, "He Lan, I’m sorry. I know it’s because of me that you were frightened, but we cannot call the police."

"Why can’t we call?" He Lan flared up, her tone sharp.

"I have my own difficulties," Qiao Xiang said with a very serious expression.

He Zheng and Pei Liyan exchanged a glance.

Pei Liyan then spoke up, "Heming took the men away, said he would explain everything tonight, so there should be news by now."

Just as they mentioned Lu Heming, he arrived.

Lu Heming rushed in, looking travel-worn. After nodding in greeting and acknowledging everyone dining, he addressed Pei Liyan, "President Lu, I have thoroughly interrogated those three kidnappers as you commanded."

Pei Liyan nodded, "I trust your work."

Qiao Xiang’s face went pale in an instant.

She looked at Lu Heming.

Lu Heming happened to glance at Qiao Xiang too.

Qiao Xiang instantly sensed trouble.

Pei Liyan said in a low voice, "Heming, share your findings, while everyone is present."

Lu Heming paused, looked at Pei Liyan, then at Qiao Xiang.

Pei Liyan repeated, "Speak!"

"Yes," Lu Heming finally started, "This is it: the three kidnappers unanimously stated that the abduction was orchestrated by Miss Qiao Xiang. They said she risked herself to lure Mrs. Pei into a trap."

Everyone was taken aback and turned their eyes to Qiao Xiang.

"No, they’re slandering me," Qiao Xiang cried out in panic. "I’m a victim too. They’re framing me."

He Zheng’s brows furrowed tight, his expression one of disbelief as he looked at Qiao Xiang.

He felt something was off, and now seeing her response, he began to understand.

He Lan was also a victim. On hearing this, she became irate, "Sister Xiang, you couldn’t really be colluding with them, could you?"

"How could I!" Qiao Xiang shook her head. "I’m the biggest victim here. I have my reasons for suffering."

Pei Liyan remained inexplicably calm.

At this point, Qiao Rui coolly said, "Big Sister, if that’s the case, why can’t we call the police?"

"We can’t call the police," Qiao Xiang insisted, shaking her head. "Absolutely not, that would be the death of me."

"Miss Qiao," Lu Heming spoke, "Honestly, I didn’t believe you conspired with them to harm your own sister either, but your refusal to call the police is truly baffling."
