Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Didn’t Sleep All Night

Qiao Rui instantly understood after hearing that; how could Muyu not be upset?

But she also believed that Muyu would come out of it.

After she hung up the call from Jiang Jinfeng, she saw a message from Song Muyu: I’m fine, just feeling a bit stifled, but it will soon pass. You know, sometimes it takes some effort to break a habit.

Qiao Rui texted her back: I believe in you.

After putting down the phone, she finally could go to sleep.

In the morning, when she opened her eyes, she felt something was off in the room. Suddenly turning her head, she saw a figure standing beside the bed.

Qiao Rui jumped, staring in shock at Pei Liyan, wondering when he had returned and why he was standing beside the bed.

Still in the same suit from the day before, which highlighted his tall and sturdy body, his stern and rigid face showed no emotion, only his gaze heavily fixed on her.

"When did you come back?" After a moment of distraction, Qiao Rui asked, frowning.

"Ten minutes ago!" Pei Liyan said, gazing at Qiao Rui, his handsome face still largely expressionless.

Qiao Rui was shocked; she hadn’t noticed at all ten minutes earlier.

She had slept so deeply that if someone had done something, she might have been done for.

Since when had her guard become so lax, completely non-existent?

"I didn’t make any noise." Seemingly perceiving Qiao Rui’s surprise, Pei Liyan spoke calmly.

But for Qiao Rui, it was still a warning.

She reminded herself not to sleep so heavily in the future.

She turned on the overhead light and took another look at Pei Liyan, then jumped again when she saw his deep-set eyes full of red veins.

"Did you not sleep last night?"

The man said, "There was no place to sleep."

Qiao Rui: "...."

Couldn’t he have just booked another room?

That just sounded like an excuse.

Naturally, Qiao Rui didn’t bother with him.

She got up to wash up.

Pei Liyan watched her but didn’t say anything.

After she left the bed, he lay down.

Originally, he had been tired from not sleeping all night, but now lying on the bed, the thoughts of rolling around with Qiao Rui yesterday afternoon suddenly kept him awake!

Just then, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.

Pei Liyan glanced over, his eyes and expression inscrutable, and no one could guess what he was thinking.

Qiao Rui finished washing up, dried her hair, changed clothes, and when she came out, it was already fifty minutes later.

She intentionally stayed longer inside to avoid awkwardness.

Who knew when she came out, she would see the man lying on the bed, his gaze burning as he watched her walk out of the bathroom?

Qiao Rui’s steps halted.

Why was he lying on the bed?

And, he had been watching her all along.

Qiao Rui slightly frowned, feeling annoyed.

Pei Liyan’s eyes were half-closed, watching her, and when he saw her tie up her long hair – not in a ponytail nor flowing freely, but in a neat bun – she looked quite charming.

It was just annoying when she frowned upon seeing herself.

Did he really upset her that much?

Qiao Rui was ready to leave.

"It’s only half-past six!" Pei Liyan said.

Qiao Rui said, "I know."

"Where are you going?" Pei Liyan’s voice carried a note of authority.

Qiao Rui spoke lightly: "I’m hungry, I want to go down for breakfast."

"I’m hungry too." He got up: "Let’s go together."

Qiao Rui paused, looking at him skeptically.

Pei Liyan said in a deep voice, "You don’t have to look at me like that. I haven’t eaten since yesterday afternoon."

Qiao Rui was startled, wondering if he had not eaten just because of their squabble?

Pei Liyan said, "It’s a good time to go down together now."

Qiao Rui was just about to refuse.

The man spoke again, "It’s just a meal, not a sleepover; you don’t need such a big reaction."

Qiao Rui was instantly speechless.

After they came out together,

Si Ran and Fang Mo had just walked out of their respective rooms and hurriedly greeted them when they saw them.

"President, Madam, good morning!"

Qiao Rui nodded, her expression calm, "Good morning."

Pei Liyan remained silent.

At that moment, Fang Mo was yawning, seemingly very sleepy.

Qiao Rui instantly understood—Pei Liyan hadn’t slept all night, and Fang Mo, his chief assistant, must have also been up all night following his lead.

Si Ran glanced at Fang Mo and asked, "Didn’t sleep all night?"

Fang Mo nodded without a word.

Si Ran realized something and looked back at Pei Liyan.

Seeing that the president was still in yesterday’s clothes, Si Ran was surprised, then looked at Fang Mo again.

Fang Mo imperceptibly nodded.

Si Ran hesitated and then asked Pei Liyan, "President, shall I prepare breakfast for you and Madam?"

"Go about your own business!" Pei Liyan said gravely, "Fang Mo can go rest after breakfast, and at two in the afternoon, we’ll move to the Haitian Building."

"Yes!" Fang Mo nodded.

Pei Liyan and Qiao Rui left together.

Si Ran and Fang Mo looked at each other in the background.

"What’s going on?" asked Si Ran.

Fang Mo shook his head. "Not sure, the president is acting very strangely."

"You go rest, I’ll keep watch," Si Ran said.

Fang Mo nodded, "Then I’ll rest for a bit."

"Hmm!"

Fang Mo went back to his room to sleep, and Si Ran prepared to quietly go downstairs to grab a bite and check on the president’s situation.

She was a bit worried.

Before she could leave, she heard a door open on the other side of the hallway.

She instinctively looked up and saw He Zheng standing at the doorway; seeing her, he remarked with a smile that was not quite a smile, "Secretary Si, have you had breakfast?"

"Not yet, President He, good morning!"

"Good morning, would you like to have breakfast together?" He Zheng raised an eyebrow.

Si Ran paused, thinking of the president and his wife, she needed to go downstairs, doing it alone would be too abrupt, but going with President He should be okay.

She didn’t refuse, nodding her head. "Sure!"

Now it was He Zheng’s turn to be surprised; he raised an eyebrow. "Why is Secretary Si so obliging today?"

Si Ran paused, then lightly smiled. "So, in President He’s eyes, I am usually not obliging?"

He Zheng was taken aback by her retort, then chuckled meaningfully.

"Let me guess why you agreed to have breakfast with me so readily?"

Si Ran was surprised, "Does having a meal need a reason?"

"Of course, you want to use me!" He Zheng said.

Si Ran suddenly felt a bit guilty; she pursed her lips, turning her gaze away.

He Zheng said, "Let’s go, I’m more than willing to be used by you."

Si Ran frowned, wondering if He Zheng knew her intentions—she was actually worried about the president and his wife and didn’t want to appear too conspicuous.

Could it be He Zheng had been peeking through the door just now?

"President He, you’ve never liked making unprofitable deals."

"So, are you admitting that you’re using me?"

"No!" Si Ran denied. "Isn’t it you who asked me to have breakfast with you? If we talk about using, it should be you using me, right?"

He Zheng watched her, smiling profoundly. "Well, let’s use each other then!"

Si Ran was at a loss for words but then understood. "President He, don’t be too curious; otherwise, it might affect me."

"That would be even better, let your president fire you and you can work as my secretary from now on!"

Si Ran: "...."
